4 plant LED scrog grow

So, would it be better to do an 8x3 setup for 4 plants with a scrog? I would want 1 foot or so to get around to the backside so im not leaning over too much.

Would that makes sense to go LED or should I just do a 600 watt. HPS?

Im not sure if im up for spending 1000 for a plasma light on my first grow.
OP, for an 8x3 setup, you're going to have to use multiple lights to cover the whole area. If you use HID lighting, I think you'll need two 600-watters. If you go for LED lighting, I'm not sure what you'd need. I'm just now getting into LEDs myself.

My situation is very LED-friendly. I'm a small, personal grower. I have a small 4x4 grow closet. And now that I've learned to SCROG, it's probably all I'll ever do. So my situation is perfect for LEDs. Small grow area inside my house, eliminates my heat problems in the hot summer (i.e. allows me an extra grow per year), and SCROG eliminates light penetration problems since all my buds are at the same height.

In your case, just starting out, and having an oblong (8 x 3) grow area, I'm not sure that LEDs would be the best route to go. HID is gonna cost less up front, and you can even find good used reflectors on Craigs List. I might even try a used ballast for my first grow or two. But make sure to change bulbs at least once per year. Start small, and give it time to make sure you're gonna like growing before you set up such a large area with top-of-the-line equipment.

I guess I'd like to ask why you want to start out with such a big grow area?. New growers make mistakes and many times fail on their first grow or two. I'd suggest starting out with a nice, manageable 3x3 or 4x4 grow room. You could even buy a tent of those specific sizes. Tents are good for beginners because they have so many problems already solved for you. Reflective walls, air intake and exhaust vents, supports for hanging heavy equipment, and they're very portable.

And for my first grow or two, I wouldn't try SCROG. You have many things to learn about basic growing, so I'd wait till I had a few grows under my belt before adding the extra work of SCROG.

Expert growers, please chime in here to correct any bad advice I may have given the OP.

Hey,

Im thinking of trying an indoor grow. I have a large area, 10x10 but am only interested in 4 plants. Im looking to do a Scrog grow, and I would like to run this with LED's as opposed to HPS. I intend to use soil as a medium.

Im looking for some guidance on what size I should set up my Scrog screen, and what brand and wattage of light(s) i should buy. I want to run with LED and perhaps a light that can run both veg and flowering.

Since I'm new, I'm looking for easy to start and understand that Ill sacrifice some yield, etc to get comfortable with the process.
Whats your price range for the LED?

That's about the best advice I've seen going yet, and that's exactly what I am saying, in the case of Greengenes comparison grow, the guy has experience. Obviously.

To make the immediate leap into LED and large scale SCROG would be a huge and discouraging disappointment until you can get the basics down, at the very least.

This is as far as I will go with entertaining the mudslinging that this thread has become..

you all can take it or leave it...

fact is most people cant be bothered to do what GG did... and I can understand.... if you like LEDS grow with them.. if you like HID grow with them but FFS all of you grow up...

https://www.rollitup.org/t/apache-at600-led-vs-1000w-hps-blue-dream-grow.813412/

Fact is, most people can't AFFORD to spend on an initial investment, to do what GG did. I will continue to say that I have not ever once stated that LED's are "bad", or that they don't work. I will continue to state as I have all along that they are a great option when the situation calls for them. Apparently, for whatever reason, people feel the need to become so hostile over someone having an opinion that LED's are sub par, in MOST situation, but, can excel when certain situations arise that make these lights invaluable to the experienced grower.

Do I need to say this 10 more times so people get it?

I've spent a couple days rolling through the posts and trying to make heads/tails of everything I'm reading, from what I understand, LED is better for heat management, and more efficient on electricity, which was a big factor for me.

With respect to T5 vs LED vs HID, I'm not really in a great position to see the differences. From what Ive read, HID will get me better results than t5 or CFL, and there is a toss-up as to whether LED can get as good results as HID. I hope I understood that correctly... After reading some 800 messages, you kind of lose track of whats what.

I've been reading about Scrog and it seemed like a fun thing to try. Im looking into genetics right now to find some good feminized seeds to try it with.

I actually have quite a bit more room than the 10x10, but I'm not looking for a huge quantity setup, just a little hobby to do. (But i want to make sure i start on the right foot, hence my question).

Would a 4x3 screen be good for 4 plants in a scrog running with LED's?

(I looked on amazon and saw the Apollo Horticulture 300W unit and it seemed in my price range). I think that should be sufficient for a 4x3, as i read that you need 25 watts per sq foot. Any thoughts, or would there be a better unit for 300 that i should look at?
Hey my lol led is twice as hot as my plasma. Draw from plasma is 235 draw in led with 3 fans is 135. Rocket plasma is coolest light out there

As I have stated all along, these lights have their purpose when the purpose suits, yields are nice, for those lights. My situation allows me year round perpetual operation.

Good luck to you as well!

As for the Fanboys who will continue to insist that there are side by side grows that are showing the same yields as HIDs, while never providing links to any of these side by side grows that are yielding the same, or more as HID's. Everyone that I've seen is "ok", but, but nothing to rave about... I'm not going to run out and trade in my 1000w for a $1000 disco light..
Sorry to tell you but for some people quantity isn't everything it is well documented that weed grown under the same conditions with only the lights being different I.E. HPS vs quality LED , the LED bud has came out on top for resin production and THC content , and lab tests have proved it. Look at greengene's 1000w hps vs AT600 he got his marijuana lab tested the hps was lower THC content and all cannabinoids were lower than the LED buds.

thats why i have decided to Plasma and HPS for last 3 weeks of growing.. Plasma for first 6 weeks and combined for last few my strain in 10-12 week indica dominant hybrid just saying

Ultimately I decided to go with a DR150 tent, 600watt light, soil medium for my first run at it. Went with Auto's, (I know they are finnicky, or can be, but I wanted to be a bit adventurous) got myself a charcoal air filter, with more than enough power to move the air through. I just got the seeds started (first set of leaves right now). I'm debating about trying mainlining on one of them and letting the other go 'normal' just in case my mainlining fails miserably.

I'm running HID/HPS for now, and once I get this stuff figured out would look at making a change to either LED or plasma.
Like some of the advice given, I got to figure out things like managing nutes, figuring out PH (which is probably easy once you do it, but for the first time some of this can be daunting) then going through the harvesting process, curing, make some hash (albeit a small amount based on 2 plants). Maybe do a cycle or two and get it 'down pat' with some confidence then upgrade from there.
