I believe they are referring to the Co2 released to the atmosphere during the production of electricity. CFLs are more efficient, requiring less electricity. If you have to produce less electricity, you are reducing the amount of 'greenhouse gases' that you are releasing into the atmosphere.:peace:

it pisses me off that the reporters are the ones who do this the most.

CO = carbon monoxide, noxious gas
CO2 = carbon dioxide, what we breath out as waste gas, what plants breath and use for photosynthesis.

if we're producing more co2, isn't that good

earth science; fourth grade.

no excess CO2 isnt good, its a green house gas, which means the more of it the hotter earth gets, chem honors

you know, it's funny; there's only a fraction of the co2 here that was on earth a million year ago. plant used to get much bigger, more lush... fossils have proven this.

co2 may be a greenhouse gas, but it's a beneficial one. it's a gas that is needed, and is used as a resource. carbon monoxide is the big ticket gas. with forest fires happening naturally, it's not a big deal. with a few billion cars, factories, fireplaces, smokers, etc etc etc, i'm sure things are becoming detrimental.

lol, earth science, again, fourth grade

Kindprincess is correct.

Not only plants get bigger, but insects too...
It is everything else that has thrown our earth's system into an imbalanced state and must be corrected; co2 is not/should not be a harmful gas but is because of the imbalance.
