Not sure exactly how you mean this, but the couple people here who've really set the groundwork I've found to have given me excellent advice. So far everything they've said and taught me has proven to be pretty much spot on. Anytime I've deviated from their advice I have gotten the less than perfect results they told me I would, so in a sense if you listen to what they are saying, you can definitely win with their advice ;)... You gotta inderstand that there are different motivations in this style of growing, the whole point is going as far as possible, with just as much emphasis on that as getting some tangible harvests. Most people just want to get some results for as little fuss/money/time invested as possible, but these threads aren't for that mindset... This is definitely a small niche, but quite interesting to people who share the same type of interests.

Quite true... I think if I ever were to have the perfect setup that I couldn't think of a way to improve, then I would get sad. I love how this type of growing keeps me constantly dreaming of better ways to try. Fortunately for me I still haven't even gotten completely over my heat issues from the sun, so it gives me plenty to think about and that's a big part of the reward for me personally. :) I'm never truly bored in life now, because any quiet moment becomes an opportunity to dream up new designs for this... lol
 
hey aerojunky early on you mentioned you were mixing your own salts this is my goal as well, would you mind posting you veg and bloom recipes and giving a noob some pointers.
 
so i have been debating with felow aroe growers i grow in gh aroe but they say its just a deep water cuture with the laser lines so i took out some of my old chambers and seen that multiponic sytem and to realy debate it i realy cant because i nevor tired the aroe misters with a timer i will run it first then do the fog to see and compare.. but i will be going over all your info hears my pic. of the new aroe mister asemblynew aroe.jpeg
 
that kind of chamber is exactly what you dont want for true hp aeroponics. its way to shallow and when your roots hit the bottom they form a mat that the fine mist isnt able to penetrate.
on the top of the root stucture you have the right amount of mist. and on the bottom your roots are not being hydrated properly and consistently, due to the mist not being able to reach them.

what you want for hp aero is a large deep chamber so that the roots can hang freely and recieve an even misting saturated in dissolved oxygen.
 
good idea im gona have to talk to plastic company and i did.. they sead i need to pay about 20 thousand dollars to make an injection mold??? and they can weld plastic but they want like 400 per chainber.. wow thats way out of my ball park, also i have grown in this for like three years already i love these chanbers the only problem the way we do it the roots sometimes fill only leaving about a half inch of the top holes sometimes flooding them many times i come in and the fucken water is on the floor.. i was thinking a lil bit wider and like you sead mabe deeper.. but im gona try its its only an experiment.. let see what happends
 
Oxanaca is correct and here's why. These roots are < 4 weeks old, much bigger than the plants at this stage. Root chamber is a 33G storage tote. 2 weeks later plants are in a growth spurt, roots are ~ 20" long X 3"+ diameter. These would choke your fence post- not even good for NFT




Once they hit puberty (early flowering) the root diameter will increase dramatically to accommodate the soon to be bud sights.

Last Grow near harvest- same container, same strain. Probably should have reduced down to 2 plants max as the other roots get in the way of the atomized mist from swirling correctly throughout the chamber

Thump You can build a chamber inexpensively. Lowes/HD sells insulated 4 X 8 sheets, one side has reflector material, in various R values (@ ~ $24). They will even cut it for you. Some tape/glue and you're done.

i actually built my chamber with the foil faced styrefoam. its way denser than regular styrefoam. and since its drain to waste and you wont be using it as a resevoir, theres way less stress on the chamber not to mention not having to worry about it leaking 30 gallons.

also where i at foil faced is only $18 for the thickest sheet. and i used nails accompanied with 1 inch plastic washers and duck tape to fasten it together on the outside. and silicone cauke on the inside. i order to fasten the lid to the walls i saw 3 inchs off a roll of shrink wrap and wrap it around the chamber a few times to keep it air tight. i have to use new shrink wrap every time i open it and reseal it but its secure and pretty cheap plus the more it grow this way the less i open it.

ya i know i have done that i own like four aroes lolz but i have to say that if all the enviroment is correct and no stress you can pull out of one light 2.75 lb with the right strain i havent done that with dirt indoors I havent done that with cocoa with rock wool with even flow but only with aroe and i havent tried all types i will only run one light for experiments first the misters only because my boy at the hydro swears buy the multiponic kit so i havent seen it with my own eyes and believe me i know a lot of growers up and down the coast so i just want to experiment for the sake of misting but i will be on your guys level on day you guys kill it with all the info im way out of my league when i read your post lolz for realz.. thankx though..
 
Basil at 11 days since germination. I'm running the mist cycle at :02 on and 4:00 off. They are a tad be wet for Aero, but once the roots are a bit bigger I can turn it down to 1 sec.

thats fucken beautiful. im on it ill post mine im intrested in your timer you gota let me know because im not the best reader!!!! were did you get the timer i was thinking 15 min on 15 off because of the freeken timers they have at hydro...

The Multiponics kit is no better than what you made- save your money. It soaks the roots too for the same reasons of not enough room, etc... You can build a much better system for a tenth of the price... :)

Nice white roots with a lil fuzz! I'm not sure if it's just because it's a basil plant or not, but the roots look a little thin and spindly, and I associate that with slow growing plants that seem to never really take off. I had the same issue with the Aerolife nozzles and believe it's due to the mist being too fine. My HPA rig had the same roots when I tried the Cloudtops nozzles instead of the biocontrols nozzles, the bios produced somewhat thicker nicer roots that made the plant grow fast. You might want to try a few out in one of your chambers, but if just doing microgreens and what not, it may not make a difference. They are much less prone to clogging however due to the loarge orifice- so perhaps there is still an advantage. They also have a good throw and wide pattern, so you might get away with using a bit less nozzles.

I've spoken with several commercial basil growers and they are amazed at the growth. The biggest comment has been on the size of the leaves. We are expecting some monster basil leaves. We are only using 0.08 gallons per plant a day drain to waste, which is almost half the water usage of traditional recirculating hydroponics. Once the plants mature and we have a large root mass, we expect to drop water usage down to 0.05 gallons a day per plant. Here we are at just 2 weeks..

Well, aren't they the picture of health... So green and yes big fat leaves... :) That's really great news I am happy to see it... Your setup looks very clean and professional, I expected nothing less from all the effort you've been putting in...
