Aeroponics ( NL, Blueberries & Big Bud )

Hello Everybody!

This is me First grow, it all started on an un-scheduled half day stop off @ the DAM on our journey to our holiday destination a couple of months ago, the plan was to hit a few coffee shop, one thing lead to another, we left the DAM with some seeds from sensi shop, and lighter wallets.

As you seen on the title, from Sensi;

Planning to adopt the Aeroponic method from start to finish. Hope this will work out okay!

Water & nutes are given to the ladies 24/7 @ ph 5.8

And a 60W Tubular Heater plugged into a thermostat to keep the temp at lights out above 20c (around 68F).

50W AQua Tank heater to keep water temp on the Amazon(Flowering) at
20C; 24/7.

Hmm did i miss any thing?

History:

I place some seed in a moist towel in a baggy around 6 weeks ago.

Once they have broken out of their little seed case, in the Aeroponic Propagator it goes, no medium used.

Choosen the 4 biggest Ladies in term in size and root structure. the 4 Mamas are tranplanted into Aeroponics Mother Bucket 21 Litres with Clay Pebbles for support, the weaker and smaller Ladies are disposed of.

Kept the best 4 as Mamas, 1 NL, 1 BigBud, 2 Bleuberries.



Present:

The 4 Mamas are nice and healthy, Just over 18" in Height, topped them 2 weeks ago ( dont want them to grow too tall too soon, and besides it give me 2 clones in the future rather than just one )

Just taken 4 Clones off each Mama, dipped it in 'Clonex', 16 clones in total, into Aeroponic Propagator it goes, no medium used.

Out of 16 Babies, 9 Have little teeth, 6 have bumps and 1 is just pure lazy

I only took 3 out for pics, dont want to damage and distrub them too much.

Overall the NL babies seems to be ahead, Bleuberries comes second and the Bigbuds comes last.

This is Day 6 since the clones been poped into the Aeroponic Propagator, started with 16, but one didn't make it ( The lazy one - NL - the end was spilt, death by airbubbled), I took a fresh NL cutting last night, so its okay back up to 16 ( 1/16 6 days behind ).

the last 6 days I have not been spraying the leaf directly, only spraying the dome keeping it ,osit once a day. I am going to stop sparying now, and try to let the babies to take water from root level rather than leaf, this will also let more light into the dome.
I cant take the dome off just yet as the MH will fry them in minutes, have to wait till more roots showing.

Just put in a tank therometer in to keep an eye on the res temp, cause this is not a heated Propagator, but the temp seems to be okay, yesterday Max 28C(82.4F) & Min 25.6C(78F) comfortable conditions for the babies. The black really do a good job on pulling a lot the heat off the MH, and it retains the temp really well at night, when the lights were off last night the temp have droped to 23c but the the res is still showing 27C.

on the first few days the main stem of the cutting have bended over, but they all have straighten out now. it is looking healthy and green, looking forward to see more root growth this comming week, then I can remove the dome and it should be faster from then on.

Just a quick update,

They are all doing well, the new clone still have no sign of bumps, it been getting colder, the temp is MAX 24C (75.2F) to MIN 22.8C (73F). some pics below:

It's been 3 days since last update, the little babies are all doing well, the NEW NL cutting (6 days behind) is moving so slowly, but it is showing signs of rooting, little teeth have appeared today.

Gonna wait till the new one rooted a bit more first before removing the lid. some of the clones could do with a couple more days to get those roots long enough to dip into the rez below (finger crossed will be this weekend ).

If all goes well, these babies will be getting 3 weeks (ideally 4 weeks but the death of one......) of Vegiative growth, and hopefully will be around 8"-10" tall (1 inch between each note) and into flowering cycle 12/12 these ladies goes @ 06 Dec, if the ladies still a bit small then might have to delay the 12/12 cycle for another week.
But I do have confidence that growing hydoponically (aeroponically), will make the ladies growth faster; make up for loss time, so fingers crossed let hope will have some decent size ladies on 6 Dec.

