1500 Watt HPS - 137 Lumens/Watt !!

...Yes, a successful prototypic electronic ballast. And efficient too at 137.3 lumens/watt.

There was an ad for it at a local hydro store and I saw that it was fairly new. There's only one thread about it on RIO and it's buried in the wrong sub-forum.

The Facts

1500 watts. Electronic ballast. 206,000 lumens. It's called the "Master Blaster" (Sun System) by Sunlight Supply (it's not listed on their website yet), the same people who make the Galaxy/Lumatek electronic ballasts. It's still technically in its 'beta' form, but it supposedly exceeded all expectations when it was first tested. It's pricey though, about $500 for the ballast. You will also probably need an aircooled reflector. Oh, and of course it can only be run off 240 VAC.

This guy got a hold of one and said its spread easily covered a 10 ft x10 ft space. He also claims it was a whiter light and his plants flower better under it. Additionally, his ballast stayed cooler than his 1000 watt one.

Yes, 1500 watt lamps have been around, but this is an electronic ballast and most important it's efficient. You could get some serious light to the lower flowers using one of these things. What's next, a 2000 watt HPS?

Anyone see/use/get your hands on one before? Obviously it wouldn't be for your closet grow...

I'd think that all the intensity of the light would be so much for the plants that the bulb would need to be pretty far away for safety, my plants started bleaching on top from my 1000w lights, I cant imagine what the extra 500w would do. You lose half your lumens every foot so i dunno, I figure my 1000w in cooltubes can be put much closer to the plants tops and hence give them much more light know what im sayin

Sounds like a killer light, but might be a little too much for most inside grows. Personally, I'd rather have two 600's, pushing 210,000 lumens with 300 less watts. I do like the idea of the better spectrum though, as I believe the HPS's could definitely use some more blue(even the enhanced bulbs). I've been looking at the dual-spectrum bulbs, and would like to give them a try someday. Too bad they're a little expensive right ATM, so I'll have to wait. Damn.lol

That should be an awesome light for big operations.

Which company manufactures the galaxy/lumatek ballasts?
