I'm willing to fuck up my thread a little bit for this because I've been feeling like I use too much nutrient solution. But really the only way to use less would be to not have runoff, which I think is a bad idea. I dont even keep my coco moist all the time like some coco growers do. I dont let it dry out, but somewhere in between. I'm on my cell so I cant see if you replied or not I'll check after I post this. It's got me intrigued

Start a new thread If ya want.
I didnt mean to sound offensive or anything. I was saying I'm willing to discuss this in my thread instead of staying on topic. It was kind of a joke. But no worries. I think it just comes down to plant uptake. I was genuinely curious as I'm no pro at coco either. I'm still learning too

update: day 35 of flower
This was kind of an experiment grow. So basically I've never flowered a plant with this many tops (it was my mother plant from last grow). so i guess im just saying, I am kind of winging things as I go. Never had to do so much pruning, trimming, tucking, bending, etc when putting a plant into a scrog. I feel like I got a little greedy and wanted every single shoot to become a main top, when maybe I should have just trimmed off more shoots (side branches, suckers, whatever you call them). Other than that, things have been smoothing pretty saily so far :eyesmoke:.

Looks good. Nice cut you're working with, setup looks clean and you have a green thumb.
Thanks man, I really appreciate that. Nice to read things like that in the morning! I don't know why i didn't ask more about the cut when I bought it. I was so excited to get some new cuts to start growing again (back in the summer), that I guess I forgot to ask more info about it. if you know anything about Adam's OG, let me know. I know its the Leaf Dr's cut from Ann Arbor, Mi. It won a cannibus cup in 2018. I would like to know more about it though, other than what I know from growing it for one harvest.

Looks to be a nice yielder that has high bud to leaf ratio. Does it have that distinct OG gas/fuel flavor?

the characteristics that stood out from the first grow with this cut:
-smell comes on very strong and very soon after flipping. Im horrible at describing odors, but its a beautful smell. not super funky or anything like skunk strains.
-trichs begin forming rapidly very early on from flip
-high yielder and nugs form to be very dense
-extremely stable genetics. It is very resilient to stress and pests. One of the colas were almost touching my light fixture last grow and didnt burn, just got super chucky and dense.
I was more curious if you knew about its history. Either way, yea i think I got a good cut here that I'll hold onto for a while

For some reason I thought you were asking about odor. As far as taste, I dont really know that either. I accidentally dried my crop from last harvest to fast and I figure thats why the flavor seems too mild to describe. The odor is a different story though. I still have several kinks to work out to get that top shelf smell and flavor

Right on. I hate to solicit advice to someone who didn't ask, but drying and curing has been something I've striven to perfect and something I enjoy talking about.

The key to drying is to aim for a room that's 60% humidity at all times. If possible, aim for 60 degrees too, but that's difficult to do for a lot of people. How I achieve a constant 60% humidity is doing a full plant hang in a separate tent, and hook up an AC Infinity fan/controller to said tent. The controller does all the work by increasing and decreasing the fan speed to keep the tent at 60% (which is what I set it to). This was a game changer really.

After 10-14 days I cut the bud off the stem and begin trimming. But most of the buds go untrimmed into a turkey bag and closed for 24 hours to sweat. This technique pulls the moisture out of the middle of the bud (that's still there after hang). So after 24 hours of being sealed, I open the bag and place it back in my dry tent (opened) for another 24 hours or so. I do this as many times as needed until I can get all that moisture out and spread evenly throughout all the buds.

Once this is done, the bud is as good as it would be to sell to a dispensary (once it's trimmed of course). The additional curing does indeed benefit the smell and flavor of the herb, but if the herb isn't smelling "dank" after the sweat, it probably wont ever.

thanks for that step by step advice. sounds like you got things dialed in real nice. its nice to read step by step advice rather than a bunch of contradicting suggestions ha. but yea, that is a very very thorough process. I am going to shoot for a longer, slower dry. 10 days sounds like it would be perfect before jarring them. then i will start refining it more. I think my last crop dried in 5 days, hang dry. then did the jarring and burping. I will definitely keep this advice in mind. thanks a lot! *edit* i like the idea of using a turkey bag rather than a paper bag as some people use. i never liked the idea of first sweating the buds out in a paper bag to get even moisture content bc the paper would soak up some goodies ha idk, but a turkey bag sound like a good alternative

Try using turkey bags in lieu of jars sometime. I like glass jars for final product, but find it easier to cure in bags. They fit a lot more herb in them and it's lighter, rather than hearing the clinking of jars over and over and screwing/unscrewing caps. Trust me, I think once you try it you'll find it a lot easier and probably won't want to go back.

Even just leaving the leaves on and doing big branch hangs (instead of full plant hang) will help you get to that 10 day mark, that's usually when most of my stuff is ready. I'll keep following along.

You make a very compelling case! I think I may have to try that turkey bag idea. My only worry would be mold since you would have a larger amount in one enclosed container. I suppose you just keep a closer eye on it,...as with trying anything new. i did have a specific question and I'll ask you since it sounds and looks like you know your stuff. Would changing from 600 watt hps to 1000 watt hps, this stage in flower,...even if I raised the light. should i just stay at 600 watt for the rest of this grow

I'll be honest with ya, I'm not sure if it'll shock the plants. My gut feeling (if it were me) would be to ride it out with the 600 for now. I'm not the best person to answer that one.

As far as the turkey bags, I would think they wouldn't be any more prone to mold than jars. If the bud is molding in the jar that's an indicator that it needed more time to dry, or it molded during drying and you didn't notice it until the jar. I wouldn't let that thought deter you from trying it out for yourself. I too used jars for a long time, but as my growing style produced more buds I found it to be a more laborious job to cure. That was when I got online and saw commercial growers managed large quantities of herb and applied that to my system. If you're only curing a couple OZ then I'd say it makes no difference, but when I have 1-2 lbs at a time, jars become my enemy.