Hey man, hows it goin, looks like we are using the same setup and nutrients. Everything looks good, looks like the clones are rooting really well, I would have to say aeroponic cloners work better than anything I think. I just started using H&G's nutrients this time around and I am really liking the results, how about you?

You got a really cool setup there, and your journal is sooo detailed, I am really happy to see someone out there is also using H & G and also using aeroponics from start to finish .

H & G as a company used to and still mainly supplies nutes to wholesale roses/flower and fruit markets growers, they have to be good, if they are not, growers will switch, company invested a lot in their R & D department I was told, and will give the "DUTCH taste"....

Me first hydro/aero grow so I cant really compare H & G with any other nutes, but the ladies seems to love it, they are lush and green and healthy(but that could be the aeroponics working its magictoo) , having a hard time keeping the Mamas under control, as they are growing really fast.

The aeroponic cloner works a treat, I am very impress with it, I see you have build one yourself!!! I was gonna do that but me better half wont have it (safety resons lol.... surely I aint that bad....)

The ladies on this end are sprayed 24/7, they seems to be fine so far, I hope this aint gonna be a problem with rootrots etc...will defo keep an eye on it, but the pumps should be just right to let enough air to the roots.

Wow, 100% indica you got over on your end, need to try to get a hold of that when I next stop off to the dam, for some strange reason I perfer indicas, dont ask why, there is just something about indicas that makes me smile... inside....

back to H & G

Not got a chance to use the Bud XL yet but the rootS, and the MutliEm is doing an amazing job, especially when switching from rootS to MultiEm, the ladies doubled in size and still going....

Will definately pop over to your Journal for a peek..from time to time, feel free to pop back and visit soon.

Ironic how need to keep your ladies cool, while over here need to keep mine warm............

Heh yeah I can't to see how the plants take off now because I just started to veg them, havn't gotten to the multizyme yet but it looks like everything is working great for you. Yeah and I don't think root rot should be a problem if the roots are getting enough oxygen.

I will definitely keep my eye on this journal and say whats up again soon. Nice to meet you and feel free to do the same.

The New ( newer ) NL clone is doing well, roots are comming along just fine, here the pics

I was wondering today if the New NL clone could take the MH with such little roots, ( I was also thinkin last nite while I was smokin (hmm maybe a bad idea) if she doesn't make it, could simplily supper crop the ladies beside the empty space and make up the loss...), so I took off the lid......

For 5 mins ( I stayed with her the hold time) and to my amazment she is fine...... covered it back up for 30 mins, and this time for 30 mins and ahe is still fine, so the lid is now off, this mark the end of the bubbled life for the yung ladies, time for Vegiative growth...

I have done some tidying by cutting off all the lower leafs and new shoots, only leaving the top set, so the little ladies could just concentrate with growth on top. Adjusted positions so that all young ladies get access to lights,.The MH is more over to the Mamas end just now (36"-40" away), let them get used to the light for the rest of today, tomorow I will move the MH directly above the ladies, slowly lowerling lights in time, hopefully I could have the MH 12" above the young ladies by this time next week, to minimize distance between notes.......

For ease of counting for myself, I will Mark tomorrow [Veg Wk 1 Day 1 (Total day 14) 16/11]......and will veg for 3 weeks, then into 12/12 on 6 Dec for 70days (possiblely less, but I like to think it will be ready in 70 days time, any eariler BONUS!!).

There are a few clones looking a bit weak, hopefuly will recover when the lights are off tonite, I change the nutes and water weekly, they jusy have fresh nutes and water yesterday[ House and Garden Van De Zwaan Aqua Flake A+B (EC1.2) & RootStim 1ml per litre) , so they should be fine.

I am very sad just now, as the ladies are not all doing as well as they should, Just hit the first wall. OUCH!!

Let start with the roots, They are all healthy, no problem at all, as can be seen below....even the newer NL roots are develping well pic 2.

The problem lies above the roots.......

The Leafs are dryin up, the most ironic thing is that the healthiest one is the newer NL clone.(Pic 3)no problem at all, looking as she should be, nice and green, no sign of dryim up at all

no burn or dryin or curling up at all.... doing well, new growth can be seen daily.

But the other 15 older one, are not doing so well, half are okay, but the rest are just really bad.

