normal bulbs never work.. incadescent bulbs waste more light and heat than any other bulb! heres wut you want, for vegetive growth: Flourescent Bulbs 3 or 4 - 23watt(100watt equivalent) at 6500K(daylight bulbs) AND 1 or 2 - 23watt(100watt equivalent) at 2700K(soft white) but Metal Halide Bulbs are optimum for vegetive growth. Vegetive growth requires the blue/purple colors in the spectrum of light to promote healthy and new root, stem and leaf growth.
Flowering Growth: If using flouro's again then use the oppisite of the veg light system. Use 3 or 4 - 23watt(100watt equivalent) at 2700K(soft white) AND 1 or 2 - 23watt(100watt equivalent) at 6500K(Daylight) although High Pressure Sodium Bulbs are best for flowering growth. For flower growth the plant will require the red/orange color of the light spectrum which promotes new root and flower(bud) development.
experiment and have fun just keep your paws off the incadescents! they are useless as are blacklights and plant grow bulbs!
