Plasma and 1000w grow

Just needed a place that wasn't on my computer to track my thoughts and observations on my grow op.

Currently, I'm running a Lumatek 1000w and a h400 highbay Luxim Luminaire 41-02. We got the Luxim direct from the manufacturer by telling them it was a display and that we would be interested in more. Cost $700 which is better than their horticulture product and we were able to put the updated red enhanced bulb into it.

The Luxim looks promising and this first pics aren't a fair comparison as the plants under it are a week younger than the ones under the 1k. Next round should be more fair as I won't have a problem getting my clones ready and having the proper number.

I'm running 4 Aeroflow tubes and then I made 4 Aeroflowesque tubes with Lowe's parts and general hydro pumps.

I run Advanced Nutrients Sensi Grow and Bloom with Voodoo Juice, B-52, Big Bud, Sensizyme, and will finish with overdrive and then a clearex flush.

To start I'm going to separate the different days of photos with different posts and will update every couple of weeks with pics that are about 7 days apart. (Also, computer dorks, could you please verify that the exif data has been wiped on my pics?)

The genetics at the time are mostly Island Sweet Skunk but there are a few Barney's LSD and Kannabia White Domina. In the future, it will be mostly LSD, White Domina, and some unknown purple strain I recently acquired.

7 days into flowering. Some may be from a little later but it's tough to look at these with exif stripped because my cpu just jumbles them. 17.1.jpgDSC00548.jpgDSC00550.jpgDSC00556.jpgDSC00554.jpgDSC00547.jpgDSC00545.jpg17.jpgDSC00553.jpgDSC00549.jpgDSC00552.jpgDSC00555.jpgDSC00546.jpgDSC00551.jpg

14 days (may cross over into 21). I will be better organized later now that I know how my exif stripper works so until then I'll just about 7-15 pics at a time. Well that took a little while. Gotta take a sick kid to the doctor. I will upload two more batches after that.DSC00577.jpgDSC00580.jpgDSC00582.jpgDSC00581.jpgDSC00578.jpgDSC00583.jpgDSC00570.jpgDSC00567.jpgDSC00566.jpgDSC00568.jpgDSC00572.jpgDSC00569.jpgDSC00579.jpgDSC00565.jpgDSC00571.jpg

And here's the rest. This is from 21 up 28-30. Right now I'm on day 31 of flowering so halfway there.

oh and the shorter plants under the plasma are anywhere from 7-21 days behind the bigger ones (just in case anyone is wondering wtf is going on with those).

Thanks. I think the light is sexy too. If it works and the prices come down, I will be running at least one more. The heat differential between it and the HPS is staggering and the electricity use (Which I'm not able to verify other than I had one crop with just the thousand and my bill hasn't really changed from that one) is supposed to be lower (300 watts).

I just want your plasma light.

it doesn't seem all that bright in some pics.. but brighter in others. Is it dimmable or something? How many watts or whatever (not sure how the intensity/lumens is measured on a plasma lamp).

anyhow, this is looking great too me bro.

keep up the good work!

peace..

It's not dimmable (at least not my model). I think it may have to do with the fact I'm using a camera on the auto setting so it adjusts itself for some reason. I have noticed that it is much more noticeable when I stand between it and the HPS. I think the HPS's yellow/orangeish glow kind of overpowers the cooler light of the plasma (to the human eye at least). Especially considering that I'm running the lumatek on the super lumens setting.

The data sheet says that it's pulling 279 watts. So, if the light continues to work out I may have my friend order another and run two of them next to the 1k to get a more fair comparison.

http://www.luxim.com/pdfs/STA%2040.pdf

Here's the link that most closely matches what I have. My friend ordered and paid for it so it says on the bill of lading that it's a custom build so it may differ slightly from any pictures. The 02 bulb significantly cuts down on the life but the 01 bulb doesn't have enough red spectrum in it to use for flowering. The 02 is the updated bulb that has enhanced red spectrum. From all the charts I've looked at, the 02 bulb matches an HPS pretty well.

No problem. I'll make sure to remember to snap a few next time I take the camera out there.

Here's some pics of the plasma while just it is on. My effing timer fried so had to plug it in another outlet while I got another timer out so decided to snap a couple pics for you guys.

The whole thing from end of the hanging clip to the end of the ballast is abouty 22 inches. I just put the tape measure in there for a sense of scale (not accuracy). damn 700 is cheap!! the one i was looking at a sulfur plasma I emailed the company i was quoted 6500.00 USD the CEO emailed me back i was kinda impressed

here is his email
Thank you for your interest in our Plasma lighting systems. I have attached a brochure for the lamp with this email.
For the past three years we have only been supplying the lights to Universities and Research Institutes for research purposes, and the results for horticulture have been very exciting.
We are currently getting certification for North America and expect to have a very limited supply available for shipment in late February 2011. Because this is a new product and we are just coming out of the research and development stage the current cost of the light system is $6,500.00. If you would like to be a first adopter and purchase one to have it shipped to you in late March or early April, please contact me and we can discuss your needs. Late in 2011 we expect to ramp up our production and will have a greater supply of lights available. At that time we expect the prices to gradually start coming down.
You can view a video of our lamp on the web site below.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards,

I'm running 4 Aeroflow tubes and then I made 4 Aeroflowesque tubes with Lowe's parts and general hydro pumps.
Ive been trying to design an anti-fungal aeroflo system with More realistic spacing and a higher pressure pump. Im close to finishing. I cant seem to get 1-1/4 pvc to fit the 1-1/4" GH drain grommet. Its too thick. Heres some pics

Nice setup man..

Yea definitely different. The company I got mine from is called Luxim. They were very helpful according to my friend but also there is a timing element because we managed to snap up one of the last of the particular run that was around.

Thanks. Your aero tubes look tons better than mine. Mine are kind of janky seeing as how I could only get 4" tubes in the time frame I needed. My holes are not quite big enough for 3" net pots but too big for 1.5s. I couldn't drill a 3" inch hole either or else I wouldn't have been able to run the hose down the side of the tube. I also have fixed drains that fall into much bigger holes in the buckets(storage containers) underneath. Also, I didn't have a PVC cutter so all of my PVC cuts were done with a saw zaw (I'm a motherfucking surgeon with that bitch). I was on a budget when I made those and if I make another set (which would be highly likely in the next year because I like to tinker and improve) then I will have the proper tools to make them.

Where did you get your tubes? I got my fence post off of lowe's website.

I looked them up thanks for the info
the rumor with these sulfur plasmas it cuts your veg time down to 5 days but i don't know how legit it is I have seen pictures of cuttings but no pictures of the final product

You have a find a contract fencing supplier. Vynal fencing is big these days so every town has them. You have to ask for black 5x5 abs. pvc stretches when black is added.
Hey mine might look fancy but with this drain problem I havnet fixed, at least your growing stuff out of yours. The black tubes also have a hexagon shape on the inside that perfectly fits 1/4 poly tubing so you dont have to install the tube clips which I found to be a pain in the ass.

I have enough fencing and pumps for 4 60 sites,
I like yours though.

My dream is to get all 4 60 sites running under 4, 400w parabolic reflectors. Making a small footprint on 240 plants with 2-3 oz per plant. thats 45 pounds on a good grow with only 600 bucks of energy usage.

Your grow kicks ass. Good job with the pro diy
