Aerogarden v3.0

Okay, I need to know how to start budding the plants, without using a ghetto rig system...

I am going to use the AG nutes, and start out on salad Greens. Should I use salad green nutes?

Couldn't you grow using salad green setting, and as long as you keep the plants pinched, and topped, it will eventually drop to flowering light cycle? Am I correct??

If, anything, how could I use one of those X-Mas light timers, to hook up to my AG lights to start 12/12, to flower my plants?

I'm planning on keeping it pluged in my closet with an ossicilating fan/air purifier behind the system... Should I use foil to keep a lot of light in the room?

Also, should I leave the door open, closed, or cracked?

Is there any risk of the plant getting so tall, that it might result in a fire? I don't want that, I can't burn my house down, I am poor! I mean I'm growing pot aren't I? Well not yet, it's flowering season for Outdoor growing...

Thanks for your help!

I pretty much am left with the AG system to grow, I do not have extra lights, or a flowering chamber, LOL.
You can grow the plants as tall as the AG extension will allow. Just rember the taller you can let your plants grow the more nodes and buds you will be able to grow. Your plants will really start to grow fast when flowering. You are not getto rigging the AG by giving your plants more room to grow taller than the AG will allow. You can buy the correct cords for the hoods at raido shack for $3. This will allow you to extend the lights higher and put them on a seperate timer when you are ready to go to 12/12 for flowering. I do not think the AG has a 12/12 setting. You can buy some light chain and s hooks from Home Depot for $10 to hang your hood higher than the AG extension arm will allow. As far as extra lighting you can buy some 150w full spectrum CFL's at home depot for $19 and reflector hood with a clamp for $5. I would not use the nuts that come with the AG, they are too strong and they will burn your plants. Read the threads by https://www.rollitup.org/search.php?searchid=763421 , https://www.rollitup.org/members/teknique70.html. I think you will be very disapointed if you do. Those nutes are not made for ganja and you are better off spending a little extra and getting the foxfarm nuts or another brand of hydro nutes that you will have better results with ://www.brightideashydro.com/eshop/home.php?cat=327. Why make the same mistakes that others have already made? The hole point of doing this is to get the results that you want, right? The salad greens setting will be fine for vegging but you will have to put the lights on a seperate timer for the 12/12 flowering. I don't think the CFLS will produce enough heat to catch anything on fire if you are careful. Rember that when you are flowering you will need 12hrs of complete darkness. The smallest amount of light can cause your plants to be hermie's,so i would not leave the door open durning the dark cycle. I would use something other than foil. I would use something white like mylar or white foam board form home depot in the roofing department. You can build your own grow box and line it with this stuff and cut some holes for ventilation and hook up a intake and exaust fans. Read the DYI threads. Do your home work. The better planning you do the better your results will be. They also have the silver refletive foam blanket material by the roll that is like the stuff that is used to put on your dash in the summer to keep your car cool, which is like $10 a roll. If your plants get too big for the AG you can always build your own bubbleponic system for $40 using materials form home depot or lowes. Check out this site SH Hydroponics . You can download their instruction manual on their site which gives you a complete list of everything you need and how to build one. For the best results read about what everyone has done with the AG and try to learn from their mistakes. Like Jorge Cervantes says plan before you plant.

Does the Aerogarden have to be enclosed in Mylar? Or can you just run the Aerogarden in open air with the stock lights?

hey guys speaking of mylar... a really great and cheap way to get mylar... Try WalMart.. Sporting Goods... Camping Equipment and then look for space/emergency Blankets... I think they cost around $2 and you get a pretty big piece of mylar... I found out about these when looking for Mylar to make streamers for model rocketry... I also posted on another thread, suggesting someone attempt the Sea of Green method using a AeroGarden.. Id love to hear some results using this method before I jump into AeroFarming.

You can start them without a enclosure but when you flower you will need a controlled environment so the plants will have 12 hrs of complete darkness other wise they will hermie.

Yeah you can get a harvest in the AG's. You will only be able to fit like 2 or 3 lg plants in though. Check out TEK's and some of the other AG grow journals. Here's what mine looked like a few days ago. They are a lot bigger now.

Thanks for all the trouble for helping me out on this situation. But, as of now, I am just sticking with my good old outdoor skills!

hey everybody i have to chime in i see you all growing such killer weed in your aerogardens and i have to say these things are pretty good i have one and i have lowryders growing in it. I started 2 of my plants in soil and ran into problems and ended up stunting them. but the other one i started in the aerogarden and its growing really fast i used the starter nutes that came with my herb kit. anyway i just moved my other plants to the aerogarden and with in the first hour they are recovering. i just want to say for someone who doesn't want to start out with a complicated system then this one would be a great starter system in order to better understand hydroponics. i'll get some batteries for the cheap dig cam i have and post some pics soon.

You can but why not just spring for the extra $50 and get the AG Deluxe or PRO200. If you get the small one for $149 and then wait and get the light upgrade kit for $90, you will be paying $239 instead of $199 for the PRO200.

I finally found a store that sold nothing but hydroponics (figure its the last store I get to) and I have my deluxe coming in on Monday for store pick up. I can't wait thanks guys. My blueberry growth begins Monday.
