I own a few and they are really good. Great drainage with soil/perlite. Just make sure you have them right side up with the rows of no holes on top. Watering can get a little more messy. (get a good tray if indoors) The bottom will drain your medium if it is smaller. (just a little) some have put pantyhose to cover the bottom to help keep the medium in place and not the water. If you use them outside than it really doesnt matter that much.Good luck

also i found that the drainage is so good that i had to change my watering/feeding routine a little.

i love them. i find that they let the soil through the bottom, only when your are first putting the medium in and your first good watering. After that, at least for me, the soil seems to stay in place. And as long as you water slow (which helps with being thorough) you dont even get much water coming out the side holes. But, that being said, a slightly larger water saucer/tray will insure no water gets out of hand.

Well I've got to say I'm glad you love them, that normally means they work! and they are a lot more expensive than your standard pot! What are your Yields like since using these pots?

Agree -- after first water very little dirt comes out... you do need to water a bit slow just like with any pot with holes in the bottom. You do have to be very thorough to avoid dry spots. No idea if they result in bigger yields yet (don't have a comparison) but they definitely help build a strong rootball. I culled a mail and tried to save some of the dirt but the only dirt I could get was at the bottom and where the holes were everything in the root zone was a solid root mass held together by dirt.

They are easy to transplant -- you just open the pot up and put it in it's new home -- no upside downing them to pop them out. They have also made it super easy to do tie downs for me as I just attach the strings to the holes using paper clips. Easiest training ever -- no drilling holes/putting screws in pots, etc. I have a scrog like canopy with no screen using paper clips & twine & airpots and that's it!

The extra watering is not because of drainage -- it's because of the extra root development.

many people will tell you they are great.

i just threw out 16 of them. they are a HUGE pain in the ass to water. 2 friends on this board came to the same conclusion at the same time. smart pots. that's the way to go. the root ball from them is insane. just a huge mass of dense roots. i love them and they have the same benefits without the BULLSHIT you have to deal with with air pots. wait till you see the water running out of the holes like a waterfall. priceless! lol

if you google around you will find a bunch of ex air pot users.

I've seen the smart pots, that info actually made me laugh :D, I can imagine the water coming out the holes, but I don't mind that to much, I might get 5 smart pots and 5 air pots and trial them out side by side, see what happens! I would really like to hear about some yields with the two if anyone has any pics, bonus....

Brilliant, Thanks for taking the time to upload, Looks very healthy. So the trick to using these is to water slowly and keep a bigger tray to catch the water, I Bet these would work really well on a drip feed... I may design a simple 5 pot dripper...

It starts with a seed and leads to a huge bill =)

Gotta love nature =)

Yes it's about speed of watering... water too fast and you'll have water coming out. I don't use a tray I just water mine in the sink. Once you get used to watering them you lose very little water and I rarely have water coming out the sides... out of the bottom like any other pot with holes yes.

Had 2 og's in airpots, 6 in my regular short 5 gal plastic pots, there was no difference in yield. Just finishing up a plant in a smartpot, it looks really good at this point, I'm interested to see if the rootball is any different from my plastics.

Here's another way. Bellagio Style- or not. APs + lava rock rocks hard. Due to rapid drainage of lava rock, BUT, retention of tiny pockets of nutes, I can flood ~ 45 minutes, rockin the speed of growth

TGA jillybean 4 weeks in a 5 gal air pot. If you water too fast, you get the waterfalls.

beautiful! nice job! :)

try it with 16 pots!

i've grown so many times, i always look for easier ways to do things, the air pots were the reverse of easy. i didn't see any difference in air pot and smart pot yeilds. both allow for great root mass compared to any other soil pot/bag i've used but the ease of watering the smart pots wins out. the air pots look cooler. that's about it.

I'll probably pick up a couple of smart pots to compare... who knows might switch too. For me the limitation on how quickly I water is a limitation of my sprayer, not the airpots though. If I used a regular watering can it would be fast and I'd waste a lot of water (no matter which kind of pot). So I'm not sure smartpots would save me any time unless I dump the sprayer.
