A total newbie question

But well...I'm a new to this...Is it normal for a half day old sprout's leaves to still be fully encased by the seed shell like a helmet? It's stalk has straightened out except for the top, where it bends at a 90 angle just before the leaves, which are still fully encased.

I wish I could provide a picture but I have no camera handy.

Should I give it time, or should I gently remove the seed shell?

Give the seed case some time to dry out a bit and see if the seed leaves pop out on there own. If it dries out and they still have not come out VERY carefully use a pair of tweezers to remove the seed casing. :peace:

Makes sense...Thanks for the quick response:leaf:

Be careful there is also often a clear membrane around the seed leaves after you remove the casing too. Sometimes I remove the casing and let the membrane dry a bit too before removing it.

Now that I know this isn't a dire situation...yet, I'm going to give mother nature until this time tomorrow before intervening. But if I do have to remove it myself, I'm going to do it EXTREMELY carefully not to cause any harm to my baby:leaf:

Thanks again.