(if you are a bit screamish then I wouldn't read on, as it gets worst from here on)

This one below is not looking too happy....more curling, and the new leaf's tip is all dried up (looked burn) so I have cut them off, hence they now look a bit deformed.....

they all seems to have new growth comming out... but the exisitng leaves cant seem to take the 250WMH......( I have the MH 24" away, by no means it is too close at all )

Maybe I kept them under the dome(doom) for too long.....

What a BEAUTIFUL setup so nice & squeaky clean, I love your journal keep it up.
How many Blueberrys do you have growing what is the min & max temperature & humidity of the Blueberrys?

Hey PSKY just dropping by to see how things are and I can see you have a little bit of a problem. Did you say you keep the dome on during using the MH light, if so that might explain the problems(any water or humidity left on the leaves when using high intensity lighting will fry the leaf, the water magnifies the light). Anything other than flourescents is just to powerful to use with a dome. Also, mind if I ask what week you are in and what your ppm's are at?

long story short, "GrowTech" quote:
"After cloning foliage can start to look bad. Make sure you are feeding light nutrients after they start to root. New growth should look just fine."

Gonna keep a close eye on them...but should be fine, some new growth showing on the bad ones...

Hey iLoveit, welcome, I am glad you enjoyed this journal so far

Cleaning could be a bit of a chore, especially with pets running wild in the house, keeping the enclosure clean is quite a task, my other half kindly donated some tights so I could put it over the passive intake, and it stops the pets hair getting all inside the encloseure , but you 'll be surprise the amount of dust still getting through.

I have 2 Bleuberries Mama, the stronger one is in Vegiative state with the clones in the smaller enclosure, the other Mama have been moved to Flowering encloseure just over a week ago, and I have 8 little bleuberries clones on this grow journal. I keep the vegiative encloseure between, 25-27c max Lights on, and 20C min during lights off, and the humidity is between, 40-50%.

I kept the dome under MH, I just did not have any more space, so I had no choice but to try to do these clones under MH with dome. As I am afarid the MH would fry them!
the dome have a special film on it on both side (in & outside), it is suppose to reduce the intensity of the MH.

What I think have happened is that the clones got too custom to the weak light enviorment within the dome, once the clones rooted then when I lifted off the dome, they freaked out, the exisitng leaf just cannot cope with the MH like before when they were on their mama's, after two weeks of bubbled life under the dome......

I did not spray them at all, as you have explained, water and dew does indeed magifies the light on the the leaf and will fry the leaf even quicker

I did think about getting flourescents but the mama in the same enclosure just aint gonna cut it with the flourescents.

No dont mind at all, embarrasing to say I am using EC instead of PPM, as it is easiler for me to follow the BudXL feeding plans, althrough my EC meter can measure PPM too, will see the PPM next time and let you know.

I am currently using EC1.2 for both Mamas and Clones within the vegiative enclosure, Clones have RootStim in the rez, I have not put anymore Rootstim in the Mamas, as the roots are massive already. the mamas are just about 9 weeks old, and the babies are "Veg Wk 1 Day 4 (Total day 17) as at 19th/Nov/08"

I am doing a little experiment ATM, when scaning back on the journal the newer NL clone is the healthiest out of all existing clones, and she had the least time spent in under the dome. so...
I have decided and taken 2 more NL clone, 2 healthiest clones that could be taken from top off the Mamas.(so they are nice and strong, and had explosure of the MH, since they are on the top)

I have taken these clones just as the lights went out in the vegiative enclosure, and pop them in the properagtor (without the dome) overnight.

I just wanted to find out if I can clone under MH (the MH will be far above the clone more than 36") without the dome;MH losing its intensity at this distance. please see attach on MH light chart below....

anyway....

I checked today, the clones I have taken last night seems to have settled in, and the leaf seems to be fine, it is still a bit droopy, but I am surprised the leaf didnt burn or die.

Gonna keep an eye on it, and see if they would take root under these conditions. If this work then I will not have this problem next time round..



Feeling a bit happier now, kind of understanding what is happening with my babies....finger crossed hope the babies recover soon.
