A Promised Land

My copy of Obama’s memoir arrived today. Looking forward to reading his perspective on the events that occurred during his presidency. I realized later, today is the anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Unfortunately we will never get to read his perspective on civil rights, the Bay of Pigs, meeting Kruschev, the Cuban missile crisis, the space program, etc. Even if he lost to Goldwater (which he probably wouldn’t have), his 3 years in office were quite eventful.

President Kennedy was before my time, but my friend's mom told me she was a senior in high school when he was assassinated, she told me how hard she cried when they announced it at her school, for hours she cried.

She still chokes up when she told me about it

I was a toddler so I obviously don’t remember it. My mother is like your friends mother and chokes up telling the story of when she heard the news. My mother is Irish so she felt a special bond with Kennedy. She was driving to my grandmother’s place to do laundry when the news came on the car radio. I was a little over a year old perched on top of a laundry basket that sat loosely on the front seat. I’m sure she had a cigarette going too.

Different times.

I am currently reading it as well. I am enjoying it but I have to say it parallels Michelle’s book so much that I feel like I already read it in many ways . I devoured Michelle’s book but can’t get quite as excited with this at this point. It’s still a good read. Michelle’s childhood was so much more interesting then he describes his.

I haven’t started reading it yet as I’m finishing another book first but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve read his other books and love his writing.

I actually met Bubbles in person , lol, in Seattle Washington at a comic book / DVD weird movie store the boys were doing for fans . I got him to sign collage art painting I made of him with his kitty cats . He loved it. They were on tour “ the trailer park boys” and we saw them that night after the in-store in downtown Seattle at the Paramount Theatre. It was a great show . A lot of interaction with the audience .
