Advice for a beginner...

Not quite
I ran 70 coco 30 perlite as my fav but ran 5050
And 40/60 (way to dry for me)

Some guys like straight coco

Whoops just reread and realized you said hempys which i have never tried

But if you put it in a pot the above will work lol

yeah, botanicare is a good company. just be aware that you only want to use 20% coco or so, the rest should be perlite. any more coco than that and you start to lose the benefits of the hempy bucket, and it just becomes a pot with a high drain. which isn't a great idea.

Thanks Roger. It's wild, the mixes I've read about are all over the place! How often do you water? Do you use straight perlite in the bottom as some suggest?

yes i do actually, i use 10 gallon totes that are 14 inches deep. i put the drain 4 inches up from the bottom, and fill that 4 inches with straight perlite. i end up watering about twice a week, sometimes three times if i have a couple of big drinkers
