Can a large multi-bulb lamp like this be used to grow, if I just insert CFL bulbs?

Seems like a pretty useful thing, 5ft tall, rotate-able arms...
(it apparently uses "type-a" bulbs, the regular kind, 60watts)

I love this thread so much infomation.I have a question this may sound dumb but i really dont have any knowledge about growing and this is my first time so i want to get it right.

let me preface this by saying i am germinating my seeds prior to placing them in the sponge of the aerogarden

1. Should i place more than one germinated seed in the sponge? what would happen if i do? will the plants still grow? i was thinking about putting 3 seeds in one sponge.

i appreciate all responses

Definitely place only 1 seed per sponge. When they sprout, they need all the space they can get, so multiple seeds would just each get less space to grow, leading to poor plant growth.
The key is to start with a full batch of sponges(max minus 1 hole for the air pumps/etc), so that when some of them inevitably fail, you still have a few left that are going strong :)

My current grow(my first), i started with 6 seeds, and 3 didn't sprout. If I had started with only 3 at first, I might have nothing to show for that first week or so!

...but yeah, 1 seed per sponge :)

Try to carefully pull the roots apart, if you can't do it without breaking them just cut off the male plant where the end of the female roots are, then after a while so you can gently remove the dead male roots.

THE PROBLEM WITH THAT LIGHT FIXTURE IS THAT THE SIDES OF THE BULBS WILL LIKELY BE COVERED BY THE HOUSING THE BULBS GOES INTO (BASED ON THE PIX U POSTED).....REMEMBER THAT CFL'S EMIT THERE LIGHT SIDEWAYS AND THE LIGHT WILL NEVER TRULY HIT YOUR PLANTS THEY WAY IT SHOULD.

WHAT??? THAT SOUNDS CRAZY THAT YOU HAVE TO TRY TO REMOVE THE MALE ROOTS.... I DONT THINK THAT IS NECCESSARY, I HONESTLY DONT KNOW FOR SURE BUT IF I THINK ABOUT IT LOGICALLY.....

ROOTS DONT PRODUCE POLLEN SO ITS NOT LIKE THEY WOULD POLLINATE THE FEMALE??? OR DO THEY PRODUCE POLLEN?? OR ARE YOU JUST SAYING THAT BECAUSE THE DEAD ROOTS WILL ROT OUT THE FEMALE ROOTS TOUCHING IT???? IM CONFUSED HERE, DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANY INPUT ON THIS.. BECAUSE NOW IM CURIOUS TOO????/

SOUNDS TO ME LIKE IT WOULD BE A BIG PAIN IN THE ASS TRYING TO SEPERATE ROOTS... NOT TO MENTION THE TRAUMATIC EVENT THE ROOTS OF THE FEMALE PLANT WILL ENDURE IN THIS PROCESS......

HELP A BROTHA OUT CUZ IM CURIOUS...

Thanks for the quick reply. I was freaking out because i thought that was the end of my girls! I cut the root at the base of the stem, then i did my best to remove all of the roots.. I did pretty good i might add. After i removed everything i could i then cleaned out the rez and gave it fresh water with 1/4 of a big Nute tab and balenced out the PH. So far nothing bad has happend to the plants. They still look good and standing tall.. I will wait till tomorrow to see the results.. Oh yea i have A LOT of the roots from my female growing into the water pump.. Is that OK?

i HAD ROOTS IN MY PUMP THE FIRST TIME TOO..... it didnt really affect anything, i cleaned it out before i started this grow.... plus they sell replacement pumps for 10 bux

well Alex what i was thinking about while i was freaking out was (what would happen if the dead roots damaged the roots that were alive.) I mean the dead roots will turn brown and damage the good roots, making the water yucky and forcing the girls to drink shitty water.. Thats what i was thinking about. So it made a little bit of sence o chop the stem off and do my best to remove what i could. ill let u guys know what happens for future growers.
