Growing Out Shishka - 400W Low Pressure Aeroponic System

Well I thought I would take the plunge and show off the ladies I'm growing out right now. Let's see on 5/9 - I placed 6 seeds in 1.5 rockwool starters and by 5/12 I had 4 spouted plants. I got these beans from a dispensery in the state on a donation basis :bigjoint:
By 6/2 I had moved them into my flowering cabinet and put the MH in for a few weeks, which also enabled me to take cuts from each of them before I put them into flower. I also topped them during this time and each produced two large stems instead of one central stem.

On 6/13 I took clones and 6/24 I modded my veg system to two totes so that I would have more room for root growth as I plan on keeping them in this system till the others have finished flowering out or atleast that is the plan. I forsee some heavy pruning.

I"m going to go with a flowering date of 7/6, although I had switched the lights to 12/12 on ?!? (can't believe I cant' find the date in my notes), as I'm now seeing signs of female sex with small pistils comming out at the tops of 3 of the plants. So confirmed 3 female with what looks to be one male. The male was actually slow to sprout/grow and is half the size of the other plants so I was planning on culling it and letting the 3 take over the flowering cabinet.

When I took clones I took 2 cuts from each plant, minus the 2 from the runt as they didn't make it, and put one of the strongest into a pot for a mother plant. I just hoped for females with the cuts and figured I would cull when I knew the sex.

I'm running GH 3 part flora series with added Floralicious Plus, Liquid Koolbloom, and Cal/Mg. I run R.O. water, tap is over 1900ppm, the PH runs from 5.5 to 6.1. If it is clsoe to 6.1 I Ph down if pretty close 5.7 I will just leave it. Ofcourse, I just use the Koolbloom in the flowering cabinet. I also use FloraKleen at rez changes, I add it and let the systems run for a few hours on thier normal schedule and then change it out.

Photo0160.jpgThis is a pic of my recirculating line to the rez..it aerates as well as stirs up the solution when the pump is on. I also run an airstone in each rez.
Ill have to remember next time to put the older ones in first so the end up at the bottom....

Wll these were taken on the 22nd of june, you can see awsome results of topping. I'm using FoxFarm OceanForest for the mother who is now getting some LST training , I hope to make her kinda like a spiral (pics to come). I've also super cropped here and there and will prob have to bend a few over in the flowering cabinet as I may have let them veg alittle long.

Well...comments, thougths and suggestions always welcome :hump:
In it for the long haul.....

The were given to me on donation basis from a dispensery in the state, cefore they came to my state they grew in Oregeon and still do I believe. I've noticed that the original Shishka genetics are pretty much all but lost as it has been crossed into Shiskaberry. Then from there shiskaberry is called something else that is bouncing around up in my marbles. That is when I've looked for it at the seedbanks, it will come to me eventually and I'll post.
I've been totally amazed with it's growth as it has just erupted! I can only hope that it produces as well as it did through the veg period.
I think they have finally stopped thier flower stretch and are going to start packing on the bud weight.

Moved some things around in both cabinets. I've read that mixed reviews on moving things from hydro to soil and vise versa, but I decided I would try and move one of my cuts into a planter to help another local patient. I gently removed the plant from the netpot, careful not to rip roots that were sticking through the pot. You can see in the pic how the fine roots held the pellets which I shook free, I then placed it into some Ocean's Forest. Been 2 or 3 days now and she's looking strong.

The misc pic in there is of the LST I'm trying out on my mother plant, she seems to be taking it well. All the pics are from the veg cabinet and are all cuts that I took from the seeds I germinated.

Talked to another dispensery last night when they came and he gave me two of his Shiskaberry pheno's and 4 of a strain they developed called Pine-a-Hash. Free beans with awsome genetics

Update from the flower cabinet. The Second pic is just been topped but pics 4 and 6 was topped and then supercropped. I noticed that it really made it alot more bushy and threw of alot more shoots/budsites. Some of the fan leaves are getting pretty large, atleast they have seemed have stopped stretching as I'm getting closer and closer to the top. Kinda hard to guestimate finish height on new strain ect. I'll know more next time around.

