one seed two sprouts?

Has anyone ever had this happen? what should i do? I'm thinking I should separate them when they are young but I don't want to disturb or damage the roots. Maybe I should just let them grow old and die together but I'm thinking this may stunt them and take up too much room in the pot. Will they be genetically identical? One of them looks kind of challenged already but I want them both to live. It was a Barney's Farm Red Deisel in case anyone wants to know. Any special advice? I have included some blurry pics that i took with my crappy camera.

oh god i had this ages ago and people started ragging on me saying i had pretended it was a twin, like it being a twin was something to brag about? lol

i'm pretty sure i probably just dropped two beans into one hole tho at the time i was positive i couldn't have

if yer beyond sure it's only one then leave her be and let her grow :)

Yah, i've seen it before as well.. my friend doobieous on here even had a thread titled got twins about it.. with hers, the one just ending up dying not too far into the grow, but i have read on here that people have gotten both of them to harvest, which is pretty cool..
i agree, just leave them be, and treat them as one plant, and see what happens, what do you have to loose really, and at best, you can get two harvests from one plant..

yeah it's a polyploid sometimes there are 3 or more buds at each node or a plant with two heads grow em out it could be a good mutation to have.

my concern with letting them be is that they are like siamese twins. i dont know what parts they share and what parts they don't. i'm thinking they either share the same root mass in which case one or both of them will have to be stunted, or they will have separate root masses in which case they will need a humungo pot which I probably won't have room for if I get what I want out of my 15 seeds that I planted. after reading these posts though I fear that the challenged one will probably die since it's already way smaller. i can't wait to see how they do though. if they have some kind of mutation maybe they will grow more shoots when topped...i'm friggen excited.

well the chances are one will die off - but if they dont, and even if one does get stunted, yer still gonna have more than if it were a normal seedling - plus different stuff is fun lol so enjoy!!

i'll be keeping an eye out to see how she comes along ;)

Ok so here's the update. 10 days old and it appears that sadly one of these is going to die. at this point it's not all the way dead but it hasn't grown almost at all. The thriving twin is doing well. ignore the slight browing on the tips of the first leaves. some water contamination and ph issues blah blah blah but that's over with. I'm still excited to see how the plant does when topped.

Sorry to hear about your dying twin :-(

I had this happen with a free DNA LA Woman from 'Tude. One of the sprouts only had one cotyledon. It was severely stunted and eventually died about a week after germ.

it's ok. the one that lived seems to be taking off now. when you had this happen how did the plant that was left over do? did it live? did it display any special charactaristics as it grew?

Actually, yes! After the second true set of leaves, a single shoot with two leaves emerged, halting any further single cola growth. It naturally created two main colas! Pretty cool.

I've just started flowering her, actually, and she doing great. Very healthy and vigorous. This was also my first attempt at LST where I'm growing the main stems horizontally on all of my plants and with the LA Woman it's been accelerated considerably. No complaints here!

:peace:

so this thing popped soil exactly 2 weeks ago. the 3 bladed leaves are coming along but the next set of leaves is having an issue. its just making this weird leaf clump. i tried to take a decent picture but the thing is so tiny. i don't know how to embed but i think if you double click the thumbnail it brings up a page full size. anyway i'm worried now. i don't know what the hell this thing is going to do but it doesn't look so good.

so here's the update. that leaf clump never un-clumped, and that set of fan leaves is all curled up and retarded but otherwise green and healthy. i topped about 10 days ago. it responded normally with 2 normal tops. it has a big ass branch growing on the bottom though. It's been on 18/6 under an hps with the rest for about 2 weeks. I would clone it but i never have before.
