225 Gallon Smart Pot Super Soil

anyone have an opinion on how much super soil to use in a 225 gallon pot? im planning on planting next week with supplemental lighting so there needs to be enough juice to make it til october. what percentage of the pot should be super soil? should i mix it all together or put the hot on the bottom of the pot like the 10 gal indoor pots?

I don't know for sure but I would assume you would follow the same 50/50 rule. The concept is the same. The top soil is the buffer and the bottom is the food.

Just devils advocate. Wouldn't it be better to have several smaller pots or are you trying to grow a monster plant? Can you post a picture of that pot?

I imagine this would be the route to go as well.... same instructions, just on a much larger scale. Please post once you have it planted. Good Luck and All the Best!

the pictures above show perspective of the size of the pot. that is a ten gallon pot in the last picture. filling the smart pot is two full batches of super soil, with about 10 bags of plain roots on top. there will be one more of these pots containing used super soil re-amended with tom hills recipe of chicken manure, gypsum and bone meal. will post more pictures as they come in.

its not as tall as i was expecting, gorgeous dog, i have a female with identical markings and the same crop but darker blue.

good luck with your huge container! i cant wait to see what becomes of it.

this size pot comes with a standard height of 24", i asked the smart pot rep to have them cut down to 18". 18 " is perfect for oxygen levels, the key with a big pot is wide not tall.

thanks for the compliments on my best friend. hes not as dark because he has blue fawn characteristics. in fact in his two liters we had two pure fawns to go with 18, all blue, cow-patch.

So is the plan to try and grow one big plant or several smaller ones?

This is just my opinion, but I don't think that you have enough depth to have a tall plant, and if you did, it would get top heavy and topple, won't it? This seems to me a better use as a bed than a pot.

one plant in each container is the plan. 18" is fine to support a 15 # plant. it requires a lot of support in the form of cages, stakes and trelis. plus the pot itself is very heavy. words only go so far...
