1st timer curing blues

My plants started drying out and looking prematurely old after only approximately 45 days of blooming. It's my first time so I pulled them in an attempt to salvage them--but they were not flushed out. Now after a month of curing in tupperware and sealable jars, it still smells crappy and tastes bitter.

1) Why might they have dried out too soon?

2) Without flushing first, is my weed no ruined?

3) Anything I can do?

Thanks

I don't know what you might have done maybe if you explain how you fed and what type of system you are using it would help. If leaves started turning yellow and looking like drying up sounds like you over fed them big time.

They sound over fertilized and you want to make sure the stems snap when you bend them thats when its dry enough to contain in jar or whatever also you want to open from time to time to allow it to off gas...

Ya man, you should open the jars atleast once a day twice if u can and air it out. I even heard of taking every bud out and refilling the jar to sort of air it out. If your getting annoyed with curing maybe try drying with decissant to get them bone crispy, the smoke is good.

Hey all I harvested my junk a week ago. Just wondering if its supposed to stink like skunkey, sour, naturey shit. The smell is really far removed from the smell of ready to smoke bud, exept when you go up close and sniff. HOW COME NO ONE WARNED ME HOW BAD THIS WOULD STINK!

sounds like the smell may due to both an early cut AND lack of flush. Your smell MAY never come back, but, maybe its just slow.

What do you mean by drying out and looking old by 45 days? Sounds to me like you may have seen some bronzing and cut thinking it was harvest?

1. maybe just had a dryer 'look' to the plants? My first bagseed grow the buds had a very moist look and feel to them, my blackjacks are the opposite, in fact almost dry looking and feeling, and quite bronzed on lower buds. BUT they are still not ready! So i would recommend not doing that early chop next time =D
2. It may taste, smell, and smoke like shit, but if it gets you high, fuck id smoke it.... in fact my bagseed grow came out like that, even with some mold. trimmed off the bad stuff, smoked that shit up!
3. iam not too sure but maybe its not too late for a water cure? i mean i dont know if it will have the same effect as if you started your cure with it, might need some pros to chime in on that one.

Best of luck!

Hey Bubba, I have the same problem. If you don't mind, I am going to hang around here and see what kind of other answers you might get O.K? I feel I should not start another thread on the same subject.

I was given some buds from a friend, so I do not really know how they were grown. I do know they are sativas grown outdoors.

I hung them in a dark closet in my air conditioned house for a week, put them in a brown paper bag for four days, everything was going fine until I put them in a jar.

About 5 hours later I opened the jar to let them breathe a little and wholy shit! I really connot describe the smell. I am going to say that it smells like--- old, soured, days old, brewed tea with the bags still left in the pitcher.

Did not mean to hijack your thread Bubba. Just hoping you might get some more answers.
Peace and Regards Man.

you just put them in whilst being too moist, and acrid ammonia like smell means decaying organic matter. it also could be from an incomplete flush cycle before harvest

Could just be the natural curing process and the gases airing out. My jars reek when I open them...not entirely bad but I know that's the stuff I want out which is why I am opening the jars...

yes but it is possible that if you have reached the pint of that smell when you open your jars, it may have been too long and a process of decay has started, just open the jar sooner, it wont noticeably affect potency as long as you correct it at a very early stage.

OK, S.H. Thanks for responding, I guess I will just keep taking it out of the jar every once in a while and see if it ever stops stinking.
Thanks again.

So what exactly does a moldy bud smell and look like??? Maybe Ive been smoking moldy buds as a noob? Isnt there a bud mold sticky. Theres a budworm sticky and a bud rot sticky but no bud mold.

bud rot is for live plants with botrytis(bud rot). mold grows on drying or jarred bud when there is too much moisture/humidity in the environment it is placed. bud mold can smell acrid/rotten and pretty much just moldy and is clearly visible(unless it is rotting/moulding from the inside out) so you need not rely on your sense of smell for a common bud mold. there are probably plenty of different smells for all the diff types of molds so i could not give u a solid lists of smells for detecting it. it just smells mouldy lol :-P

I know everyone wants to kind of beat around the bush here and tell him one of the dozens of possible ways that your weed can smell like shit but the bottom line is you clearly harvested way to early...45 days is not done no matter the strain or conditions.

i dont generally enjoy "beating around the bush" or "sugar coating" things, i guess i just didnt pay attention to that fact. if i had, i would have said that your bud doesnt smell because the buds characteristics werent done fully developing when you chopped.
