Are people losing sight of what this is all about?

Do you think cannabis has become an overwhelmingly fetishised pile of bullcrap? People seem to have become completely obsessed with flavour and smell and look. Cookies, candy, berries, skittlez, banana f***ing punch. Who really gives a crap about this stuff? - it's as though people have forgotten about the actual high. For me, this is where the nuance is between strains. But just look at fastbuds new strains, they're so clearly designed to attract people based on their smell and taste - all the smoke descriptions are basically the same - burst of energy followed by relaxed body, very basic, boring and disappointing combinations of former strains - it's as though they've completely run out of ideas. I'm not blaming fastbuds - they're just catering to what their market want - I'm just disappointed that people no longer seem to care about the high. What do you think? Is the taste/smell as important as the high? Or is contemporary hyper capitalism ruining the market by elevating something that doesnt really matter? And which weed do you think has the most interesting high?

I dabbed hash and hash oil with hot knife back in the 70s, but not since,
with all these new pipes and stuff. Hell, it'd probly kill me now. Also, I
like to do a hit or 5, and get HIGH, and not have to keep going, like
some kinda ... (i don't mean to be insulting, but)... fiend or something. :bigjoint:
And, I like/love smoking it, always have, but nowadays, I would love to
get a good trial of sublingual tinctures, to find out how effective that is.
I don't like the smell wafting over the entire 'hood. I only smoke outside
cuz I don't want the house smelling like an opium den or something.

I've been smoking since '74 and I've smoked a shit ton of different strains , indoor and outdoor . I get a pretty good selection of the "strain of the month" these days .

What I see lately is all these new hybrids seem to have a "ceiling" . I get a good high but hit a spot where it stops . Rarely am I seeing anything that makes me say "oh shit" and put down the joint before it's even half burned . I don't see much creeper weed either .

My old partner still kicks around outdoor a bit and has a few strains of his own that go back years . They don't taste fruity or cakey , more of an earthy hash , maybe with a touch of pine or mint . They're not very frosty but have a strong nose . When you feel good and high you'd better put that doobie down . Wait 10-15 minutes and then decide . Drive after smoking it and you'll only remember leaving and arriving at your destination , but you won't remember how you got there .

In the last several years I can only remember a couple different strains that were exceptional and capable of acute intoxication . Whappa , and Headbanger come to mind .

Maybe I'm just an old fuck dreaming of the past... :cuss:

THC gets you high. Most strains are very high in THC. The way it makes you feel is largely based on your mood / expectations going in. The placebo effect is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. That includes the entourage effect as well. There is no difference between Indica or sativa. There was never a true RKS.

I know what you mean. Although fastbuds are all auto flower. Try different breeders. ACE seeds have a wonderful selection of strains, check them out!

Flavour lasts 5-10 mins but the high lasts 2-3 hours. So high over flavour.

Although I am guilty of growing plants just for flavour now and again…

I’m a believer in the entourage effect. Meaning terpenes are as important as THC level. I’ve had bud that tested 27% here and 0.65% terps. Didn’t get as high as I did from some that tested 18% and 2.65 terps. It might have been luck but I do believe most of us have a terpene profile we like the most. Probably for intrinsic reasons. I’m a fan of terpinoline, pinene and limene. I have nothing to back this up but I’m not alone.

Make some butter and supplement any recipe with some good decarb bud. If you have the patience and can plan ahead a few hours- you can get really high- really really
Best thing is you can learn to control the strength, somewhat, to your liking. I say somewhat because the weed differs in strength unless you’re using the exact same thing every time.
I have lots of experience so I make them pretty strong-

"Think about how dumb the average person is, and remember half of them are dumber than that." - Carlin

But seriously, who cares what other people do? There's plenty of cultivators who cater to what you care about, let the generic fruity crowd have their fun. I understand the observation, I've had it myself, but when you let it bother you, that's a you problem, not the culture.

It's just like everything it evolves and the older generation think the younger one is going too far. I agree though, anyone who tells me that they avoid certain terpenes and only smoke this or that strain I just laugh to myself

I tried tinctures and they do get you high but I found it a bit headache inducing. Maybe it's the alcohol in them. Cannabutter is a better high in my opinion

I think the commercialization of weed has generated all kinds of rhetorical twists that try to make the product as appealing as possible. It’s pretty entertaining to read the descriptions of flavor and buzz, defintiely borrowing from the highfalutin language of bourbon, wine, and cigar sellers.

Otherwise, I often reflect that we’re really in a golden age of cannabis. I’m also a long term appreciator, 40 years or so, and my recollection is simply grabbing what was available most of the time. Sometimes the weed was great, other times it was seedy, weakish import from south of the boarder. The selection today is awesome, and the freedom to be and hang with hobby growers has meant pretty awesome bud when desired - definitely not a constant in the past, at least in my world. All the choices does mean one has the luxury (and responsibility) to be discriminating.

I don’t believe in a placebo affect with pot at all. I know when weed makes me really high and when it doesn’t. Always disappointed with the later. Of course, taking a break for a couple days makes pot more potent, at least temporarily. But, naw, Im pretty habituated to the daily…I’m sure I’m not alone.

IMO taste is king.

I would sooner smoke a joint that taste great but isn't overly potent than a joint that is very potent but taste mediocre.

Don't matter how powerful your pot is, you will eventually get immune to it after smoking it continuously
You should grow out some blueberry muffins then. Amazing flavor, low high
