There is a shit ton to respond to so this it to/for everyone...

Thank you to all who are subbed and ready to go. As you know, this is going to be exciting and I will do my best to max each sides' potential.

The height marks are a good idea. Hieght isn't the main goal exactly, but would be nice to see
I'm not a ROLS guys...maybe one day but not for now.

If you are going to spend about 2K on a led...then this is the one without a doubt. No other led is even close to the amount of light...not even close.

The hps bulb is brand new, I used it for 4-ish for some test...then it has been in the room for the last 4 day@12/12.

As for differences in nutrient...they will be what ever each side needs. If one side needs more/less/different feed then it will get that. I don't think that keeping them identical would actually be a good or even legitimate test...if that were the case one side would most likely be not under the best conditions while one is being maximized.
The point is to show that if both sides were grown to their best, with just the light sources being different, then they should be super equal in yield. If one was low on N or something it would suffer greatly just because it wasn't feed correctly...so it could/would be the nutrients that held the side back, no the light...Get it????

I don't think JJ you realize the savings that come to a facility when over a 100 hps are replaced out...for me the cooling saving is good but not massive in the smaller scale garden...but for facility running 100's of hps lights the thermal reduction is of high value and exponential greater than my small scale room.
Non of that matters till the end and no bitching or complaining is going to change things. I will max the potential of both sides and we will see the end results.

I will have the buds tested and I expect, just like the last side by side I was apart of(quest for the best led), the led will have higher chemical/essential compounds.

Who cares about GPW? If theApache is supposed to match/replace 1000 watt hps it needs to yield as much/more than the hps. If the hps yields 1oz more, then the Apaches power savings and higher GPW are obsolete. The side with the higher yield will be the better light, whatever side that may be.
in my opinion if the apache matches the 1000w in dry bud weight, it has destroyed the 1000w hps purely by savings. good day sir

Looking good. Really exited to see this grow. Been biting my nails waiting for the veg to finally get to the correct size. Hope this can really show that LED is for real.

Finally get to see what I've wanted to know for quite awhile now. I've been looking at apache tech for months trying to justify to myself whether or not to switch to these LEDs. I'm in AZ and the heat here in the summer makes things very expensive. I am subbed and looking forward to this. I've watched all of your you tube videos and liked the way those blackberry came out by the way. I wish you luck.

Looks to me like you could drop that 1000 down 10-12" so I doubt you will have a height issue, or do your temps prevent you from dropping it a bit? Having bare bulbs up that high I understand but cooled hoods I run much closer than that.

I thought the point would be to have all aspects to be exactly the same no? Would kind of defeat the purpose of a true side by side like EVERYBODY seems to want...I personally am not necessarily routing for either side just my input...

They are at 30" center and the closest cola is about 25" so it's actually not as high as it looks. The lights will be at a final height of about 24"+/- after the stretch is over. For now the 1000w is about 4" higher than I'ld like, but it's either that or a little too close...A-hooks+ratchets+my hanging bolts =too low...but without the ratchets, just a little too high, like how it is in the video.
But with that said the intensity at the canopies are the same about 800-900µmols. And as they finish their stretch they should end up right at about 20-24" from the lamps. It's currently still plenty intense and lets them work their way up to. As they stretch it will get closer to 1200µmols.
It's just week 1 so they have plenty of stretch and growing time left.

The only true side by side where parameters could be equal would be HPS v HPS, or LED v LED

The heat signature and umol/m*/sec is much greater with hps. The hps heat alone makes the plants sweat more, and therefor require more water/nutes, or else they would wilt

I don't know, but seems to me that the apache is winning so far. :-)
Thanks for the update. I do agree that the hps could be a little lower though, and its true that this may not be a perfect side by side comparison. It's definitely good enough to answer my questions and I am grateful greengenes is taking the time to do this comparison for us when it seems no one else is. Those plants all look happy.

they are definitely a little tighter under led.

Personally, i'd drop that hps a bit to put it around 12" or so off canopy. THis'll prevent some of the stretch and promote tighter nodal spacing.

but either way...nice grow and experiment.

I don't understand some of you...the lights are different and separated from any interaction=side by side.

It's a side by side to see when USING EACH LIGHT if/and what the differences are. Differences are noted...and either treated/attended to if they're bad, or admired if good.

Like I said the hps and led will end up closer...patience people. 12" is not happening I can tell you that...but lower it will get(actually higher they will grow).

Glad you are all entertained. I have some pics to post tonight(nothing you haven't seen in the videos). I have been taking some but just getting the updates done is a hard sometimes. I start normal job work at 4am everyday, then have to wait till 9pm to start working in the garden at nights...which is at least a couple hours every night...sometimes just keeping the co2 up(chiefing)...but it's hard to want to do anything other than grind in there and go to bed. That's why I like veg...I can hang out with the girls all day once I'm off. Time is getting precious, so it's hard to take a minute for pics and vids sometimes. Anyways, I will get them up soon

Oh didnt you know....people like to moan on the LED forum now....about anything....i used to like this place... :)

You are doing a great job and service to people...i hope they appreciate it...i know i do :)

Alot of hid growers imo put their light to close even with venting. I think the closest a 1000w should ever be is 18 -20 inches in flower after stretch, Rotate consistently to avoid bleaching and give optimal light. That's still pretty close.

anyway good job. They are really filling out the space and getting bigger. At the pace they are growing, I foresee some canopy management in the near future. I never have done blue dream. They look like they veg pretty fast..

I tried to rep you too. I have spread it around but it still won't let me. (that sounds dirty lol)

Ditto, he's is doing something most wouldn't do even if they could, and for nothing other than answering a basic question which has been around here for some time. Could there be slight variables, maybe, does it matter that much, no, it's a side by side with the only real/significant variable being the light source. Everything else is little shit that makes no difference on either side of that half-wall...
