UPDATES. whoop.
Day 12 (4/17/2011)
one of the fem iced grapefruit died, because i forgot to keep the rapid rooter moist... so yeah fucked that up. managed to save the other one. i put it back in the rapid rooter and decide to not transplant it till i see some major rootage. the other two seeds are more reggie bagseed, which we will probably kill off before they get out of the tray.
femicedgrapefruit on the left

running 24/0 atm
rootage on the femicedgrapefruit
so we did a lot in our closet in the past couple of days

we hung the hps light, finished connecting the ducting, and got the timer working with the light. not sure if i need to hang the mylar, the matte white looks good for now.

since we are just playing around with the bagseed reggie, we decided to start flowering them as of two days ago 4/15/2011.
i think they are showing signs of sex? i could be totally wrong though. looks female to me

in the future, just leave it in the plug till the roots start sprouting out of the side of it....

Its fine. like the above said, its not rocket science.
thanks man. i am seeing roots now, but i just want to keep it growing until i see some major root balls. i think im going to build a mini dwc system so i can encourage faster root growth

Thanks for stopping by in my grow. Your setup is exactly what I want here in a couple months. Anyways I'm sub'd. Can't really help you with too much since I'm a newbie but I'm here along for the ride. Looking forward to see what your setup can produce.
haha im pretty excited getting this started. long time user, first time producer :)

All I am going to say is this: no marijuana plant in the world is subject to 24 hours of natural light. 24/7 light is a waste of electricity. Google photosynthesis rates and circadian rythem if you don't believe me.

Other than that, looks good. In general, plants like to be left the hell alone unless something is amiss.

Funny you should say that. I've always run at 24/0, but JUST TONIGHT about 4 hours ago switched to a 20/4 schedule due to the recent heat in my area. Mid 90's this week, and only high 60's in the middle of the night.
I've always found them to grow fastest at a 24/0 schedule, but since I figured 20/4 wouldn't hurt, and would help A LOT with the heat. It was almost 11PM and it was still 90 F in my grow room.

Anyway Closet, I can't stress enough to you how important it is that you remember to check on them regularly. :-P
They're very fragile at this stage, and VERY important, when you pull the plugs out, don't pull by the stem, pinch the sponge and pull. Play with the reggies, but just be careful that a male doesn't get involved. And of course, another piece of good advice is this; Don't ever bring anything into your grow room from outside that hasn't been washed first. And I'm NOT talking about a jug of water or something, I mean anything that could have a bug about the size of this dot >>>>. (IE; Spider Mites, Thrips, Ect.) :-P
No sticks, no wood, ect, ect, ect. You know.

But I still believe that growing the remainder of your grapefruit until it's about 30/40 days old, then clone the hell out of it. If you WANT, you can leave a few leaves on, and clip away a decent amount of the stem, it should be able to keep vegging and you'll be able to take more clones after it recovers. I however know little of keeping mother plants, as I've never had a need to take so many clones before, so if you find a better method of taking a good number of clones while keeping the other alive, by all means.
Once you have your clones (research cloning methods, you already have the T5 and the rapid rooter plugs. So it won't be hard, you just need the humidome) then you'll be able to start your crop. With 15-20 new clones, you can get them started in grow bags (bags used as growing pot) and soil by waiting for roots in the rooting sponge, and planting it in the soil (Fox Farms Ocean Forest, available at most hydro stores, or online. Veg them for about a 30-40 days under a MH (I recommend you keep your T5 in use for your mothers, whom will be the basis for your NEXT crop) bulb running in the main grow room. Once then, when they've reached about half to a little over half of the total size you want from them, flower them. You'll know when it's ready, but you can go to the https://www.rollitup.org/harvesting-curing/328642-want-know-if-your-plants.html thread. Instead of doing the SOG, or ScrOG method. Simply due to the simplicity of the way I just suggested.

1. Veg Grapefruit for approx 45 days, but you decide.
2. Take Clones from said Grapefruit 15x or so. (Keep it small at first, you'll still end up with like a pound. :-P)
3. Let Clones Root
4. Plant Clones in Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil in potting bags. (soil bags with a single folded sheet or newspaper to allow for drainage, but doesn't let too much soil fall through the drainage holes) (Plant10-13x or so, or however many will fit comfortably you take 15 so you can keep 2 as mothers to replace the first 2 you cut up into 15 clones)
5. Veg for 1 to 1½ months with a MH bulb in your HID lamp. Using your T5 as a light for your mothers. (who will propagate the next generations crop and are not going in the primary grow area) Fertilize ALL plants as needed.
6. Once they've reached half, to a little more then half of the total size you want them to reach, switch the bulb to HPS, and put it on a timer, making the lights 12 hours on, and 12 hours off. Fertilize as needed.
7. Let it grow until the buds are big, the hairs are (mostly) red, and you believe it looks ready. Check with RIU, since a lot of us do when it's almost ready.
8. Dry and Cure for approx 1 month.(Cure is VERY important to a the smell, taste, high, and preservation of large harvests. Otherwise it will dry out, and/or mold.
9 Enjoy, and try some new tricks on your next crop, and take pride in knowing you just grew your first successful crop!!!

