320w QB or 315 CMH

@Yodaweed don't waste your time with these anti UV guys. they are bush league pseudo scientists on their best day.
Yeah, just keep on pretending that's what it is.

The problem lies in your claim that CMH provides just as much UVB as was used in those tests and/or that the amount of UVB doesn't matter. How about you post a study that proves that? A study where they didn't need UVB bulbs and could simply use CMH to increase THC by 20% or even 30%.

Stop moving goal posts and back up the (your) claim that's actually being contested.

Because in reality they needed to add the equivalent of 78W of UV bulbs per m2 to reach that "up to 30% more THC" result. You could simply use that much watts to grow 30% more weed in total instead.

Reviving the thread. Got two grows under my belt in a 3x3x6 feet tent, 315 CMH vertical from Sunsystem, coco grow, canna coco a+b, calmag and Pk13/14. First grow was 3 auto Northern lights from Nirvana including a stunted plant that yielded 17 oz not including popcorns. Second grow, same set up but 4 plants from mephisto, 2 Gold Glue and 2 Alien vs Triangle that yielded 13 oz not including popcorn which there was lots.

Looking to upgrade to a bigger tent 4x4. Perhaps a mix of 1 x 315 CMH and a 1 x HLG 320 XL V2? or two HLG 320 XL? What do you think?

Quality far surpasses any other light i have grown with. Terps and overall presentation is more important than yield to me. Luckily cmh still can yield fairly substantially. Currently flowering out 4 plants under a 630w cmh. Ive posted pics from my previous run with a single blue dream cut under two - 315w cmh fixtures. Yielded around a lb with just one plant
If i would have done multiple plants and filled the tent i would have yielded more. Best run so far was with 6 plants in a 5x5 under my 630w cmh. Yielded roughly 800 grams. This run wont get close to that. I need to find better genetics for this 5x5 foot print

You can't replace UV with more blue wavelenghts. CMH puts out UV, LEDs don't, no amount of high kelvin light is going to change that. Trichome coverage says fuck all about potency, with LEDs the frostyness is nothing but appearance.
Thank you for pointing this out. Added blues trigger different hormones and reactions than UVB would trigger. Plants push out extra trichromes as a defensive mechanism when confronted with UVB. I use two phillip 315w cmh bulbs in flower. Both provides lots of uvb. On top of that. I use two 3100k bulbs for the first 5 weeks of flower. Than switch out one of the 3100k bulbs and swap in a 4200k bulb for added blue at the end of flower. Works amazing

One test indeed showed this, but only when using a lot of UV and it's even unsure if this was with UV-B or actually UV-A.

So that might be true, but CMH and MH normally only produce UV in very small quantities. Is there any (scientific/repeated) lab test showing CMH/MH lights producing higher TC amounts than other lights?
Actually the cmh bulbs have been noted to produce a fairly substantial amount of UVB...Hence why some growers have even reported mild sun burns when having there skin exposed for long periods of time. The bulbs are even double jacketed to try and limit that amount of uvb. Which is why they have a T12 jacket. If you notice alot of times you see more color change on buds and leaves when grown under cmh similar to when grown under the sun. Nothing to do with spectrum. Mainly to do with UVB

If you think about it that'
how much I paid. About $220 for thr ballast and hood. The Phillips bulbs 31k & 42k took the rest. I'm happy with my decision to just do two tents. Going back and forth was stressing me out.
You wont be dissapointed with your purchase. Honestly i dont know to many people that were genuinely dissapointed....none as a matter of fact lol. I use to be an LED + HPS grower. And ignored all the cmh hype. Then i tried it. My first run failed when i realized i had my light to close and were much stronger than i thought. I raised my 630w up to 40" above canopy and had one of my best 5x5 tent runs ever. Quality far surpassed that i ever got with led.....it was that i got poor results with LED ..infact i saw very favorable results which is one of the reasons i refused to switch. But after a buddy of mine working for a rec facility had been preaching about these cmh lights. How diverse they were being used for veg and flower. How they never needed to move plants from one room to another. Simply add more fixtures when flipping to flower. Ever since i got my cmh runs dialed in....just the overall characteristic of the bud was was instantly more appealing. The resin actually left moist spots on my medical gloves i wear when working in the garden. The terpene profile was so....apparent. every hint and note and flavor was indentifiable without the need of cracking a bud. The texture is maybe one of the only down sides. Tends to create a tad bit more leafier structure. But none the less. The flavor is where is where i felt like i saw the biggest difference. I mean consistently run after run i was getting comments from my patients always saying how long the flavor stayed left over in there mouth after blowing out a hit. Again. With yields aside. I personally feel like CMH provides the best profile CONSISTENTLY from one strain to the next. Every light has proven to grow good weed. But this light seems to make any strain i try thrive and finish off superb

Is that a 630 Nanolux?

Do you prefer the DE 630 or 2 315's?
How bout that new 1K DE CMH Nanolux released? :hump:
I have only tested the dual bulb version. I havent ran the true DE 630 due to limited height growing in tents currently. But the 630w has a perfect footprint for 5x5 . Im recieving one of the new QB 288 - V2 135w to test out. Will be using as supplemental at first then will be used for test on how well they veg with clones and cuts

I have a 315 and boards and strips and cobs. The 315 is a fantastic light for a 3 x 3 tent and can produce a pound in that tent with the right strain. The biggest problem with the light is the clearance height. The fixtures are bigger than a board fixture (i have a vertical mount bulb fixture) and you need more clearance from tops to light.

I went with the other lights to fit them in a smaller space.

I find they all grow great weed. I would have to run a side by side with the same strain to be objective but so far its all been great. But that CMH seems to make they really frosty.

I think open space vrs tent and sealed vrs ventilated is a point to take up in the comparison: some open and ventilated spaces are hard to heat up to get to ideal led temps. As the CMH has some infrared (but not as much as HPS) they may be preferable to Qb320 in this case.

Edit: trying to remember if i allready made this point in this thread, if so sorry for double posting

The only thing I don’t like about my 315 is the odd 3x3 footprint. I’ve grown with several quality LEDs, every kinda bulb, and even induction and I can honestly say the 315w Philips 3100k gives me the best results (frost/taste) 1.5 gpw is easy with this bulb..

CMH do NOT put out any UV-B. If you believe they do, test them with a UV-B light meter. CMH produce small amounts of UV-A only. Stop spreading misinformation. If you actually want UV-B, buy an agroMax t5.

skip to the 38 min mark.

Buzzed but stopped around 54 min defussed light ? Wave length is a wave length regardless what it went though ?
I m from cars and bike two stroke bike and quads , have a very good understanding of heat removal ,air cooled finned heads to water cooled heads ect. I get sh_ Ted on but yeah my 1000watt s heater makes the same heat as my 1000watt chiller????????
When I'm clear I'll rewatch
