2nd Day of Flowering, Is This a Male?

LOL BKB! Nah, I'm still a newb too, but I've spent my 6months on RIU doing A LOT of reading...and I got lucky on my grows and didn't have major issues pop up. I've always been a reader (was a 'nerd' that graduated in the top ten, so now I'm doing my 'stoner' phase later in life) and learn pretty quickly. I'd be glad to help any way I can. If I don't know the answers, I can probably point you to the right grower/thread/links to find them!

@bear... Mandi knows her stuff, like she said, she can help you w/ pollinating. She claims to only be on her second grow but if you ask me, I think both grows were really entire fields she knows so much.

What a difference some decent soil makes! Looking so much better than the first try Green...can you get her any closer to the light safely? She's nice and healthy looking, but it may be stretching a bit on you.

no prob guys talk all you want, I'm getting the info I need. So to Green Growbot, I am not vegging I am in the flowering stage. When I did veg I did 24/0 then switched to 18/6 and used 6400k bulbs, now I am 12/12 flowering and using some 2700k's and a 6400k and a 5000k. I actually discovered another plant of mine is a female, so at least 2 outta 3 are females. Now my largest plant is the male outta the bunch which sucks. I don't see any hairs and its looking more and more like balls growing. Don't want to pollenate the females with the male, just gonna kill it if it is male :( just added another 2700k w/reflector and going for some panda film.

If you guys think those other pics I posted are male pics I'll post some tommorrow cuz its not looking any better...plant is freaking huge so this blows!

im in the middle of an online game so i dont have time to write something long but ill tell ya this... make hash outta the male dont just throw it away. Here is some recipes on how to make it. The ice way is the cheapest but Mandi has a good way too. If you ask her maybe she will explain it to you. Dont just waste it.

ok so tonight I took the plunge and based on my assumptions I removed the male plant :( he was my biggest but at least I have 2 females outta 3 plants. I'll post a couple pics, please reassure me that I didn't make a mistake by pulling this plant. Now that I've got the male removed how do I go about starting hash, I like the ice hash concept, do I just remove leaves and cut up stems and put in bag? def a first with making hash but not a first with smoking it :)

you done did good pulling him down, definitely a dude..

as for making hash, not sure if i saw it on here, but subcool has a youtube video out on how to make bubble.. pretty good video, but your going to need bubble bags to go that route.. i picked mine up from sprungbags.com i think it is for under $100 for the five bag five gallon set..

Ya it was a male. Lemme get my wife in here and she can explain how to do it. She made the stuff when I did my last plant.
He wanted to do Ice Hash. Dont cost but $20.

and I know my camera sucks and won't show real close up pics even using macro, but there were no hairs at all, just little balls popping up everywhere and I am talking everywhere especially towards top of plant, and I could pick them off. I'm going to miss that monster (was a little over 3ft)

well, now you know, usually, but not always, males tend to grow bigger and faster then females.. like i said, this isn't always true, but its usually a pretty good indicator of sex.. that and males tend to grow taller and less bushy, and females the opposite..

Basically you can hang dry and wait til tomorrow. You would want to cut everything as much as you want. You will need a blender, ice, paper coffee filter, and metal strainer (metal coffee filter) and then just follow the directions on the page if you are using the way i was talking about. Make sure you strain it SEVERAL times so that its NOT very green anymore. You are trying to get just the THC out of it.

Yeah bearhoney, you done good...it was most definitely a dude! It turned out some of my biggest and prettiest plants were boys too. I had a beautiful Blue Mystic that had 4 colas growing great guns - and then she turned out to be a 'he'. At least you have two girls left. My first grow, I had 5 out of 6 turn up males! Luckily, I had cloned the tops of them after topping for multiple colas, so I also had the top of the only girl to give me a second lady for buds. Have you taken cuttings for clones of your girls? It's an easy way to keep a perpetual grow without messing with seeds all the time...

On making hash from your male...I was not aware that it can be done. I'm under the impression that a plants trichs are what the hash is made from, the leaf trimmings being the main component. If you plan to make ice hash, I would look into things further to be sure you aren't wasting your time. A male may have some THC, but I don't think there will be anything near the level of what you'd get from the leaf trimmings of a flowered female. Of course, I could be wrong...has anyone made decent hash from a boy? If so, let us know...

Well you know we used my female to make hash last time but either way he will get great practice for next time when he finishes his female. Practice makes perfect.

Mandi- check out this "seed sexing" chart. I and a couple others I have talked to say this works. both myself and the others i talked to are getting results of about 4 outta 5 being correct, but then again, some males hve the volcano shape to them so hat 5th one could just be human error, not looking close enough. what do you think?

I dont remember how long you said you vegged for. It would be easier to say how long before you see flowers if i knew that and had some fresh pics. Me n mandi may be able to tell you what you can do (if anything)about th branches with some pics. is it still growing upwards? At some point they will stop getting taller and turn all of their energy to flowering (thats actually what Mandi told me on my first grow) Depending on the strain it may be a few weeks before you see anything. Also depending on the strain, it may not be supposed to grow that fat with lots of brances if its a Sativa dominant, more likely be tall and more thin than short n fa.
Again pics would help to determine when it should start to flower. Send a pic or 2 of both plants if u can.

The plant will usually do its stretch during the first two weeks after starting the 12/12 light schedule. By around the third week, you should see less gain in height and more bud development. It does depend on how long she was vegged, since the more mature she is when going into flowering, the more preflowers she will already be showing. Lots of preflowers will give her a jumpstart of sorts, and she will show more obvious buds faster. By the time you get two or three weeks in, you should be able to see plenty of buds all over wherever there is a junction of stem and leaf, and at the tips of all branches.

these plants were vegged for about 5 weeks. Heres some pics of the 2 that are left. Tons of white hairs popping up :) good to see and can't wait to see buds, wish I would've done this years ago
