IMG_4157.jpg Here you will see the PPM of my tap water with sanitized/washed/rinsed hydroton in it: 104

My process: Rinse, Hygrozyme soak (24hr), rinse, Clearex soak, rinse, H202 soak (1-24hr), RINSE...... RE-USE. but never again as you can see these lil fuckn pellets will forever harbor some amount of solution, and the PH is never the same! My enzyme product is super ACID!!!!!!!! after a soak of any length in that its never the same.

A 50LTR BAG COST ABOUT 35$, GET RID OF A SACK YOU JUST GREW AND GO GET SOME NEW, CLEAN, PH NEUTRAL MEDIUM.

HAPPY GROWING! HOPE THIS HELPS, IF YOU KEEP HAVING PH&NUTE PROBLEMS DITCH THE OLD HYDROTON.

humm, i re-use it regularly. yeah it raises the ppm but i never figured inert clay would have much effect on the plants. Never had an issue with PH fluctuation tho.....

thanks for the heads up tho.

Got all my moms sitting in hydroton. Dont even feed them just top of with tap water not even PH'ed and they do fine. To each his own. I do one clean with bleach and rinse, anything further than that is pointless and a waiste of time.

I use power growers. All kinda algae on top at first and does not affect the plants at all. The roots are always white and the plants stay healthy in the worst conditions, hot, cold, you name it. Few days ago I did an experiment and chopped all the roots hanging in the rez in one of my mothers. No efffect what so ever. Sticking with Hydroton my friend.

I couldn't even imagine using it more than once. Why? I use 4 bags per grow, and forget all that trying to reuse it.

Throw away, buy new.

Use a pressure washer. Cleans it in a few minutes with little effort.

You feel 63 ppm from the silica that's naturally in the hydroton is
some cataclysmic event ?

LOL whateva !

Hydroton is damn near gonna be extinct soon there Master it's production is over
the clay source is depleted ,,hydroton is no more ,so ya may wanna save those clay
balls there isnt any more ...'
Maybe you can learn to wash the stuff and live with it like the rest of us do
and quit claiming the sky is falling .. oh one of great drama

huh? the company named Hydroton is out of business now, but there are other companies making clay pellets, lol! the shops already have the new stuff in, I'm running it right now. Its basically the same, just a bit more powder to wash off, but the PH seems more stable with the new stuff. Its better.

rumors.

I've never noticed any problems with reusing grow rocks. I have used the same 45L bag for 30 straight crops before, while washing the rocks between crops with mostly only water. The main thing I was doing was separating all of the roots from the rocks, that's all.

Yea the clay balls are extinct. We haven't been able to order any at work for a while now it looks like it grow rocks instead of the nice pellets. A few people are upset but have moved to the rocks and haven't had any probs. the others have bought every last bag we had in stock. Guess its on to the next thing.

You will live without hydroton. I have used red lava, horticultural grade pumice and smooth aquarium rocks (undyed/unpainted natural boring colors). All fared well. If using pumice RINSE the hell out of it as it has a fine dust from processing. It did not encourage bacterial overgrowth or algae, it just mucks the bottom of the res.

I use greatwhite and bubble them for a few days, seems to do the trick, all dead root matter floats in a couple days, and is gone by third or fourth. never noticed ppm jump, but dont do ebb n flo...:leaf:

I never said not to use it. I said if your having "PH or nute probs ditch the old hydroton". I gave you my reason not to re-use it.

I LOVE HYDROTON

ITS NOT 'INERT' any more after one use, by definition.

Hydroton is out of biz, the clay IS becoming a depleted resource but its a ways away, try Viagrow grow rocks or Grow!t clay pellets. Same shit diff name.

I mainly started this thread because ofter my more then enough rinsing procedure of my hydroton there still was fucken trace of something in it! around 100-150PPM more then my tap water, in diff tests, so there is another reason: its not consistent.

Happy growing in what ever you so choose!

You did good. Those who don't know and may be having problems because of what you describe will benefit - hopefully. Every little bit of info or input can help.
