I have a small 2 tent grow and i'm content with it but a friend of mine has a 24x24 space that he'd like to get going.
I'm not sure what would the best setup for such a size so I'm asking for some advice from you pros.

What would you setup if you could put anything in this room? How many lamps, watts, size scrubber, ac, fans etc.

Any replies are greatly appreciated, thanks! :leaf:

Upgrade the power to it would be first. Then I would dubble the room I have already. And will be doing that if I can save this house and get a windmill for free power. But it realy depends on how much power you can put to the room that will deside your lights and all that.

Warlock is absolutely correct, lots of fires get started due to growers overloading their circuits, I'm no expert but I believe that a standard outlet (one socket on top of the other) can handle 1100W, a average room typically has two so that would be 2200W. The best option would be to have a licensed electrician install a dedicated circuit that can handle what you need, however if you don't have the means for that then another option would be to use your dryer outlet and hook up one of the fixtures pictured below, found this on Craigslist, it can handle 2000-3000W, however unless you add an extra dryer outlet you can't run the dryer while the lights are on, still pretty cool though, check it out:

If you don't know how to do it yourself and hiring a electrician is out of the question! IMO so is filling a 24x24 room. Just in money wise alone. 1 dryer outlet can't handle that load. And most rooms shear breakers with other rooms.

That outlet will run enough lights to cover 8x8 of your room ... still got a lotta empty space to fill.

I definatly agree with above comments on making sure your electricity is in order beforehand.

a 24x24 room is not going to be cheap so if tou want some serious suggestions you should include some infor like...

soil/hydro
BUDGET!?!?! <--big one there
experience?
legal or not (this matters because legal growers have a limit as iligal grows are iligal anyways so it dosent matter) :)

i mean you could get as simple or advanced as you want, if he is looking for a pretty large scale operation i would suggest looking on craigslist for cheap HPS lights from factories, alot of times you can get 1k watt HPS for around 50-75 bucks each and that includes ballast and a reflective collar.

do you want a cloning room? veg room? perpetual? or just starting from seed and harvesting every 12-16 weeks. you guys need to sit down and figurre some of this stuff out prior to asking online what they would do. the more info you can give us on your plans the more logical and sensible help we can give you, i can dream up a $20,000 24x24 grow easily, i could also dream up a $2,000 grow

I think 20k would be on the low side of an estimate... no sense in cheaping out if your trying to do something that big/serious but like everyone said you're going to need some serious electrical work to make that happen and with that comes a serious electrical bill. My bill jumped about 150$/month when I added 4 1000w HPS so you're prolly looking at 600$/month increase

Split the room in half (save some room for veg). Put 4-1000s in each half. Run it as a flip. Easy as pie dude. You can do it!

Get a 100 amp panel installed and start amassing equipment and genetics.

Better have a few thousand set aside for rent/utility bills between now and harvest

Man I would be so happy if 4kw only cost 150/month.

With that kind of space, the first questions are totally... how much do you have to spend? Can you do electric work? how big are you comfortable with going? Then you can work from there.

I would say break the 24x24 down into several sections. Two flower rooms (ran on opposite 12/12 sched), A veg room, and a room to store equipment, trim, work. Unless your buddy is unemployed, more than 8k of flowering is going to be very overwhelming. When problems come up (and they will) the garden gets needy. It makes for a very unforgiving schedule... Powdery Mildew doesn't give a fuck if you have to work this Saturday.

for 20k i could have a pretty legitimate setup and money left over for power bill till harvest.

on a side note either this guy was just bored and posting some BS thread or he is getting together with his friend to fig out more details lol.

Thanks for all of the info guys. Money isn't that much of an issue I don't think, he didn't specify but I know he's doing well. Even so, we'd obviously like to try not to go overboard. The advice about the power outlet is great, i'm actually having an electrician help me in a few weeks with my own little power problems so it's possible to have him help with this, i'll have to discuss this with my buddy and the electrician. I'm thinking a hydro setup with 4 to 6 sections, maybe 1 for veg, 2 for flowering, 1 small for drying/curing and 1 for clones/mothers, another for supplies etc. P.S. He runs a hot tub all year round and already has a gigantic power bill, the hot tub will be killed off when we get all setup.

I really appreciate the help and I know he'll appreciate it 1000 times more hahaha. If ANYTHING else comes to mind, feel free to keep on posting.

Thanks again! :leaf:
