So I didn't forget that I promised another update. I took some images yesterday; the first few are of the veg room with the 2nd generation, then there are some bonus pics of the flowering room and nugs.

First off; changed the fan position for the veg room to be slightly more efficient (fan-wise) and out of the way.

K7qgM.jpg

Below is a group-shot of the veg room as it stands 1/14. I have no idea what day veg these guys are (this log will help me figure that out soon) but they need to be transplanted in a day or three.

  • I am; my patients are just a few friends so right now it's more fucking around than really having a quota or target to meet. I'm also a foodie and an amateur cook; I've been thinking about getting a kitchen and an MIP license (allows you to manufacture and wholesale edibles and concentrates) next year, but the up-front costs of expanding my operation to commercial size are pretty... hefty.

Best part is I'm 100% legal!

Says in location you are from BC. British Columbia? being canadian myself i looked into medical mj to avoid the manditory minimum sentencing since i use it to treat my addictions. but being that you literally need to be dying or on your deathbed you can't get your medical mj in canada.

Asked my doctor about it once, bad mistake being from a small town.

Yeah bud no worries. I was living in BC for a couple years doing some consulting (not mj related, obviously). The guys I lived with up there had a 3rd party location that was used as a grow. I was able to fuck around there without any worries.

Now I have since moved back to the USA (not Canadian) and I have my med card and a few close friends as patients. It's so easy here I can't even tell you; personally I'm a nerve pain patient, but people get MMJ real easy.

so stupid here, america legalizes canada goes with manditory minimums. I gave up on politics, its has nothing to do with what people want anymore.
I don't blame the cops that carry out the this shit in canada, they are only doing their job. But being a human being i am not going to be subjected to other peoples thoughts of morals when they don't even apply to the situation

I'll defend myself any and all ways i can from this bullshit.

So I'm noticing a Potassium (K) deficiency in some plants. I'm going to get some liquefied kelp tomorrow and treat my most affected, as well as a light treatment for everyone.

Has anyone had K deficiency problems in SS before (I'm researching as we speak so please don't chastise me about the search function!)? If so (of if you can recommend one), could you please recommend a plausible long-term (i.e. for the remaining 7ish weeks of flowering) treatment plan?

Thank you everyone!

P.S. I will upload a couple pics later on or tomorrow.
P.P.S. no cold temps (aside from water) or pH lockout issue here! Definitely in need of K from outside source.

Sub's take on the matter seems to be that the K in the Roots base is sufficient.

My answer to the debate on K is it must be in there you guys have seen my plants and there are no deficiencies that I can see.

I will try some Maxi Crop on the Cheese to see if thats why shes such a bitch in flower but what she does in super soil she does in AN hydro and ever other medium I have seen.

Last years Space Bomb cover of Hightimes yielded 9 ounces theres no way the soil is lacking.

Sub

Should I just play doctor with the kelp and then see where the next few weeks take me? Or should I try to incorporate more K from now throughout flowering?

Not to discredit Sub in anyway, but I'm surprised that the Spacebomb didn't yield more than it did. 9oz is a good pull, but SCOTTYBALLS was getting 10+ (Pineapple Express by...DNA Genetics I believe?) in a single Waterfarm using only Flora Nova Bloom (both cycles) and no bloom boosters.

You could always buy a soil test and get exact numbers on how much K is in the soil, and amend from there.

Still been a little neglectful of this log, but wanted to drop some more nug pr0n on you guys. Sorry goes out to a friend who I promised an update earlier; the land of erl misses you, bro! I'm dabbing chocolope wax in your honor as I type this.

Today is day 35 flower. The veg room has been selectively reduced in population size, and the best specimens have been retained as moms and transplanted to either 10 or 15 gal rootpots.

Now for the flowering side. To reiterate today is day 35; these shots are from day 33 flower. Since these images have been taken I top dressed almost all the plants, with special attention to those showing N, P, or K issues.

Yeah my understanding of the SS having talked to some growers this season is that it is not designed to maximize yield. Last week I spoke with a grower for a very popular dispensary with several locations. He said they used the SS for a while, but since switching to all cocoa and Canna Cocoa A+B, Cannazyme, and something else in the Canna suite, they have seen much higher yields and trichome development.

This grower suggested that they yield something like 10-15% greater and test 5-8% higher in THC content using Cocoa w. Canna's line. That being said he praised sub's recipe for excellent terpene production and flavor.

I think I may try out cocoa and canna for my next run while I cook some new SS, as it is just warming up outside.

I also know of a couple dispensary owners out in Colorado that swear by coco coir. Costs a pretty penny, but I have seen some great results from it.

All in all, everything looks very good. Very few show deficiencies.

::Pat on the back::

So about 30 more days and we're going to see some real porn?

  • Thank you for the positive reinforcement! I'm very pleased with how everything has gone thus far, and I have some great ideas about what to change next round. Now that all my gear is purchased and installed to my liking I will have a lot more time to focus on the nitty gritty!

And yes in 30 days we're going to have legit porn. The terpene production is already making that room smell like a sexxxy potpourri

OK everyone so I've figured out a way to make this work for now.. it won't look exactly the same but we'll all be OK. I took some shots a couple days ago on what would be day 45, IIRC.

I'm really baked so I'm going to be brief; I will post the strain of a specific plant, and then several pictures.. mostly closeup shots. When I transition from one strawberry cough to another (for example), I will simply say strawberry cough again, I'm not going to bog anyone down with my own personal numbering system. Here goes..

Here is a Strawberry Cough that I suspect was K deficient. The nugs are fairly mature and look good but she's too tall and lanky compared to all her sisters. Unless this is a sativa leaning pheno and I'm underestimating her.. this one will go mostly to hash.

Sweet Tooth looks phenomenal. Really great stuff.

Going to run all BHO? Some Bubble? Or maybe just get those palms clean and roll yourself up some charas? :-o

I will post a more thorough update later, but this is a brief run down of what I've been working on this week. I'm a big fan of Ed Rosenthal's 'Marijuana Grower's Handbook', and I've been really thinking on Ed's curing method. Ed recommends to cure before drying (I know, I know); his contention is that the plant's metabolic processes continue for up to 72 hours after the plant has been cut down. Rosenthal goes on to suggest that during these 72 hours, if the flowers can be kept at 50% RH and 60-70 degrees fahrenheit, they will conintue to break down complex carbohydrates as well as starches into sugars. Since I went balls to the wall on my first organic grow, and because I was extremely baked at the time I made this decision, I ordered some new toys...

Here is my stoney (but possibly genius) curing cabinet supply list:

1 x GL120 (Growlab 120L grow tent)
2 x 4" personal fans (Holmes.. little cage fans)
1 x 4" booster fan (for exhaust)
1 x Titan Controls humidity controller (humidistat and dehumidistat... more later)
And today I'm picking up a hanging dry rack (probably the AN brand)

I've assembled the perfectly new, clean tent in a clean room with a HEPA filter running 24x7. This filter is boss and can filter the volume of a 1k sq/ft apartment roughly every hour. I have the booster fan as a constant exhaust, and the 4" personal fans running (one top down and one bottom-up) inside the cab at all times. I have an ultrasonic humidifier on the floor of the cab set to low, and that is connected to the humidity controller. The humidity controller is suspended from the top of the cab on the inside and I've attached a garden hygrometer to get a ballpark RH so I don't put too much trust in the Titan (although they make good products, AFAIK).

Ideally my plan is to harvest, manicure, place buds in the cure cab at 50% RH for 72 hours, and then dry them as slowly as possible from that point until they pass the stick test. I would love to do all this in the cure cab, lowering the RH 3% or 2% per day every day after the initial 72 hrs at 50%... doing so until I reached about 20-25% (ideal storage humidity?) and possibly burping the jars for a bit as well. I think what will wind up happening is the cab will be used for curing at 50% RH for 72 hours, and then buds will need to be dried in another area. If this is the case I plan to some how set up a 30-35% RH area which will be used for 'drying'.

I will post pics of the setup later.. Also I took down a single Strawberry Cough today! 8 beautiful compact colas and some bottom nugs which I removed.. not even a quad of larfy buds on the whole plant! Seriously the main line tek has been a n00b grower's wet dream! I should mention the SuperSoil has also imparted these nugs with a SERIOUS terpene content, they smell great and the scissor hash is spectacular; I'm definitely making sure to harvest the rest early early AM for max terpene levels!

I have to say Sub and Nugs have me sold on these techniques in conjunction, although I'm sure they work wonders separately as well. I may still be forced to run my next flowering cycle with coco / Canna's coco line.. but I am definitely buying more roots base and SS fixins' next weekend. This has been too much fun.. now time for some work!

You were using Sub's 2012 recipe, correct? I think he's made a couple alterations to the recipe over the years, and will publish them every so often.
