AG - Round 2

i have read alot of material promoting 24 hr light on for vegative stage vs the normal 18 hr on, 6 hr off. Any opinions on which one works better? and won't leaving the light on for 24hours stress the plant? pls help

But that's just it, an HPS puts out next to nothing in the UV range. The only thing that comes remotely close to a UV bulb in output is MH, because they have a stronger range of the blue spectrum.

Actually, it would be quite beneficial to have an HPS and UV bulbs in your grow room, which is what I plan on doing down the road.

Hehe, not at all. I'm just saying from what I've seen in my experiment, that trich production is a lot higher when a UV bulb is present. Not saying you have to have one to get plenty of trichs, but why not more?

but seriously, any gain won;t be worth it once you run the numbers...

Why burn more dollars? I mean watts...

I say get a real light and get results like this...

I can see that there is no swaying you from your path, but I am still sticking with the UV bulbs.

The trichs you are showing are sweet, but wouldn't you like to see bigger, swollen heads on those trichs along with a lot more all over the leaves?

Since UV light causes more production of THC in the "stem" of the trichome, this will result in more THC being in the head of the trich, causing them to swell much larger.

The extra gain is very expensive...

and IN MY OPINION not worth it...

I am not saying it doesn't work...

It's like engines and speed... look at F1 or INDY racing...

How expensive has it been to go the last 10 mph faster...

is it worth that many more dollars for how many more mph you get?

Obviously to some people it is...

But I find that my "compromise", gives me above average results without burning extra watts...

It's the same thing with co2..

co2 is like the cherry on the cake...

you don;t use it until everything else is dialed in...

you end up paying for something you should have anyways.. without extra expense...

Now once you have squeezed every gram per watt, the yeah it;s totally worth gettin co2...

I'm just talking about value...

how much more do you pay to have that "extra trich"???

If you were running a 250HPS, 23 watts is almost 10% more power...

10% higher electric bill...

I would go out and buy 4 uv lights, well.. order them..

No no no, I enjoy a good debate. There are no problems here. I can stand it if someone does or does not agree.

All I'm saying is that I feel justified using one UV bulb to increase the quality of my weed. That is all.

Anyway, if I had as much weed as you, I probably wouldn't care about the UV either. Since I've only got a 2x2 area with 3 plants, I have to get the most out of them this run.

My end point here is not trying to convince anyone of anything..

but much rather explore all possibilities and hopefully learn something..

I have no personal experience with it, so I really can't say...

But I am severely concerned with the efficiency of my op...

And believe me.. quality plays a big part in it.. this is medicine...

but it just gets to a point where the extra quality and the extra cost don;t match...

I do not believe that a 10% increase in watts by adding UV will give you 10% better bud...

But I am running numbers here...

cost vs benefit...

add 10% to your bill...

what do you get in return...

better yet,

what would I get in return?

Anyway, if I had as much weed as you, I probably wouldn't care about the UV either. Since I've only got a 2x2 area with 3 plants, I have to get the most out of them this run.

Regardless of size, both our ops are focused on trying to get the best possible smoke...

I just added the thing where I want my good weed to be cheap... or as cheap as possible...

But I am afraid that the difference may not be measurable as accurately as the numbers on the electric bill...

I still think that a 400 is an end all for a personal op.. notihng else needed..

but a 250 will still give you 1 gram per watt if you know what you are doing a little bit... and you will have beautiful cristally and dense nugs...

Hey Fox...do this..put the UV light on the other side of the plant and look at the trichs..that UV light makes em more visible,,same trich production on the other side..i noticed this with mine..Not saying it doesnt work but just try it.

I actually did this a few days ago. I can still see a difference in the amounts from the side I've been using it on to the other. I'm pretty convinced that it works. Of course, if I were growing more than just three plants I probably wouldn't be using it, just too much energy consumption for a big grow, just like Gypsy was explaining.