Sorry for the double instructions, but I truly believe we set you up with a to complex plan. This is far simpler, and will give you 5-6 months to learn everything you need to utilize all the equipment and potential that exists within your grow room setup, and size.

If YOU, or ANYONE doesn't agree, feel free to say so. If your interested in doing it your own way, then you should. But I promise you this, if you follow this SIMPLE plan, and learn basic nutrients (so you can fertilize properly and help them along for your first grow) then you will have a VERY large harvest and a lot of weed to do with as you please. It's a very simple plan, and simple works best. And it's an easy way, to grow a lot of herb (that you can be proud of) in a short span of time, and once you have those clones, you'll be ready with good genetics whenever you want to start another grow...Now to mention the fact that you can trade clones to get different, and even better genetics.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, good luck! And please, anyone feel free to point out any flaws in my concept idea here.

The more anal you are with hygiene the better. Pick up all dead leaves, always azamax and quarantine outside clones and always change your clothes when you have visited another grow op. Especially if you wear dark clothes. Fungus gnats love black

Update?

And I do honestly think the new plan would be better. ScrOG is ambitions, and i'm sure your capable, but I was thinking about what I would do with your equip and space. :-P
I do highly recommend you experiment on your bagseed, topping, lsting fimming, pruning, different nute combo's, ect...but record the results of your experiments if your working with different nute combo's, see what gets the best results.

You shouldn't really even be flowering your bagseed...your just wasting electricity really, best to keep them in veg and play with em. The good stuff is what you wanna be growing out to term. But it's of course your choice.

I just think it's best to get 1 grow under your belt before doing advanced cultivation techniques such SOG and ScrOG, it's hard to do that, and there's A LOT more that could go wrong. Learn the basics through experience. Reading about it all, and making it happen yourself are 2 very different experiences.
Good luck man, seriously. I'm hoping this works out great for you. I'm subbed, so let me know what you think.

Sorry guys,
I'll be doing a complete update later today... I'll give you guys a full video with all the new updates and a overview of the new plan.

Cool. I'm actually kind of lost as to what is what and how old, how many, etc, etc. I disagree that scrog is difficult. It really is an ideal system for maximizing yield and getting the most from each plant. Maybe throw a screen over one plant and see how you do/ how you like it. You can make one for about $15 with PVC pipe and wire.

Not that it's DIFFICULT persay, but it's def good to have a grow under your belt before you decide to dive into advanced techniques. ;-)

(ill fix the formatting later)

hope you guys had a good 420! this is what my day was filled with

we changed things quiet a bit. so after doing a bunch of research in lights i found out the best option we have is a 12/12 from seed method. we stuck the t5 in the room and kept it on the seedlings side. The blue spectrum reaches the bigger plants and the seedlings very well. anyone here tried 12/12 from seed before? i have heard rave reviews about it and it allows me to keep everything in one room.

They're going to start pulling toward the light, if you could hang the light it would be A LOT better.

Lemme ask you about those reggies, did you REALLY ENJOY the smoke it was grown from? Or was it just...ok?
And you can prob grow out your bagseeds while you wait for the sproutlings to get big enough to take clones from, and by the time your ready to start your serious crop with all the iced grapefruit plants, you should be harvesting your bagseeds.

Hang that T5, other then that, it looks great. Keep it up man, and i'll have my eye on everything. ANY QUESTIONS feel free to PM me!

no idea how the reggie smoked to be honest lol.

we hung the t5 as per your suggestion. thanks for keeping an eye man mucho appreciation,.

anyone have any thoughts on the 12/12 technique?

The temp in the grow room was 81 degrees.

Your welcome bro. And as for nutes, only water the YOUNGlings with 1/4 nutes IF ANY. They're very sensitive right now, and too much nutrients will kill them. Just be careful.

Also make sure your pH is properly balanced before adding the nutes. I use both the drops (to measure the pH of my water before, and after adding nutes, then adjusting pH to the proper levels (in the mid 6's are good) and a pH meter for my soil (roots can't intake nutrients at too high, or too low of a pH, and it causes Nute lock) to ensure my soil is at the same levels.
If the soil pH levels are to high or to low, you can adjust it by either leeching the soil (flushing the soil with properly pHed water @ 3-4x times the normal watering amount )Which should saturate and wash all the soil clean and normalize the pH, this is the best way I know of, you can also water with water pHed at the opposite pH from what your soil is at. Although a good leeching (flushing) is always recommended.

