Applying Silver Nitrate & Sodium Thiosulfate Mixture for Fem Pollen

I broke down and bought reagents to make STS.

Last year I was going to make a seed crop but my colloidal generator couldn't keep up with the demand for my outdoor plant and never went higher than 20ppm . Big plants require lots of spraying.

I had great success with 50ppm CS off of Amazon. Small indoor plant, sprayed it daily after the 12/12 flip and it rocked balls.

What I don't want to have to do is spray daily. I'd rather spray it, put it into 12/12, and MAYBE spray it once more a week later for good measure.

I'm not concerned about toxicity as this is just for seeds and pollen.

The goal is just to get enough silver at the ethylene receptors, right?

Less spraying, same result.

Be careful where you mix and use the solution. It will stain things purple. Especially white counter tops. I found out the hard way.

I like this formula over the collodial silver method because you don't have to spray everyday. One application and then 12/12.
Spray ONCE only and then that's it ? No subsequent spraying at all ?

Using your method about how long after you've put the sprayed plant into 12/12 do you get viable Male flowers / pollen ?

Actually I spray more than once. I'll spray a couple days before I put into flower and then when I put in to flower and another one week later for good measure. I'd change that post I made but it's too late to go back and edit it. You'll start seeing balls forming at around the same time you would normally be seeing female pistils.

Thanks for the clarification. When I used colloidal silver, I sprayed daily a couple days before 12/12 and throughout until male flowers became evident. It'll be nice to only have to spray on the schedule you mentioned.

I'm planning on using a well cleaned brown plastic hydrogen peroxide bottle to hold the silver thiosulfate solution, any reason I should be concerned about the plastic ? A standard plastic bottle sprayer screws right into the hydrogen peroxide bottle.

It's nearing the time to give this an attempt.
Fully intended on following the methods in this post, then I stumbled into this.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/STS-Silver-Thiosulfate-Plant-Sex-Reversal-Spray-for-Making-Feminized-Seeds/401983081219?hash=item5d980f0b03:g:gwUgwUAAOSwabBd5poy

I figured for a first timer, I'll take a $30 chance. I know the ingredients for a lifetime of batches, cost about the same as this "kit", but I liked the simplicity offered here.
Time will tell!
Damn. I'm going to start mixing sodium thiosulfate and silver nitrate with a little water and put them in small bottles and sell them with a spray bottle. I can sell them for half what that seller on ebay sells thiers for and still make a ton of money. I can easily turn $50 worth of chemicals into thousands.

I immediately thought, "wtf am I doing here, this is ludicrous." I resisted the premixed versions months ago, knowing the viability would be questionable. I got suckered in by the magic of two bottles!!!

Talking about magic bottles. I paid less than $35 for these two bottles. It's really simple to mix. All you have to do is weigh it out and mix with water. I've barely made a dent in them and have already reversed half a dozen plants. I can probably mix up enough solution of each one to make 100 of those kits that are enough for 1 - 2 plants. You'll probably be kicking yourself after reversing a plant and thinking you should have just bought the chemicals. :bigjoint:

I bought 5 foot of silver jeweler wire for 10 bucks on Amazon. I made the generator with an old cell charger.

They key to good cs spray is smaller silver particles. The lower the voltage the smaller the silver particle. An air stone helps.
What u do with air stone put in solution while making it ? Or after I'm interested in knowing

I figure if it produces even a few seeds of the strains I like it was worth it.
I working on making seeds of a legendary WW cut and even crossing with a few of my other top strains.
I don't mind buying seeds now and again, but I'm tired of buying strains I'm disappointed in.
Plus I'd like to share these genetics if I get some gems.

I recently went with Schwaggy P's STS at a 1:1 dilution. Crossing my fingers it works, on my 3ed attempt. For those of you that have done the STS thing successfully, how the hell did you do it? Like what's the process in detail. Obviously some of us are missing something.

i haven't used it yet, but this is what the web site says:

"Some breeders often don't have the time to spray their plants 3 to 4 times a day for several weeks using Colloidal Silver or they are growing in a tent and it is not easy to move plants around all the time. Instead, spray STS every five days for a month and that is it. It is the easiest and most effective method to feminize a plant. Our spray bottles are 8 fluid ounces in size, which is enough for many plants."

If you're successful reversing and making your own feminized seeds and decide to continue in the future I strongly suggest you buy a small amount of silver nitrate and sodium thiosulfate. For about the same price as that 4 oz bottle you can buy the chemicals to make well over a hundred of those bottles. The two chemicals are available online.

Schwaggy P has an excellent detailed post written up complete with illustrations. Every step is written out better than I could do it so I'll just link that post.

That's my issue I guess. I've seen spray right before flip to spray every 5 days for an entire month before flip. Which is fine, different strains do different things, but it's still a lot of guesswork. Solution strength, where to spray, how to spray, how many times to spray, it should look like this or look like that. And i'm still over here like WTF, why isn't this working. It's maddening. lol

One thing you want to do is make sure you spray the tops where the new growth is not just the leaves. Spray it until it's running off.

I usually spray before flip, at flip, and then a week after flip. Works every time.
