I think its for space. I've heard theories about your plants builiding a denser root ball by starting them small and moving up in container size, but I really don't think it matters(at least for indica strains). Trial and error is what its all about though, test for yourself, with your seeds.

Get a cheap moisture meter while your there also to make sure your not overwatering. Nute burn can turn into a big problem with MG soil especially if your over watering. Your plant doesn't look that bad, maybe a little nute burn, and a little over watering.

If you do cut them off, do it 2 to 3 weeks before you put them in the flowering room. If they're already flowering, leave them alone. I have cut off the very bottom couple of sets before flowering and have never had any problems. Make sure you use a sterile razor blade, or snips.

If they do indeed have pollen sacs on them and they burst, you could contaminate future grows if using the same grow area. I couldn't tell from the pics if they did or not. If they do have sacs cut it down early and get them the hell away from your usual grow area if you want sensimilla plants...

Just be careful not to overwater when they're little, less is more, and they'll be just fine. With ffof you won't need any nutes for at least a month unless they're extremely heavy feeders. Buy a cheap moisture meter to check the soil if your not sure. Just my opinion from the experiences I've had.

^^^ Yep, agree with above posts, run them at least 18 hours a day until flower. Like beardo said, pick a cycle of on/off and stick to it. Bouncing around the photo period wether in veg or flower will increase your chances of a hermie with feminized seeds.

Never had any problems with ffof starting from seed, but you will burn them with it if you over water your seedlings, from my experience anyway.

They'll be just fine, your always going to get a few root tips coming out of the drainage holes. If you were using a very thin lighty colored or white container and the entire outside of the root ball was getting light, then you might have a problem.