Hindsight is always 20/20 went in last night while the lamp was on and put in two 6in 90 degree fittings on the aircooled hood. It will give me a few more inches of space to raise the light, as all us small space growers know that height is super important, as well as give it alot better air flow. As I bunched up the ductwork as I raised the light it put a hard kink in the duct which ofcourse diminished airflow, as the two cabinets are connected it made the temp in the veg cabinet shoot up into the 90's.
All better now though and I should almost be able to max the light out to the very top. You would think with the insulated ductwork it would take up a huge amount of room and not compress but it is exactly the opposite, it compress well and is just slightly bulky to work with.

So riddle me this...Does the plant max out it's height and produce the cola at the top or is it going to put the cola on top of what is already there?

Dinafen is right..but some strains wil be diff..ive had some that grew fat baseball colas..and ive had spears that jus got taller every week

If i remember right the Shishk grew somewhat long colas but fat depending on pheno.

Not that I don't want nice fat cola's I'm just running short on room. As this is my second grow and first with the strain I wasn't sure on how tall to switch it as I do want to maximize my yeild at the same time like everyone else :) I would imagine it woulbe better to start to bend them out of the way now than later when they are larger. It is starting to really put on the budsite now. Picked back up the Nikon D700 to take some more pictures so they will a lot better quality than the camera off the phone, which wasn't all theaaat bad

Thanks I really do have fun taking them and wish I had access to a micro lens, perhaps one day.
This looks as if it is going to be a hard lesson in letting them veg to tall. They really had slowed thier upward growth but I've noticed a good 1/2 inch the last day or so. I'll grab some new pics tonight when the lights come back on.

Any suggestions as what I should do now?

Are you already flowering?
I'm assuming you are in between day 0-14 flower, and in the early stretch phase.
I only use CFL's, so it's pretty easy to keep it dense, but when I get a 150w HPS some day, I plan on using the CFL's up until the first 12-14 days of flower.
Also using a nitrogen rich fertilizer, such as any old Vegetative Fert, or mixing it with Flower Fert, will give the plant the Nitrogen it needs to grow denser. I use veg fert for the first 10ish days, and mix it with flower for the next 4ish days, and then straight to pure flower food.
My leaves are all super green @ 5 weeks, I'm hoping they'll all die off just in time. But from all the nitrogen I gave her in stretch, she isn't starved with yellowing leaves too soon.
If the tops are getting too close to the light, you could LST them, by tying top branches over sideways at certain angles until the desired height.
But be careful, if the top buds are too low, the Auxin Shift will cause other buds to become dominant, and you won't get the fat tops you want.

I vegged way too long on my "Fruit Hair" in my signature, she's easily 29" from soil to tip.. on 110w of CFL.
I managed to shoot a good trophy cola picture with just a shitty digital 3.1mp camera thats very old.

I'm sure you'll get good budshots.

there gonna stretch for about 30 days or so...if you can, try to bend it over nicely and tie it...as long as you dont force it , it will be fine...if you gotta bend a lil every day then so be it. They look real good tho, and this is a big strain lol

Well bending and tying this late is easier said than done as the main stalk at the cola is alteast as fat around as a kindergarden pencil then don't 'bend' anymore. I'm doing some LST on my mother plant and understand plant stress limit but the first one I tried to bend down SNAP it was bent over. Basicly supercropped I know it will slow grow to that area and will grow a large knuckle at the bend with lots of vertical shoots.
This strain is saying 60 to 65 day flowering period, wow that is fast! Sat down and looked at the dates and that puts me right about 30 days away now, so hopefully I can keep it under controll till then.

I use the GH recirculating keep it simple program, mixed at a slightly lower lvl than suggested. During the aggressive bloom stage there is no grow formula added so I would imagine that it isnt receiving much nitrogen if any at all now. Lots of lower foilage has turned, some from lack of light through the canopy. I"ll grab some more pics tonight...
