1000W HPS or 600W HPS for my new 5'X5'X7' Gorilla Grow Tent?

What up people! I just bought a new 5x5x7 grow tent. It's made by Gorilla, and was a HighTimes STASH Award winner. It is a pretty heavy duty tent. All metal poles that claim to hold up to 300lb. They also say it has the thickest tent material on the market! Gorilla is a new company and since I was one of the first to order, I received a free expansion kit. This enables me to expand it from 7' high to 8' high. I also received a free IR shield for the roof of the tent. So my question is what size light would be best for this tent set up? 1000W HPS or 600W HPS? Is 1000W overkill in this setup? I'm new to HPS. I have been using LED for the last couple year with ok results. Now I am ready to step it up to HPS but not sure which is best for my situation. I'm looking to continue to use my led in my other cabinet for veg and the tent for flower with HPS. Any suggestions and advice for this Newbie to HPS is greatly appreciated!

I think the size is perfect for a 600W

tho you can easily run a 1K Im sure ..

nomather what get one with a cool hood .. and a good 6" or 8" vent and a filter to fit ..
they get pretty hot .. also why a 600W might be better .. use the "safed" money on a nice kit with a digital ballast .. maybe one that can run boath MH and HPS but most importent .. one with a cool hood or tube ..

a 600W is as effectiv at 12" as a 1000W at 15 inch`s away ..

I ran Magnum XXXL hood with 1000 watt quantum ballast and digilux bulbs in my last set up and dont have a complain with any of the equipment. Like Slipon said you can go with either in that set up... I prefer go big or go home so my vote is 1000W but its all up to you and how big you plan on letting your ladies get.

p.s.

it also depense on how many plants and how long Veg time you plan on ..

4 big plants with a 600W would work perfect .. plenty of space .. tho could squeeze in 9 with a 1000W Im sure ..

Thats what I would do and those XXXL hoods give you a 5' x 5' light foot print or so they say.. I run two 1000W's with Raptor Air Cooled hoods in a 10' x 10' room.. Just make sure you have a strong fan to pull the hot air out of your hoods and if you plan on running co2 you are going to have to pull air outside your tent or from another room.

I like your style beaver! I was looking into the 8'' Raptors before I went with the 336X-Pro LEDS... hoping theyll be able to cover a good 4x4 area giving me a lil wiggle room in my 9x5. I was looking to 8'' for the reason you said... strong fan for better cooling of the hot bulbs.

I'm like you bigger = better you will get different responses from 600W guys. They will argue 600W give you more " gram per watt" but I like the idea of more lumen output. To each their own.

1000 watt. Go big to grow big. Check Rosenthal's book for recommended lamps for that exact space - 5' X 5'. 2 400-watt minimum to grow anything other than straight indicas which do not exist. I use a 1000 watt HPS.

Run with the big dogs or pee like puppy. Don't be scared.

My credit card balance tells me maybe I went a little too big!!

Yes, mine arrived a couple days ago. Gonna be a couple weeks before i have it up and running though! Still gotta buy a Light System and another atmospheric controller, and a fan and carbon filter. It's all good though, i got time since i still need to germ some seeds and veg for awhile.

if you plan to use up all of that space (4x4-5x5) then get the 1,000.
If you need room for equip, nutes, etc, and only plan to use 3x3-4x4, you can get away with a 600.

600 will be easier on temps and easier on the bill.
But if you can control temps on the 1,000 you should get more buds

if supplementing with led u can get away with the 600. You gotta get an air cooled hood regardless and a cheap duct fan from home depot to suck that hot air out. you can keep those air cooled hoods very close to ur plants...almost touching them to be honest. i have 3 4x4 tents so i can probably offer up alot of help if u have more questions. i pull 400-500 grm per tent with 1000k and 12 ladies

I run two 600 watt HPS lights in a 4x8 tent and like that I have two light sources to more evenly spread the light. I would just recommend that you have good air circulation and temperature control. You should get a good yield with either a 600w or 1K, I would just emphasis the importance of proper air circulation.

Cheers
