Dont laugh, ok do. I got bored and went ahead to germinate just to get a feel for what growings about. I'll see if I wanna dedicate myself to the plant depending on how it goes.

The lamp doesnt fit cfl's can you believe it, so thats a normal bulb - very hot, might be a huge problem for just a week.

Otherwise, what do you think? its in the corner part of a desk in my room. It has slight ventilation at the back, it isnt completely sealed so theres some airflow but no fans.

its a lil white widow, none feminized. my other seeds are feminized hence why this one is reserved as a trial.

will this shitty bulb and setup cope for a week til i get a light, sort some stuff out?

is that dirt from the outside lol? with that dirt and that light you MIGHT get by for a week just because its so young but i wouldnt , you would be better off putting it in the window during the day until u can get a light, just my .02

nah its pretty good compost actually. i was gonna use outside dirt but its horrendous, mostly stones. so i took the lower layers of a grow bag and used that. and yeah thinking of putting it outside but not sure the light is really veg quality around here this time of year

I agree with the amrcngror. I germ my seeds by putting them straight into the soil, watering, and putting them out in the sun. I think it would be better as opposed to an incandescent bulb, even if its closer to fall.

yea it would be better than that bulb even this time of year, it would be the same difference as vegging with an hps

Ok I'll bear that in mind. Don't forget this is uk weather for me so might not be quite as easy. We have been having good sun recently though.

Just get your self a cheap 27 Watt or if you can a 42 Watt 6500K or 5000K CFL and a clip on dome reflector, you can get these quite cheap at a Wall Mart or Harbor Freight and your seedling will show its appreciation. However if you want better results one of the best lights for starting clones or seedlings for indoor would be a High Output T5 fixture or Metal Halide but since you only have 1 plant in a small area with poor ventilation your best bet would be either CFL's like mentioned above or $$$LED$$$. If you can cut some holes in the side of your desk and put some ducting with fans you could use a small 70-150 Watt MH outdoor security light, I have one of these and it works great. You can get these security lights at Home Depot or any home improvement store and they have a glass lens which seals shut keeping the ballast & bulb water/weather proof, this is cool because you can spray/mist your plants without worry of exploding your bulb, lol. MH provides some of the best light in the blue spectrum for vigorous, leafy growth and short node spacing, however MH like all HID lights give off lots of heat that you have to vent out of the grow space. If you can setup adequate ventilation for your grow space and line it with Mylar or similar reflective material you would see killer results using two outdoor HID security lights (this example I imagine would only be adequate lighting for one or two plants). 1 x 150Watt MH for veg and one 150 Watt HPS for flowering. If you can't provide proper ventilation you really should consider changing locations, however if you have to use what you got then CFL's or LED or if you can afford it Induction lights are your best bet. Good luck and keep us posted.

Nice, that cabinet thing will not work. You need proper ventilation and at least a cfl.

Voila! Her first 2 sets of leaves showing. She's looking pretty healthy actually, i was expecting a raggedy, stretched thing but it looks pretty good. What do you guys think?

I've looked into the lighting a bit. All of the bulbs in the house are CFL's, but none of them fit the lamp because it's a small edison screw. There are cfl's that fit that type of screw but they're really small and crappy. So i'm probably gonna get a new lamp OR buy an adapter for the current lamp. There are bulbs in the house that are HUGE energy saving ones, 3 long coils. I'm guessing theyre the high end of wattage so i'll probably pinch one of them.

Also, i've got fans but they run on usb. Is there anyway of changing them to plug power? Or is it better to just buy new ones

As for the fans that run on usb.... Have a look around your house for an old crusty mobile phone charger, USB is 5v , 500ma. So try and find a charger that is 5v and over 500ma, you can then just strip the plug off this charger and wire it up to your fan.

1 week update for you guys. Got a few CFL's, 3-4 - have only wired up one because i lack the plugs atm, but it'll do the job for a seedling for now.

'daylight' like youre supposed to, damn its bright...

2 week update and 2 sets of leaves, im guessing thats pretty slow progress. i have about 2 23w cfl's in at the moment though and theyre in a very small reflective area so meh.

that material in the picture is actually part of the small box its in, which is from the hospital? Used in transporting organs apparently so i think its designed to be cool, and as you can see reflective. its about 12 inches by 12 inches so pretty small, its fine for this size plant for now but when i get more lights in i was thinking itd be more ideal to use it as a reflector, thoughts?

super lemon haze going in soon. i have a 600w coming in the mail which was impulse buy, very cheap for 600w. i dont wanna use all that electricity for 2 plants though so ill be adding more cfls shortly

thats 2/3 leaf pairs in 2 days! I put it down to the new fan I put in, has really helped.

having trouble getting hold of anything over 20w... Wickes has absolutely nothing. No lamp holders, and all the bulbs are 2700k and really small and stupid looking.
