2 week old grow light already dead?

I purchased a 250w MH system from HTG a couple weeks ago and the light will no longer stay on. I turned on the power this morning and the bulb briefly came on and turned back off right away 4 or 5 times. The Ballast seems to be running but the bulb will not stay lit. Bulb going bad or is the Ballast faulty?

I had that same problem, but i tried a different outlet and it started right up. Im not sure why it did that. Just get a long extension cord and try every outlet you can.

Yeah I tried every outlet in the house and the thing lights up and turns right back off in 20 seconds. Pain in the ass.

If you bought the HTG brand they have trouble with the bulbs, so chances are that is your problem, you should definitely order a bulb that isn't the HTG brand, if you want to keep things lit. If you want a cheaper bulb that will last go to HIDHUT, their bulbs do the job. Otherwise get a name brand from HTG.

Thanks la9, a friend tested his 250 watter in my system and it worked fine, you were absolutely correct.

Just trying to get the word out since everytime lights are brought up HTG gets mentioned in about 3 consecutive posts afterwards. They've had at least a 6 month track record of bulb failures when you buy their brand of lights that I know of. It was supposedly fixed a couple months back but from your post it looks otherwise.

If you buy an HTG light and it quits working within a month there is a 99% chance you have a bad bulb.
