Seamaiden's gifted seeds journal

Ok, so... meeting people on the internets can be a really good thing. I've got to give mad props to hydrotech364, as he gifted me with 5 each Papaya and California Indica X Big Bud seeds. For that gift I am very, very grateful. :D All will be grown outdoors, possibly moved into greenhouse when that goes up.

Onto the journal bit! Seeds were set for germination Saturday evening, slightly scuffed with 150 grit sandpaper, then set on moist paper towels.

4 of the 5 Cali Indica X BigBud seeds have sprouted FAMOUSLY, those have been planted in peat pots that are put in cups with some soil and marked (I plan to breed with these strains) last night, 6.9.08.

2 of 5 Papaya seeds have sprouted, planted in peat pots then placed in soil as well, last night, 6.9.08.

All unsprouted are being left on their paper towels in a drawer in a temperature stable area in the hopes that all will sprout. I have not decided whether these plants will go into the greenhouse, they may just be grown entirely on the deck.
Pix to come later.

Of interest to me, notable differences between the two seed strains. The CaliXBB seeds are BIG, firm (hard actually), juicy looking, and beefy. The Papaya are notably smaller and more.. gracile.

Found one of the Cali Ind'a x Big Bud seeds had begun to break the surface last night. No other seeds have germinated, not even the last of the original five C.I. x B.B. seeds. I REALLY wish I could get at least one more Papaya germinated!

Still awaiting emergence of the others that were planted.

One Papaya (whichever variety it is) is definitely sprouting slowly. The other one has not yet broken through the soil, but it's been warm today and they're out on the black hatchling tray.

I am having one HELL of a time getting these others to germinate. I'm keeping them warm, heating them for a couple of hours at a time on the moist paper toil in a baggie, the method that works for me EVERY time. The heat is gentle, cooler than what one would use to make yogurt, if you've ever done that. What do you do with seeds that don't seem to want to germinate, but you REALLY want to get them going? Is this the place for a product like Superthrive, or vitamins, or rooting hormone..? Damn.. have I got some serious reading to do. Again. As ever.

Ah ha! Found your journal...

I just had 100% germination rate by starting all 5 seeds in a shot glass of water. After about six hours, they all dropped to the bottom (with a little prodding) and were then placed in moist paper towels. Cracked in less than 24 hours.

Maybe you can just throw your stubborn seeds directly in some water.

If'n they don't sprout by tomorrow, that's what I'm going to do. I'm also going to try the one last trick Mr. hydrotech said he uses.

And hydro! Are these the Nirvana Papaya shamegame asked about?

One thing I do when I have trouble with slow germination is add warmth. Putting my starting tray on the water heater or on top of my flowering box raises the germinating temp enough to prompt stubborn seeds.

Good luck! I look forward to reading your progress.

Im really not sure wich seed co distributed them.Bought in Holland, moved to scottland then moved again to edmonton alberta.Thats where the woman who gifted me lives.Like i said the buds were gold and blue there. All the plants ive grown have had long hairs emerge in the 1st few days of flower 1 inch hairs even on the sickly plants.Classic mango/green crack buds. She did say that the pack said papaya{mango}like mango was a nickname. She sent me seeded buds like im sending you with the superskunk. They were gold and blue.Mine are green ,awesome green with crystal trich's.My temp zone is alot different though so youres will probobly end up gold like hers.:mrgreen:Peace

Thank you T&EMan. :) I did get started with some other seeds in early April, but I have been unable to determine strain, and have guessed that I'm working with in Indica (especially now that I can see the C/I x B.B. grow and know what it is.

I'm getting a hydro cabinet Friday and I just started some Connie seeds for it, I put five of them in water and all five germinated. These things germ like mad!! Hopefully you will have excellent luck with them!

I met another grower in my area and we're meeting up tomorrow night. He's trading me cuttings of F-13 and Heavy Duty Fruity for a dozen o' the seeds. They're already in soil so they're going in the outdoor garden. I am rich with plantage! :) I'm so psyched that I can share these seeds with more experienced growers and watch your results! What a great learning experience this is going to be. I can't wait to see your results with all these new seeds, you must be so excited!

I'm trying to find your grow journal of the unknown seeds...where is it?

Um... crap, I haven't posted anything in there in a long time, and it never actually started as a grow journal. And now the gallery links are gone (at least it looks like mine is).. but you can see 'em here: Error
God, not this again. It should say Marijuana Pics-Gallery or something like that, and it should take you to my gallery.

No, I've been having stomach trouble since after our Father's Day dinner. Still having trouble. :? owee. I think I should be receiving some special packages soon, though.
