do not use halogen or incadescent lamps.try to find some cfl's or fluoroscent tubes.they are not expensive in shops and in use.happy growing!

yea dude the real grow lights are the hid lights, get a 400Watt switchable MH & HPS cost from $110 to $160, anything else would be uncivilized

i agree with you pandabear, but u gotta realize some people dont have the cash/will to get an hid. i agree its the only way to go but some people try to make it happend with cfls. cant knock em for tryin.

Years ago i used to use 500watt halogens and they are fine for flowering but not much good for veg but they should be kept 24" away from the plants and use a fan blowing air over the tops of the plants:blsmoke:

yea true that if you cant get the money cfl is the only other way. but will end up costing you just as much almost when all said and done so may as well get a used HID light.

i hear ya on that one, but people just dont realize that to do a good cfl grow u will spend as much or more than on a good hid light. i guess people dont like putting the money up front and like spending it over time. i opted to put it all up and get it done right the first time.

HID lights usually grow bigger plants, which in turn use more co2. which is mo better for the world!

u will use the same amount of watts doing a good cfl grow as u will with an hid

yeah, they're so much better for the world they decided to add mercury to them as an added kick. that way, every time they're disposed of improperly, the earth gets poisoned a little bit more

like he said! you use ONE hps bulb to grow whatcha need instead of 10-20 cfl bulbs. but in the end, in a hid all the electricty is transfered to ONE bulb. with all the wiring and multiple bulbs of a cfl grow your bound to lose some electricity going from bulb to bulb(thats just the nature of electricity, much power is lost just getting it from the plant to your house. in the end you use the same IF NOT MORE waste wattage with a cfl grow than you will with a HID system. HID's resulit in better buds if yalll werent aware of that obvious information. Im stoned/drunk and this is my best post yet on the topic, so screw you who cares!:hump::hump::hump:

you raise a good point johnnypotseed but fossil fuels also contain mercury so using incandescent lights burns more coal thus releasing more mercury Image:Mercury emissions by light source (en).svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
check the link. also, MH is just a chunky version of a mercury lamp with a few metal compounds added and an HPS contains sodium dissolved in mercury so you cant win no matter wher you go.
