10 seeds in a glass of water

So three months ago i decided to grow, i thought i would have some weed by now, but little did i realise it would take 3 months to research, save and buy my setup. The last few pieces finally arrived (fuck buying from china next time i pay the extra and get it inside the month) and I am finally ready to start, so I have put 10 White Widow seeds in a glass of water - but what next, I want to use best practices but I have read so much stuff. So I have a few noob questions I need answered/debated .

- Should i leave them in the water til they sprout a taproot or plant into rockwool after 24hrs?
- Should I soak my rockwool cubes in plain water, nutrients or buffered solution?
- How will I know they are ready to move to my ebb flow setup?

:dunce: Thanks for any advice

10 thats a lot for the first grow.

what i did was i threw my seeds in some warm water, just to get them started, as i was preparing my soil. then as soon as i was done, i put them into the soil (they didnt even sink yet, they were probably in the water for 30 min to an hr)

i just push them into the soil until they are parallel with the top of the soil. then i sprinkly some soil over them, and push down on them lightly, and then mist the soil with warm water, like twice a day

with this method they broke the ground in 3 days. the taproot was also about 1-2 inches long by the time they broke soil (yes, i disturbed one plant to check)

1. Wait till a taproot appears than transplant them in to Rockwool..
2. The rockwool needs to be soaked in low pH'd water, around 5.5, until the runoff water from the rockwool is around 6.0..
3. The only nutrients that seedlings should be given is nutrients that are formulated for seedlings or small points, if your nutrients have measurements that are for seedlings, than cut in half at least.. I.e. if it says "For seedlings mix 15ml of nutrient solution per gallon of water.. Than only mix 7.5 ml per gallon, or even 5 ml per gallon..

Hope this helped.. If you have any other questions just post and i'll check back later

Also go get so very good seed starting BIO-nutrients so that means living organisiums in it, comes in a powder dont breath it! the products are Piranha and Taranchula add very little to water helps the plant life in the seed come to life. good luck

you dont need any nutes till they ask for it.

i mix my soil with a soil starter, which is composted manure, bone meal, feather meal and pot ash.

then i feed 4-5 weeks later with fish emulsion.

I use a soiless mix.. And feed my seedlings nutrients from when they get there first true leaves.. If your soil doesn't have any amendments you need nutes, maybe not right away.. But, it definitley helps them grow at a faster rate..

i like to plant seeds in soil and stick the pots on a heat mat. fool proof. but as long as you understand what makes em pop you'll be ok. warmth and moisture are your best friends.

I stick mine straight into coco coir, sit on a heating pad on leave in the dark. Yesterday I put in 3 seeds:
(1) John Sinclair Viper Indica (It's up!)
(2) Ceres seeds White Indica, and
(3) Ceres seeds Northern Lights X Skunk (a gift for a friend).

Usually within 72 hours everyone is up. At that point I put them under flourescent light. Couldn't get easier. Everytime when I tried any other germination system I've ruined the seeds! The less you handle a sprouting seed the better for the seed in my, very limited, experience.

you keep speaking of soil and he is clearly using ebb n flow system which is hydro and a whole different ball game, plain water has no available nutrients so he needs to supliment them with something after the first week.

so yeah, you probabally want to let them soak in the water untill they fall to the bottom, then either into the rockwool that has been soaking in a PH balanced solution or into a paper towel untill they sprout tap roots. if you go with paper towel wait for the tap root to get about1/2 inch long then put into rockwool cubes.

Clonex solution is a good solution for seedlings it inhibits root growts and is mild on fertilizers so it wont burn plants.

soak your rockwool cubes in a ph balanced solution wil about 10 ml of clonex per galon should be gtg.

you will know they are ready to go into the net pots when you see roots growing out of the rockwool.

hope this helps.

and + rep for doing research for 3 months and investing in the right equipment. dont see much of that around here these days just a bunch of dipshits growing in driveways sand with 2 13w CFL's

Thanks for the tips guys, I live in australia with average temp lately 30oC (86oF) do you think i need a heat pad? I know 10 seeds seems like a lot but with my luck half will be male, I intend to end up with 4 mothers which i will then clone, need a second tent so i can have 1 veg 1 flower tent and have fresh buds every month, but this is too far ahead, my seeds have not even sunk yet and I have learnt to keep my expectation low to avoid dissapointment, but a pound or two a month of decent smoko mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

nah. i didnt use a heat pad this time around, and they broke ground in 3 days for me. i just misted with warm water instead of cool water.

anything above 70 is good

yeah a heating pad is only for when temps are cool and you need a little help. if its already nice and warm then they should be fine. setting them out in the sun during the day in a light proof and airtight container will keep nice humidity levels and warmth.

i think 2 lbs a month is a bit stretching it for a first time grower but im sure you can get there if you keep at it. Its a fun but sometimes extremely frustrating hobby, but verry rewarding in the end.

lets hear some details on the equipment you bought, i realize you prob bought a ebb n flow system which probably cost you a fair amount. what did you get for lighting and tents?

I have a seahawk mylar tent 1mx1mx2m, 90cmx90cm ebb/flow table and stand, Canna nuts, pump pipe connectores etc, 4 x CFLs (2x30watt cool white, 2x48watt warm white) and lamp cords, 2 x timers (1 digital, 1 anologue), rockwool, propagation dome, TDS meter, PH meter and a MH 400watts on order for flowering, I think thats it, still need ventilation and a bucket of Ona but they dont sell Ona in australia so i am trying to find somewhere to import it from. Am I missing anything (probably heaps) - and I am expecting approx a pound, but i really hoping for 2.

lets see it man, just dont mess up the soil compositon or biota too badly (so i guess if youre doing hyrdo that means maintain homeostatis of soil nutes at all costs) and youll be good.

oh and dont drop something on one and decapitate it like i did

I will take some photos when i have finished setting it all up, probably tomorrow, just went to install the lights to find my awesome find of 48 watt CFLs are screw ins and i need bayonet, and my propagating tray has a big crack in it, so off to the hardware store again tomorrow.
