600w MH for cloning

no that would be ideal IMO , just dont put the clones under them straight away .. once they have dropped roots give them 2 weeks under some cfls then make the transition

I guess my question is if I was to put the clones under 600w to start(with correct distance) would there be any problems...

A 600 watt light is fine for clones. Keep the light at least 18" or more for the first week and then keep the light 12-18" away after that until harvest.

If you're asking if a 600 watt light is okay for clones that you've just taken, no it is not. A 600 watt bulb will be too much light unless you have it 3 or 4 feet away but then you are just wasting electricity because you could accomplish the same amount of light from lower wattage bulbs placed closer. I use the new wave 4x25 watt T5 fluoro's for cloning. I use one of those lights per tray for clones and seedlings. They are also bright enough to veg and keep mothers under but you won't get fast growth since it's only around 200 watts. You can get away with a few 15 watt cfl's for your clones also if you can't afford new wave T5 systems. Get some T5's, cfl's, or T8's if you can.
