Any Pain Management Advice?

I'm not quite finished with this book yet, and I don't practice every exercise to the letter, but it is still a great lesson on truly managing pain with one's mind. From breathing to meditation to "mindfully" (full awareness, no judgement) focusing on the pain, to stress reduction... this is an excellent book.

The Mindfulness Solution to Pain: Step-by-Step Techniques for Chronic Pain Managment (Kindle edition)
The Mindfulness Solution to Pain: Step-by-Step Techniques for Chronic Pain Managment (paperback edition)

I've read countless books on pain management, and to date this is the only one I'd recommend with a full 5 star rating. Even having practiced meditation off and on for about 20 years, reading this book helped me bring down my pain level from a 9 or 10 down to a 5 or 6 in seconds to moments, simply changing how I view and think about it, and focusing on it instead of trying to make it go away.

What I loved about this book right off the bat was the author's assertion very early on that this pain management method is meant to be used in conjunction with your already established regimen, rather telling you that this method is the only path to pain relief and you should therefore dump any and all other methods of pain control. This book does not give false claims or hopes; only tried and true techniques used for centuries. (The practice of "mindfulness" comes from Buddhism, but this book is not about Buddhism. It is a "tool" and a "way of life" in Buddhism, but this book is not about spiritual practices.)

Also, read this page... lots of info much like mindfulness: A Path Out of Pain

i do smoke, at least 2 packs a day. i have tried to quit and KEEP making new PLANS to quit! i just never follow through with the plans! LOL! your post gives me new inspiration to quit though! as for the weight: i gained over 100 pounds since the pain started....but as of now i have lost more weight than i had gained! i don't think that losing weight helped my pain but it did make it easier for me to stretch......
I do still smoke 2-4 cigarettes most days (though none on some days!), but for over a year now I've been vaping on my PV (personal vaporizer), A.K.A. electronic cigarette. This is the ONLY thing that has even remotely helped me! I no longer have any smoker's cough or shortness of breath, and cutting down from 2 packs a day has had a noticeable effect on my daily pain levels, as well. I still get all the nicotine I need/want, with almost any flavor on the face of the earth I could possibly think of, and there is no smoke for me (or anyone near me) to inhale. Only water vapor, nicotine, and natural flavors! I'm not willing yet to give up tobacco completely (hence my 2-4 daily allowance, with which I never feel deprived)... I wholeheartedly believe that I can give it up if I want to and be 100% satisfied with my PV, but it's the only "vice" I have left!

Check out www.e-cigarette-forum.com before buying anything if you're interested or curious, though... there are a lot of PVs that are very cheaply/poorly designed, and a lot more that are way too expensive! I use the "Riva 510" all day, every day. You can get a full "starter" kit at anywhere from $35 (http://liberty-flights.com/product.asp?id=55 - after discount code, which is found in their top navigation menu) to $50 (http://www.vaporjunction.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=42&products_id=100&zenid=8e11f15cb5d628f1188dfb32a97c04d3). I've shopped with both of these vendors several times, and have been 100% satisfied with their products and their customer service.

And trust me, I'm sure the weight loss has helped your pain at least a bit. You may not notice it much because as you lost weight daily or weekly, your brain likely adjusted to your new average pain level. But since weight gain generally happens faster than weight loss, I wouldn't be surprised that if you were to gain it back that you'd notice more pain. I know that the heavier I am, the more pain I have; it's more weight for my broken body to carry around!

and to everyone else: thanks for your posts! my favorite strain has been Casey Jones, i haven't found any other strain that helps with nerve pain as well plus it leaves me with a mostly clear head so i can function thru out the day. i tried making an edible by using a peanut butter recipe but i didn't feel it and it hurt my stomach?? i figured that edibles just weren't for me......
I thought edibles weren't for me, too. Then I worked with cooking oils and butters to cook into my foods, but the problem was that cooking is very painful for me. Then I started making capsules, and this was my godsend! Same effect as brownies or cookies, etc., but without the need to cook anything, and no calories! (Which is great when you're in need of another dose every four to six hours!) It's also very easy and discreet to carry a couple capsules in your purse or pocket... try doing that with brownies or cookies!

I simply grind my bud (you can use trim, too) till it's powder fine (I have a "Magic Bullet" and use it for pretty much only this, but a coffee grinder or a blender work just as well), then I spread it evenly and thinly on a baking pan, and put that into my toaster oven at 200 degrees for 25 minutes. (To convert the THCA to THC, and to activate the CBD... that's all the "cooking" it needs. If you skip the oven step, you will have very little to no effect.) Then I put it into capsules, and swallow one every four to six hours! (I take two capsules when I cannot get to sleep... or on the rare occasion that my hubby/friends are drinking [which I don't do] and I feel like getting really high while they get drunk. lol)

With a size 00 capsule, I use 6g of bud for the 24 capsule tray/machine, and that comes to .25g of bud (and/or trim) per capsule. One pill every four to six hours is all I usually need to bring down pain, inflammation, as well as bipolar and BPD symptoms!

I didn't feel like needing to come back later to answer questions as to what can be found where, especially since my ability to spend any length of time on the computer is fairly rare and extremely unpredictable. It was a CYA kinda thing.

Definitely you should be eating your pot. It works much better for pain treatment. I also suffered from chronic back pain before I had back surgery. Now that I am walking all the time and exercising it is waay better. I would also has a steady supply of K2 incense to burn to help take the edge off as well.

i think that edibles work the best for paint management, but if you have a labor intensive job // cannot be zombified all day i'd look into smoking just enough to help with pain then @ night eat some edibles.

Dude fuck the K2, seriously. I value my mind and body way too much to consume cheap chinese chemicals of which the long-term effects are not even known. That shit's for kids that don't know any better.

If you are looking for pain relief in cannabis. try using "white" crosses. white widow, rhino, white russian, great white shark are very high in CBD's and CBN's. these help with pain issues. many times it is the application. while injesting via vaping, or smoking is the fastest delivery of these substances, it is often the weakest. topical oil lotions, or eating in butters and baked goods will be much more effective. as is the high. THC and its metabolites require fatty tissues to activate as that is where they store themselves in ones body.

Sorry to hear about your condition Purple. What strains have you tried so far? Some dispensaries have their medicine tested and are able to tell you percentages on their website.
I been trying to find a "420-friendly" dating site myself. I'm 54 and my girlfriend of 6 yrs. left me when I became unemployed. If you find something let me know.
BTW welcome to RIU.

Hi Plowboy, yes I am once again new to this. I was Born and raised in Hawaii and grew up on the best of the best back in the 70's and early 80's after that I quit do to job restrictions. But I really don't even know which dispensary to try first, as I just received my card today. Maybe? you can recommend a shop that is reputable ? or guide me to someone who is familiar with the shops in Sacramento? in any event I just don't have the strength at this time to drive around and inquire, I'm sure that any shop I visit will tell me anything to get my business. Thats why I am here asking for the name or reference # for a type of hash buds that I can ask fore that is commonly sold through out the Sacramento area, with a flawless reputation were I can just buy it and leave. I feel like shit and really need some sort of reusable referrals. thanks Purplestinger

It's a whole new ball game now. If I were you I'd go to the Ca. patients forum https://www.rollitup.org/california-patients/ and see if someone might have already started a thread about sacramento dispensaries if not start your own. You might even be able to find someone who delivers.

Edit: I'm high LOL this is the california patients section.
