oh and by the way in case it matterd. im doing this b/c i am unhappy with the yield i am getting. i currently have 1x 600watt air cooled yield master hood with 6" flanges. if i were to go with the extra 1000watter, what do you think my yield will increase by? i have a 40"x40"x8' room under excellent conditions as far as humid., temp, ventalation. im trying to get at leat 1.5 oz. a plant

Ok and is the 1000 really that much better than the 600. my local store guy said that the 600 had the best ratio of spectrum that i would want, can anybody help?

What type medium you using to grow in? If your not yeilding atleast 1.5 a zip under a aircooled 600, there may be other factors than lighting.

But if you got it to blow. Look into a dual spectrum digital ballast. dual 600's I believe in some you can run a 400 mh and 600 at the same time. With aircooled hood, and temps etc in place...

I agree.600W should be getting you great yields Lumatek has a dual 600W ballast that fires two bulbs at once. If you want more light, that might be the way to go.

my local hydro shop talked my buddy out of the 1000 for the 600....they work off commission so i would of thunk the 1000's BUT they said 600's are producing amazing results and yields combined with the right nutes.

Peace

i have yet to see the lumatek that fires 2x bulbs, im going to go look. so you think i should be getting more that 8 oz. off 9 plants dryed and cured?

im kinda a newb at this. i have had 3 cycles complete so far and no major catastrophes yet. i do agree but i dont know why im getting such small harvest. i have 3'x3.5' with 9 soil pots. 1x600 hortiulux, 1x vortex 500cfm fan, built in air conditioner, heater, and a dehumididief. temps stay at 72-76 during lights and humid. stays withinn my 10% flux. what could i be doing wrong. i use nothing but the best and most expensive nutrients

I would get another 600watter just for the sac you already have another 600w going. Those 2 together still don't use as much energy then a 1000w. You would be able to get a digi ballast, hood and bulb for $450. I have a nextgen 400w600w HPS or MH and I'm looking at adding another one after my first harvest. Not heat from the ballast, or sound at that. Plus you can tun the lamp cord 65' vs 15' on old school ballast.

i am vegging. until my babe's are like 12" tall, thats what my local hydro store guy said. i got the light for it, im using 600w air cooled and my room in 7' tall

I tend to agree with some of the other fellas here. I don't think light is your problem.
How big are the pots you're using?
What kind of veg light and routine do you use?
Do you top your plants at any point to increase yield?

i use 3 gallon pots. i veg under a 600watt mh cool conversion bulb, like 125 bucks so it should veg. correctly. they are under 24/7 for about 5 weeks, then to the 12/12 for the remaining 10. i use dutch gold nutrients, voo-doo, carbo-load, big bud, and blood bud for a week. i keep strict ppm checks every watering and my ph remains close to 5.8-6.0. i know that my local guy grows so i know he kool, besides chytown, i tell you im growing?:joint::hump:

oh, almost forgot. from what i have seen, when i dont top and leave a main, i believe i get more so i try not to top unless there's a couple to tall

Topping early during veg and then vegging those new tops for a while is probably one of the best things you can do for yield in my opinion. I like to top at the 4th node for 8 bud shutes and veg them until you have a nice bushy plant about 12-15" tall. For me that takes about 45 days. After flower stretch if you have any problems with them falling open, just make a wire hoop to hold it into a nice compact shape. That's when your 600w will shine.

ok so i just bought a new setup. gotta digital switchable ballist 600w with both bulb upgrades. got the agro-max mh conversion and the agro-max hps for the future, lol, yhea baby!!!! so top now while they are 7 inches high and then veg that for a few weeks is what you are saying.?

maybe it's been said but i don't feel like reading

go with a 1000w HPS and also buy a 1000w MH Bulb (I believe any 1000w MH bulb will work, it doesn't need to specifically be a "conversion bulb").
As far as brand goes, whatever, shop around for a reasonable price for an effective light. Yup.