Your doing good so far. If you can, since your running both lights and all plants together, try to arrange the lights to that both lights are on all plants (side by side, or something to that effect). That way all plants are getting a FULL light spectrum, which closer mimics the sun. Remember, your trying to provide for the plant the same way nature does. And mimicking the sun isn't an easy task :-P.
But the more light in each plant the better. Keep it up man, and remember, the room is evolving, and constantly improving, keep up the good work and remember, pH. ;-) Nutes have a habit of dropping the waters pH significantly.

My last bit of advice is this, touch and play with your plants as little as possible, try to put an Oscillating fan on the plants, so they're not getting blown on DIRECTLY, but so they get blown around a little bit. It will strengthen the stems and make sure they can support the buds they'll develop. ;-)
I see the empty water bottle in the trash can in there, I recommend you get a jug (or at worst, some gallons of WATER ((NOT MILK JUGS)) at the store and refill them with water from machines in from of super markets. It's cheap and Reverse Osmosis. Bottled waters of that type tend to have minerals added that build up in the soil and can cause problems.
And lastly, get that trash can out of your grow area. ;-) Never good to keep trash in your grow room, especially when your using a closet, keep the room as CLEAN as possible.

Sorry if i'm preachy, as I said when you started the journal...I just wanna help you use your equipment to it's fullest, and help you grow the biggest best buds you can.

btw, fyi, I'm personally experimenting with DIY Co2 generation, stupidly simple and very effective, especially if your temps keep hovering around 85°. (not saying yours are...mine are :-P) You should look it up if your interested.

damn! thats fuckin sooo much. i hope i can pull that too. im unsure if the t5 is helping with my 1000 hps. im hoping to get the dual spectrum effect since my t5 does a blue light and my hps is yellow.

AHH! i forgot to turn down the nutes. i watered them with half strength. i hope they dont die. :/

next time ill water them with aweaker strength.
i ph the water using lemon juice

but i had no idea about flushing for inaccurate ph. ill have to jot that down.

the tower fan i have does oscillate. its really nice and compact and has a wide range of breeze. i am trying to get some old pc fans to work. its kind of a pain since they are all 3 pin fans.

we went to our local grocery store and got a bunch of 1 gallon water jugs. (drinking water)
and kept them. so we can go back and refill that. just have to get up and refill them... lol.

i look at it as teaching instead of preaching! i am a student of this beautiful plant. i think it would take multiple lifetimes to fully master it.

i saw that DIY actually. but i heard if the ppms arent exact, its a waste. not sure though. what do you think of that?

Day 21 (4/26/2011)

things i did today
i watered the other two bag seed reggie with canna coco (a+b). the pots were very light.
cleaned up the general area.
threw out second male :/
the other two bag seed look like female though! tried takng a picture. fail to the max.
/wants a macro cam.

general updates

i am really happy with the t5 light placement.

Yeah, looks good. T5 is fine where it is. And from what I can see it isn't developing male parts, so seems like a female. If you have a camera, try using the "Close-Up" setting, once I figure that out on mine, I was taking brilliant pics. It's the only way I photograph my plants. Another thing to remember with seedlings is that their roots don't extend very deep, so keep in mind how dry to top is.

And the DIY co2, as far as I know, works fine. It's not putting the plant at maximum co2 amount, you have a very enclosed space, so I'm not as sure about that, but as far as I know, you simply put them under the plants and let them do their thing. If breathing around them helps, then why wouldn't a co2 generator? As long as your not putting out TOO MUCH, I wouldn't assume it couldn't hurt at all. And for how cheap they are to make, there's not a lot of reason not to in my opinion.
Keep in mind, a co2 generator can be as simple as drilling a hole in the top of a water bottle and adding water, sugar, and yeast Yeast is available at almost any grocery store in the baking section for under 1.00. If it can't hurt, and it's not like your breaking the bank trying something that didn't work...then WHY NOT....At least...that's how I look at it.

i tried using the macro mode, but its just a point and shoot. so its macro abilities are shiiiiiittty. ill try and take a better pic tomorrow. i think i have another male :/ not 100% though.

yeah i was spraying them with distilled water so the top of the RR was still moist. the roots that were extending from the RR were pretty long ( about 4 inches).

i didnt realize it was THAT cheap to make one. as soon as i finish the 2 litier coke thats in the firdge, im going to add some co2 with an airline and cut holes in the lining. my temp with the light on is about 84. but if i have co2. i cant use my fan. correct?

Yes, you can, you simply put the Co2 directly beneath the plants and that's it. I'm not PROMISING results, i'm simply relaying what i've read. Fans actually help circulate co2 for the plants. But i'm not 100% if that applies fully with a generator. All you can do is try with and without and see if you notice a difference. I personally don't have time for all that, i'm just gonna go with it and hope for the best. ;-)

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUU

Another one of those reggie baseed turns out to be a male. its also the largest of the bagseed. oh well. the other four seedlings look really healthy though.
