1000w without air cooling?

Got a Lumatek 1000w non dimmable (ever had lumatek non-dim one at 1k?) I plan to use my 6" inch ducting on both side of my hood, plan to have one side take air from outside my house-goin into my room-into the hood- and one side put the hot air to the attic, buying two cheap fan boosters that are for 6" ducting, MY hood also came with glass but i want to take it off for now (does this make the air cooling useless?), because it blocks lumens... but i can't get the fans right away my ladies are into flower right now... can i run my 1k watt lumatek and hortilux bulb without the glass and it wont get hot and explode? im new to this and worried about shit like that... very paranoid how will i know if its getting too hot? i want to use it a week without the fans/ducting... sorry for ALL the questions but try to address them all :) :weed:

at the end... i meant to say can i use the 1000watt lumatek/hortliux without fans/ducting and without the glass, so just the hood and the bulb, without it exploding in too much heat? how can i know!

yes you can use it without glass and cooling, but that heat is gonna make your room very hot that is why aircooling lights is used. it also lets you put the bulb closer to plants without heat damage to plants. there are people doing vertical with no cooling and 1000w

so the bulb is strong as fuck? like 100+ degrees it can take without cooling (just for now, but in general?)

I was worried about heat like yourself, but the only way to know for sure is to just do it and take temp readings as close as possible to the tops of the plants, if it goes above 90F over few hours then it's time for plan B.

The best wY to learn is to try this is true. But I wouldn't dare try to run 1k without proper ventilation. The two booster fans are what 6"? Your prob gonna move about 300cfm and that's not going to be enough. I'm not telling you not to do it I'm just telling you what to look for. Btw I've never seen anybody run a vertical withought proper ventilation. Also why remove the glass? Your talking lumens when that's not what matters to the plants. Lumens are for humans spectrum is for plants. If you try this goodluck to you it's gonna get hot in there. What is your grow settup? And how many plants dO u have?

You will have 2 problems. The first is that you are venting the heat generated by the bulb directly into your room. With a 1000w bulb that heat is going to add up. Without active air conditioning you may have a problem. If that is not an issue, the second will be the extra local heat generated by the bulb. Since it is not being drawn away via ducting.

So get yourself a fan, oscillating preferred, point it right under the light above the plants. That should help disperse the heat so at least they are getting direct burn. Now you just need a good light position. 2+ feet away and you'll be fine for sure. I wouldn't get any closer than 18 inches without active ducting and glass on that hood.

The glass really doesn't affect light output much that I have noticed. The heat will kill your plants though. You might even think about simply hooking up the ducting (without active fans), and putting the glass in. That hot air is going to move on its own at least somewhat.

And no your bulb isn't going to explode because it doesn't have active air blowing over it. Think of all those parking lots with HPS/MH 1000W lights, those things aren't air cooled. They don't need to be, the heat they generate is already 25 feet off the ground and outside!

THANKS Tophead, some goodass info there... i planned to have a big fan directly pushin the bulb, so for now a week MAX ill be using just the HOOD/ballast without the glass.... fuck i really wish i got that dimmable one, i'd be blazing it 600w without paranoya, but i got what i got, hope it'll work out... THANKS~


EDIT: damn i just turned it on the first time... and it gives off like a green lighting reflected off my red walls, is this right? lol also i turned it off after 15 seconds and the BULB is HOT AS FUCK.... takes 30 mins+ to warm up i hear, so it'll be fine huh???

I use 1k no cooling, keep it high enough your hand doesn't get too hot at canopy level.
No worries about your bulb, been using mine uncooled forever lol.
Just watch the height and your fine.

98% of the mass of the plant is drawn from the CO2 in the air. so proper air flow will maximize the usefulness of that light. I would invest in a good inline fan as soon as is reasonable and have it draw the heat out and away from the grow room and evacuate it into another area, into the attic would be great, this strong pull of air out of the room will create negative pressure thus drawing air in from around the door and other such entry points, this will not only keep your temp problems under control it will also increase the yield by giving access to more CO2. In my country it is 105 in the day and 94 at night. So heat is a problem I have had to overcome.

yes you can run the bulbs without any cooling and the bulb will be fine. my friend runs them in lumewings and cools his room with a 1 ton a/c for 3k watts. the only thing you need to worry about is cooling the room itself because the bulb puts out rediculous heat. that is the reason you have air cooled hoods is to keep the heat from the bulb from entering your room, not to keep the bulb from exploding lol.
