600mh vs 600hps for veg stage, which is better ?

if you have a choice should you always go with mh for veg? the reason i ask is because my 600MH bulb is rated for significantly less lumens than my 600HPS, as are all mh bulbs are significantly lower lumens than their HPS counterparts of the same wattage. so what the fuck guys ? if it's more lumens we are after, and you have a choice, should you run the hps? p.s. i run a cool tube hood hooked up to a 6" 450cfm inline so i can put my light closer than 12" and i am huntin for fastest growth

i am also aware of trying to replicate the outside seasonal spectrums of color to accomodate what the plants have evolved to know as "normal", but aside from that, doesn't it seem that with more raw intensity you would be able to notice better results ? folks, let's get someone who has some experience with all this hands on, please ty

hps will make your veg plants much more stretchy and mh is good to prevent this (shorter tighter nodes). hps veg moms nothing more i would say.

ime plants dont need as much light in veg as they do in flower. the mh will give you closer nodes. the light efficiency is not as great with a mh but it has more to do with the type of chlorophyll production at what range in the light spectrum.

I have a 1000W. set-up with 2 1000W. ballasts, one for HPS bulbs and one for MH bulbs. Most people use the MH for vegging and switch to HPS
for flowering. My MH ballast with bulb was a lot hotter than the HPS set-up so I quit using the entire MH set-up and leave my HPS ballast and
bulb in place for the entire grow. I was worried about vegging with the HPS as I'd heard I would have long node distances and "leggy" plants.
But not to worry -- I keep a very detailed log of each grow and I could verify that my plants vegged just as well with the HPS as they did with
a MH veg. Now I've got 2 entire 1000W. MH set-ups (original plus a back-up) sitting in the closet. But my grow room is a lot cooler!

well, id pick a 600 hps over a 400mh (thats what ive tried)

the hps made for a much more robust and strong plant. tad stretchier but all the other qualities more than made up for it.

i generally use 600 hps from start to end (though i sometimes use the mh for sidelighting when its cool enough outside, it adds a punch to the mix, the leafs look better, but id only use mh for sidelighting)

thanks guys, you get all the wannabe guru's up in here praying about mh for veg, and i understand that the spectrum for mh is suited best for veg state, but the intensity just seems old school. also, i lst and supercrop so stretch is always at a minimal, and i can live with a lil stretch i guess as long as i get more lumens i suppose, thank you all who helped me out. p.s. cool tube hoods are fuckin great to minimize stretchies, i know some of you guys know what i am talking about.

The standard 4200k MH did not do as much for me as I would have liked. I want to try one of the enhanced spectrum MHs...I think (key word think) this will help with faster growth.
