Anyone running 315 CMH and 600 HPS in a 48X48?

Will be a bit hot but fine assuming you can keep the temps under control
Was planning on getting a cool tube hps.
Or would air cooled with fan work better?

Already have the CMH
Tent will be in a basement. Just using it to kill the smell.
Temp is 73 down there year round.

Whew thats a lot of light in a 4x4 square. lol I wanna see what you do with that, yield and quality potential are there. You doing a grow journal?

I have done something similar. I had two 600s and two 315s in a 4x8 tent a couple winter's ago. Worked great but was afraid would be too hot for summer as I could barely cool it in the winter. I had the 600s hung one on each end in air cooled hoods. The 315s were in the middle of the tent spread out but both in the middle. It was def one of my highest yields out of the 4x8 tent. Can't remember exact numbers but prob a lil over 3 as I usually averaged about 3 lbs from that tent.

Why not try 2x315 cmh? With batwing reflectors you have near perfect 4x4 spread and only use the power of one 600hps aprox.
With CMH your plants will have an easier time standing higher temps as the % of infrared is much lower. We did ok in upt 30C (about 90F??).

Want to mix up the light type to get different spectrum coverage.
Not worried about temps.
Located in a basement.
73F year round with plenty of useable fresh air for circulation.

Plus,
HPS gets you more bang for your buck dollar/wattage wise.

Going to try to.
This is my first grow.
Got a little heavy handed LSTing and ended up with 3 clones....

So will either journal the end of this one or start of clones once I get the HPS

Its debatable if hos truly is more bang for your buck at this point imo. I'm a big fan of hps, but I recently added cmh. This is my 3rd run under my 315 and I think it outyeilded the same strain vs my 600 this run. Still waiting on the final weight from the 600 but the 315 looked to produce more. A quality 600 hps setup is gonna be 200-300, and a 315 cmh is 300.

Why not just get a closer match up and run a 400w hps, with this would give you more balanced lighting without one light over powering the other.

With the 600 + 315 combined I think you'll be at least 100 watts over powered for that space, but it's your call, me personally I wouldn't use more than 7-800watts for that space ideally, but with the 915 watts you'd be using 57watts per square foot so it's kind of up in the air as to how much energy you want to release into a 4x4.

I've ran up to 1600 watts in a 4x4 lol a 1kw hps and 600 true watt burple years ago. It did amazing. I had more equipment than space at the time haha

@growingforfun

How many watts and/or lumens did you discover to be the ideal range to use within your 4 X 4?

If you could re-live those days what would you different? Why did you change your setup if the results were amazing?

How well would it work?

Net is 48x48x68

I'd say screw the tent unless you want it for veg space in the same area you're flowering in.

I grow in a basement room that's 7x9ft and the 12 plants I have flowering now take up about 4x5' of that space. Gives me room to shuffle the plants around when watering etc. Smooth cement floor so they slide around like curling stones. I have them under a 940W Hortilux conversion bulb riding on a Light Rail 4.0 to get great coverage.

Yeah,
I could definiley go for my basement to look something like that.

Now that I think about it I'm leaning towards just getting another 315W CMH. Keep it simple and all.

Think that will have enough kick to get a healthy yield?
Just really dont want to spend the time and effort to get great buds, but only a z or 2 per plant...

The girls seem to really be liking the CMH after 1 week...

CMH lights are great. Veg or flower with those. A buddy sent me a 400W Philips CMH last year and I wish I had a couple more. They don't make them any more but GE makes one very similar. Runs off my old magnetic 400W HPS ballasts.

I grew mostly DWC for years since 2001 but the last couple years been using AN nutes in ProMix HP with lackluster results. 2 - 3oz per plant was a good yield where I could pull 8oz off a properly ScroGed DWC plant.

A couple months ago I won some Mega Crop nutes in a contest put on by @AquaTerra for Canadian growers and so far I'm impressed. I'm feeding at fairly high levels with each watering and no sign of nute burn yet like I usually get with the AN but my humidity is higher than usual this time of year and now I'm more worried about but rot or powdery mildew setting in. August should be drier and they will be done near the end of Aug. Seriously considering investing in a good portable A/C unit or a small mini split. The mini split would be the better option to control RH and set up the room as a sealed grow so I can use CO2 more effectively.

I'm going ahead with a long planned expansion to the grow space downstairs by building on to the room and giving me another 8.5x4' area for flowering using that light rail with the 1000W to light the whole space. Would like to get 2 - 600W back to back for that job but $$ is always an issue.

I have a medical exemption for 12g/day and may finally get around to getting my permit to grow from Hellth Canaduh so I'd be legal for 49 plants. With the 24 rooted clones and one veg plant upstairs and the 12 flowering I'm getting close to that now and I have plans for more as I'm getting into breeding my own strains of hi-CBD crosses and making fem seeds.

Got to keep it interesting. :)

I think youre right. Separate hanging heights just make it more complicated. 2 cmh315 damn near maxes the space. We found that 400w (or 3 for 2 ratio) of cmh out/same yields HPS as long as you use a flowering spectrum.

I run x2 CMH 315w's and 1 1kw HPS in a 6.5x6.5x6.5ft tent for flower. It works wonderfully. I put the HPS in between each 315W CMH light, and it mixes the deep orange red and blue/green spectrum perfectly. OldMedUser, what kind of light is your 940w? Regular HID, or is it more of a CMH? Thanks in advance buddy.

The 940W is just a Super HPS Hortilux conversion bulb that gives HPS light off of a 1000W MH magnetic ballast. That's all I had when I bought the bulb but now I have a magnetic MH/HPS ballast and it's running off that. Huge bulb that barely fits in the reflector and retails now for close to $300. I'll be picking up a regular Hortilux SHPS bulb eventually for maybe $100. It has really high intensity and a good spectrum but not worth $300 to me to replace it. I got it for $170 about 3 years ago and just use it during the stretch. Swapped it out for one of the decent and much cheaper Light EnerG SHPS bulbs just yesterday and may go to the Sunmaster conversion bulb the last couple weeks as it's stronger in reds but only about 60% as intense as the 940 measured on my cheap light meter at 3ft.

I run a single 1000 HPS in a 4’X4’ tent. It’s powered just right. No issues. In an air cooled hood.
