Thanks for this Nat I was going to try this airbasket when I move into my new place in a few weeks. NSW inspired me to scrog with my 600W just like he did. I think I will have some good results using one of these airbasket ideas. it looks promising. I appreciate the pics.

So I checked it out last night. It all looks pretty straight forward. Thats a course perlite you use right? What % do you mix with the soil?

Ok so when you top a plant you just remove the whole end of the growth, and with fimming, you only remove what the top 50% or is it more, or less. I tried this on my last grow, and I only got two tops, did I cut it to low? Or on a different plant, it didn't even split, that set of leaves just got fucked up, did I cut that one to high?

Some plants dont like to be topped/fimmed at all in any way shape or form but they will usually state that on the site or packet.
I usually aim for about 80-90% of the top removed, this seems to give a better amount of new tops.
I used a soil that already had about 10% perlite in it and then mixed it 7 cups of soil to 3 perlite.
I then also add a packet of water crystals per 12" basket and mix it all well by hand:bigjoint:bongsmilie

Sweet thanks nat! Maybe the strain I had just didn't like it then, and thats why it would only split into 2 stems. Now on the air sponge, you said you just put holes in the tube before you put it threw the sponge right, so it lets the air out.

Yeah i snipped several diamond shaped holes in the part of the tube that is inside the sponge as i figured if one hole ever got blocked the air would still be able to get out of another.
No holes ever got blocked though and it wasnt a problem.
The roots actually grow into the sponge which is also a bonus over an airstone.
Its more likely that you only got 2 tops as you only cut 50% away.
For best fimming results you have to fimm really early in the plants life and do it several times on the new tops as wellbongsmilie

Ok that makes sense about doing all the tops. I'm gonna try to employ all this info into my up coming scrog. I'll get you a link once I get going, and get a journal up. You've been a great help.

Interesting... do you keep the air stone on 24/7?
There is no airstone, just a sponge and no,i cycle the pump only when the lights are on.
The pumps tube has several small triangular holes cut into it on the part that is placed inside the sponge to create a more even spread of air bubbles.

The sponge is much more like a lung than an airstone.
I wouldn't recommend using an airstone, just a cheap stiff sponge cut halfway through the middle to place the pipe inside.
I guarantee that you will love the results of the airbasket.
If you get a larger pump and a splitter you can use one pump for many baskets.

To make one will cost you about 9 quid including the pump, baskets are only about 2 quid for a 12" one, cheaper for smaller ones.
They are called pond baskets online i think.
Let me know if you ever decide to give one a go so i can watch your grow journal,if you make one that is.
Best of luck and thanks for the interest:weed:

Well nat, I'm startin to get things together, going this weekend to get some baskets I found, they are actually like 12x10x15, but they are cheap, and I think they should work well, maybe give me some more root space. I workin on my seeds as well, and I already have my light. I need to get the pumps, sponges and medium still, but hopfully I will be greminated by dec, and up and running. I'm getting stoked, its been about 1.5 years since I was able to get a garden up. :)

Dont forget the water crystals as your medium will dry up much more quickly with all the air in the soil.
Best of luck and dont forget to pm me a grow journal link:weed:

For sure I'll get it to ya, I'm glad to be part of this trial experiment of your system. How long have you been using it?

Its not really a trial as it has already been used and tested by others and myself.
I have used it for a while now.
I guarantee results and i make no money, thats how you know you can trust me:weed:

Lol, I didn't know how long you had used it, or how many others had tryed it. I don't doubt results, I just figured more grows is more evidence!
