You’re feeding your paranoia. This is common. See how easily bullshit conspiracies can propagate. You weave from thin air and use bubba logic

Apophis is supposed to miss us in 2029, they've recently calculated it misses us in 2036...

Is it coincidental that the richest just happen to be privatizing space exploration? Or is there a more dire reason for the drive???
I think it's pretty unlikely theres anything in the near term.
Let's imagine there was a earth killer in the next 20 years. There would be leakers. Whistle blowers. That info WOULD get out. Theres no amount of money that could keep all the scientists and researcher silent.

It would also be in the best interests of the hyper rich to get the info out.
With the whole worlds population informed then a litteral army of workers building rockets, mining resources and others would be building rockets to attack and divert the earth killer, and another team rapidly building colonies.

I think this is simply a effort to go back to space after waiting too long to resume something we started a long time ago.

That could be the case @growingforfun, though I don't think the common folk are really privy to matters of national security.. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's for multiple reasons.

@Rrog what happened to the dinosaurs? Happens all the time, in fact it's an inevitability.. Sorry though, didn't mean to make you crap your pants.. lol

Neil says its not big enough for extinction level. Would they tell us? Says it's most likely headed for Pacific if it does hit, but if it hit land what's the difference in fallout? I'm not too worried about a west coast tsunami if that's all it is in the worst case scenario. That's what Neil says, downplays it to a big tsunami in worst case scenario..

Your right that matters of national security are kept from the public, but this is a differant level, and WORLDWIDE. Not every government acts the same, theres too many loose ends for them to all be tied up and shut up.

Things that a kept secret are done so because it serves no purpose to speak on.
In this case the effect would mostly be unified support to save their own lives, I assume the vast majority of people would happily donate every past penny they could to donate to the effort. Keep in mind it could litterally be as simple as getting boots on the ground, or robots, or even unmanned craft up there to paint a portion of the earth killer white and the sun would redirect it.

If the world were to end in 25 years, what would the majority psychology be like? Hysteria or, acceptance??
You forgot the most likely option, a frantic and dedicated effort at preservation.

If there was a portion that impedes the effort they would be eliminated.

If you cant imagine it, then just look at history and what happens when a group faced extermination.

If the population refused in majority, after a few hundred thousand were killed or even a few million the rest would work willing or grudgingly. That's how humans are.

I personally dont think it would have to come to that but since you seem to think it would just be chaos, I can assure you there would be a order put in place quickly

Idk what itd be like, I think there'd be a fair amount of chaos, yes. Probably lots of resource hoarding, yes. But maybe cooler heads would prevail. Imo it would break social structures and cause a redefining of what's valuable and what's not. The uber rich are capable of getting the majority to vote not in its best interest already, and the powers that be have held poor people in poverty forever, I'm sure lots of lives have been lost due to malnourishment ect, so to some it may feel like it's already here (end of the world) yet the conditions and lack of resources persist despite the will to live.. I'd like to believe that everyone would play fair and that order would reign, but imo its not even that way right now..

If order does reign, what kind of order? Extreme authoritarian? I just don't see starvation or impending doom bringing out the best in humanity.. I see lots of fighting for survival and hoarding by the powers that be while the rest are given false hope and broken promises...
