£61.18 bill after ordering lights from China

I have only ordered once but it was 1350 bucks and my friend has ordered at least 8 times in the last year or so .....all from alibaba. no extra cost besides what they asked for. I do not understand this.

this is because of Brexit. logistics companies have to collect "import duty" or whatever its called. dont buy anything from inside the uk and youre good. outside the UK expect another bill. this has been all over the bbc website, granted the article was about people buying clothes not grow lights lol.

That's a great way to screw your own credit rating. Import fees, duty and taxes are the norm here in Canada and always have been. It's why I dont order from Alibaba. Has nothing to do with them, just where they are. Sometimes you dont get charged sometimes you do. It's the government, not the shipper.

I got scammed for $500 on that site. When I showed them the proof of it they dropped all communication with me and the seller still ripping people off to this day.

Again fuck alibaba.

I've just posted one to states that cost me £58.60

I never considered import duty/vat whatever but I wouldn't try to avoid paying it, it's my fault for not doing my homework.
The really bloody annoying bit is that's the 1st letter I've had, I've no problem with paying the vat/duty but I feel I'm getting blatantly fucked, the original costs would be around £25.

I'll try to prove my case but I expect I'll get fkd in the end regardless.

To elaborate on this so people dont think I'm just hating.

I'm a precious metal refiner. I mostly work with computer parts to get the gold from them.

I ordered 100s of pounds of old ass ram sticks.

Paid $500 for it. Not only did it never get sent but they also tried to extort me for $100s more talking about how shipping is more expensive than once thought.

I obliged and sent another $300 for shipping.

Never got my materials and not only did alibaba refuse to respond to me once I showed a scam but they also protected the seller.

Turned out the seller was from uganda and just scams people left and right. Multiple cases of the same online from the same or similar sellers of the same stuff.

Be careful when dealing with them. They don't give a flying fuck who they are screwing.

That sucks man. I am always concerned when I have no protection for orders of any kind. I prefer to be able to walk in and stand in someone's face if possible.

Yep. With my business most of the material I am working with is from out of the country.

Kinda messy setup but we take out e-waste and send it to other countries. They sort it and sell it back to people like me.

It's really ass backwards but due to it I am always at risk of getting screwed. Luckily I found a provider from canada and it's been secure and trust worthy.

Standard. Gotta calculate that in when importing anything. If you can get it posted to a local then can post it to you as a present without the labels on... otherwise your paying tax on it

im willing to bet it wasnt too. they are legit "ebay style" sellers. Without the protection of ebay. Probably more compareable to amazon without the protection.
Alibaba charged me 60 fuckin bucks just to use a prepaid card for my order!
