Seamaiden's gifted seeds journal

I got my papaya seeds today and five of them are now soaking in a glass of water, we'll see what happens! I set it on my stove so they'd get the warmth from the pilot light. Seamaiden, did my seeds make it to you?

Not yet, but I'll be checking. :)

The Papayas that were sent to me arrived completely and totally crushed. Nothing but oily spots, pulp, and hulls. I've been trying to get some photos up of the seedlings I have going (the journal seedlings), but something is wrong--photos are coming out either highly over-exposed (as in COMPLETELY blown, ruined a lot of the pix from our Santa Rosa trip) or terribly under-exposed. I'm not sure what's wrong, but I haven't had this trouble before and I'm suspecting that the CF card (a 4yo card) may be on its last legs. They ARE growing, though!

Damn, hydro, you have GOT to be kidding me! Twistyman mentioned using CD cases, that might be what's necessary to keep these thugs from fuckin' up our shit.

I got to peruse the bible, but haven't had a chance to really dig deep, didn't get home from Sact'o Int'l til about 10:30 last night, and I had road butt goin' on. Living in Texas I think you know what I mean (I've driven through that state more times than I can count and it's never gotten any faster) (hell, FLYING over you takes forever). I'm kind of wishing I hadn't used up my Barnes & Noble gift card on the SeeMoreBuds book, it's really nothing but a grow journal. I did get the outdoors grower's guide, and it's helpful, but not complete. If I weren't running out of ink again I'd just print out the bible, but at least I have the laptop so I can take it to the "library" with me. It'll keep my lap warm.

Zeke, what's up? Give a shout out to the Sierra, son! :)

Oh littlebat..! Four Conqui's planted today, eight of ten have germinated to this point.

I didn't plant all that are germinating just yet because I like to let them develop a bit of a root before planting, plus I'm marking which ones have straight taps and which have curved to see if there is any validity to the proposition that those whose roots are straight tend to be male and those whose roots curve tend to be female. Empirical evidence is better than none, right?

:D

First I need to learn what F1's are. I know what a phenotype is, but most of this high school biology stuff I have long forgotten. First generations, right?

Yeah, your first generation of papaya x (indica x big bud) hybrids (F1s) will have a lot of variation between all the dominant and recessive characteristics, especially if the indica x big bud has not been stabilized. You'll be able to tell if it has by how different each of the seeds you planted turns out. This is interesting from a breeding perspective - it gives you lot to choose from - but more work to do in order to stabilize. In any case, lots of fun!

The Papaya are proving SO difficult just to germinate that I will first ensure that I am able to keep that strain pure. The Cali. I x B.B. is STRONG. If I create my own strain it's probably going to be an Indica, and I shall name it Hearty and Hale, like these Indicas are. :D

If the one Papaya proves to be male, I will keep the pollen, and my cross some of my unknowns with it. I really wish to hell Ted would just ASK the guy what strain it is, I sure would like to put a name with the face!

The differences with the strains are like night and day though. If ya could shorten the veg of the papaya and get the same THC % in a bigger bud it would be cool, and the flavors would just complement each other!!!I know ill have plenty more seeds for mutated freaky herb experiments!!!peace lady <me>

I will work on it. Got some more Papaya seeds today, they are soaking in a cup with a teeny bit of Supahthrive (that's more fly, Supahthrive, rather than Superthrive.. is it fly, or something else now? How 'bout groovy?). 8)

It is VERY smoky up here, so much so that there have been no shadows, it's like a heavily overcast day. Weird, it only slightly smells of smoke.. either that or I've gotten used to it.

We're not in it, but it's pretty widespread so the smoke is covering a HUGE area of NorCal. I keep a close eye out for ash-fall, I've already been too up close and personal with true conflagrations. My neighbors on the other hand, idiots think they could actually drive out of here if the street caught. Fucking morons, they have no idea -- THE CAR WON'T GO!!! You'll just cook inside it. Idiots. Cut your pines, cut the manzanita (also called greasewood out here because you can hold a lighter up to the green leaves and it catches and burns hot).

Seamaiden, come over to the Connie thread & give your input! :)

I just bought some Superthrive, weird you should mention it! I have 5 connies & 5 papaya in rockwool right now...connies are bursting as usual but papaya not yet. So I was thinking of giving them another soak with some of the ST. Let me know how it works for you! And take care of yourself, okay?
