Hey Budski's...
I received me Kush seeds from Nirvana in 9 days which was pretty darn quick (I may have a couple of broken nuts but they made a good shipping effort and I think the seed selector was sleeping) but I'm just not quite ready...I still need help with a couple of minor issues and one major one (arg).

My temps were/are running high with an outtake and an intake fan and another online stoner recommended going to two exhaust fans and using passive intake might help. I did as suggested and I'm still running into the 84/85 degree range at plant height and around 80 or 81 one at the top of the box. Is it just still to hot and would it spell certain cookery for the plants or will they still manage to survive and hopefully thrive??? I mean what the hell I had them thrive outdoors at warmer temps than that. Fact is they seemed to like it. ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS ON DROPPING THE TEMP A FEW MORE DEGREES WOULD BE WELCOMED. If fact I am willing to grovel and genuflect. The one thing I have not yet done is put in a fan so mayone aimed up toward the exhaust will help.
I've started thousands of plants in peat pots. Sad to say they were for the most part tomatoes and stuff like that. sometime I tear the peat off and sometimes I just leave them in the pots and the roots grow right thru it. Has anyone had any problems starting in peat pots??
:leaf:
My only real problem is the temp!!! Don't fret the lights. I am still tweaking them and I know they are a mess. My main concern was raising them as need be but the zip tied chain and hooks will make that easy. Would one more exhaust fan make any different? I am in a boiler room which is warm anyway so maybe I can't win this battle which be oh so sad after all the dough I have spent a little at a time. Ha Ha...

Thanks Masonic... I'm stuck between the old rock and hard place. The problem is that the box is in my boiler room so it's warm to start with. :-(

It's more work than I want to do and makes things less stealthy but I can run a piece of 4 inch flex pipe up an outside vent and punch ANOTHER hole in the box. Hopefully that will work passively with the two current exhaust fans or I will have to shell out $10.00 for another fan for intake.
:dunce:

I may be screwed unless I can get away with under 85 degrees being my max temp. All I need is a 5 degree average drop and I'm off. Who would have thought it would have been so difficult. Just one more piece of good advise...Still have the option of a fan but not many stores stock them in New England in Nov. WTH
:-(

Maybe I jinxed myself by brewing up a trash barrel of fresh seaweed and home made compost tea.

I wouldn't say you JINXED yourself, keep your eyes on the prize here. Another EXHAUST fan, probably not a necessity. Now, the intake on the other hand may be where you're running into the wall. There's nothing wrong with passive intake, that's the method I'm comfortable with. The thing is, you're in a boiler room like you mentioned, so the air that's running through the passive intake is already warm, and like boneheadbob above stated, you're just circulating the same warm air. Try strategically placing your fans, typically one at the top of the box and one at the bottom, or whatever is good for you without compromising your stealth if need be. Typically exhaust should be at the top and intake at the bottom, as hot air rises. Something along the lines of that, just trying to through my hat out there.

I googled around a bit and am amazed at how many differing opinions there are on the optimum temperature for growing weed indoors. They ranged from a low of 68 degrees to a high of 95 degrees with supplemental CO2. More than a couple sites suggested between 75 and 85 but some suggested 85 degrees was just to hot.

I added an intake fan (PC) and gave things time to settle and it looks like I am right on the money at about 77 degrees. Hopefully when I put things on a timer I will get the 15 degree drop I'm hoping for when the lights are off. I may have to run to the cheapo depot for a timer and fire up my nuts. I'm pumped and I haven't even germinated my seeds. I'm going with Master Kush cause at one point it was the general consensus that it was as idiot proof as possible.

I still have a bunch of little questions like pot size and lighting schedule and hopefully I can put the whole mess on a single timer. My soil is of my own making except for a little left over perlite and is loaded with good stuff. It may have some leftover weed seeds as it was a cold compost so I may heat it up on the gas grill just to kill any unwanted problems.

Thanks for the advise bob and snatch. If you can think of anything else I would sure take it into account. :leaf:

For pot size, I'd recommend something along the lines of a gallon. Starting off, solo cups work great but you will have to transplant. As for lighting, I'm a fan of 18-6. Jumping from 24-0 or 20-4 for veg to 12-12 for bloom CAN cause stress on her, but that's opinionated.

Rock On snatch.. I've got some 3.8 quart pots and some tall pots that probably come in around 2 gallons maybe a bit less. I will most likely use the 3.8qt pots. I've grown a lot of plants mostly orchids and sorta find that even a root bound plant will do just fine with adequate nutes and H2O. Root bound plants don't give you much of a grace period when it comes to watering though.:-(

My preference is to not transplant at all. I "may" use jiffy pots but I don't think they are always a good bet. Sometimes the dammed roots don't grow through them as advertised. Have you used them snatch?? I do have some solo cups laying around and have used them for other species/starts and if they are well rooted they transplant pretty well. If they are not when you flip them over the dirt just falls out. (arg)

So your opinionated snatch. I'm gonna go 18/6 as you suggest. Not sure of the reasoning behind 24/7 light. I think I have temps under control enough that I can add even more bulbs/watts to the final set-up. Guess you can't have to much light. Thanks for the ideas Budski. Lets see how this Kush does. Hopefully it won't be long before I'm pinching and shaping. We will see.

Gonna germ tomorow. Lets see if I can get four out of five. I'm sceptical looking at the little buggers. Ha Ha...

The next couple days are the worst hahahaha. Especially after you germ and drop them down. I sat there for like, 2 damn days just staring at the soil waiting for her to pop out hahahahaha. As soon as you've got something to look at, it makes everything worth while.

As for the strategy for 24-0, i'm not 100% sure. I believe I read somewhere that the more light/less darkness you give the plant in the Veg cycle, the longer it can take to Veg but the consistency of highly potent, more resinous buds is more likely. I mean, this is purely what you want to make of it. Everybody on here has different methods, and everybody has success. If you follow the few key rules on growing, and it seems as if you have a mildly-green thumb as it is, you're set.
