Accents in general absolutly blow my mind. Like the major differences and how broad.it.is. The way it can transform is amazing too, like our own evolution......I don't think I'm making any sense right now, but still..mind blowing shit to think about.

Before calling 'Chavs' uneducated and ignorant, you should pay more attention to your own grammar, spelling and punctuation. It has totally undermined your point.

As for white people thinking they're black, that's absurd and ignorant. ... and literally untrue.
My spelling and grammar has nothing to do with it, and you are obviously a posh boy with his head up his ass. I don't know where you are from in the UK but you obviously haven't mixed with the council estate boys who can barely read and write and who say wiv instead of with. Or the white boys who hang around with the black boys who walk round calling their mates blood! absurd is it you need to get out more and mix with the peasants instead of standing on that pedestal of yours looking down your nose because people make spelling mistakes and don't quite step up to the mark when it comes to grammar. I 've got all the education I need from life matey and I don't need correcting by a jumped up little shit like you.:finger:

I was talking to someone from the UK the other day and we had a kind of weird discussion. The difference between British accents, now I know their are tens or even hundreds of different dialects of UK English, but we discussed what can be called the "Main two", and that is "The accent of the upper class, or people who pretend to not be lower class" and "Chav". Chav is more like when they're like "Oi, yeew betuh get on wif it." and the rich accent is where they are like "Did you enjoy your biscuts?" "Quite". So more like the Harvard joke voice. But the point we got down to in this discussion is "What accent do American's prefer?" and the person for the UK was surprised to hear that American's would RATHER talk to a chav. Not necessarily the ones that talk so horribly you can't understand, but as an example, American's would rather hear the accent of Russel Brand VS Daniel Radcliff. The higher class accents really just have more chance of being made fun of when the person leaves, because American's will joke around by saying "Quite" and "Indubitably" and things like that.

Omfg a decent thread by fin

Thank you for sharing your kind answer my sweet lady. Sometimes it takes a bit of explaining to get a point across.

Well i'm from the UK and I don't speak like either of the accents you describe, the chav language as you call it is spoken by ignorant people who have been poorly educated or who are white and think they are black we have a lot of those types over here. As for the second accent we refer to that as posh language, spoken by the very educated such as doctors or lawyers. Then theirs the way the majority of the UK speak like I do not posh not chav just normal! Then you have all the different accents such as cockneys, brummies, scousers jocks, geordies the list is endless and of course the UK is also full of people from other countries now so we have quite an assortment.:o

Is this your evidence that white boys think they're black? ... slang language? ... Come on Granny. That's dumb.

......

As for the term 'blood' to mean family, that was used by 'William Shakespeare' in Macbeth.

This has turned into like a class war.
No class war.

A couple of ideas or notions mentioned I disagree with strongly. I actually find the idea that people should feel compelled to dress or act in relation to skin-color, deeply offensive. and as I said earlier, absurd.

This idea that slang should be reserved for a particular racial demographic is fucking stupid. Language is just a form of communication, that's all it is. So what if a 'white' kid wants to use 'Blood' or 'Homies ' or whatever. .. It does NOT mean he thinks he is black. LOL.

By that same logic, a person from West Africa who learns to speak English and wear westernized clothing would think he is 'white'. LOL. Trust me, this is NOT the case. ;-)

Money isn't just available to everyone.
Oh but it is... I got a terrible education, my family was not well off. Around the age of 28 I just decided... "fuck, I want me some money".. haha.
So I made my finances a high priority. I've still got a ways to go, but I'm getting there. You can too...

Now, there are exceptions. Obviously. I guess what I am saying is that you are just an idiot... not one of those exceptions. haha. Finshaggy...

AT THE AGE OF 28. I bet you didn't even have a good enough JOB to do that when you were 18, and most people don't even if you did. Around 30 years old is a perfectly reasonably age to become a financial entity in this world. Before then no one even really respects what you do with your money, even if it's making your own business, unless it gains national or international favor.

Yeah, it's sort of like a purple velvet hat on a middle aged white guy though... while it's not "reserved" only for a dancer on soul train... it looks really fucking stupid on my neighbor, Mathew Whiteface, the plumber.

I know who people are talking about when they say "the white kid who thinks he is black", and, they usually do look kinda stupid. I mean, it's just my opinion, hopefully they are secure enough that they don't care what other people think... but seeing as they are trying so hard to reinvent themselves (making assumptions here, yes) I sort of doubt that they are very secure.

I remember when a portion of my friends started talking, dressing and acting differently (sure, call it trying to be black) from the organic person that they were.... growing up in small town midwest..
If you decide you wanna take a 180 in the picture of yourself than you put out there, cool, go for it. But, you can't blame people for noticing that you look totally out of place and not buying that you are just being yourself.

Don't misunderstand me, I don't think white guys should act "white" and black guy should act "black". But when a kid I know grew up in the same suburb that I did shows up one day talking and looking like vanilla ice... im gonna notice, im gonna laugh.. cause it's funny. I'm guilty... haha.

No, I didn't. I was following around Widespread Panic, doing drugs and having a lot of fun. And I wouldn't change it for anything. Well, I was in college too. (Yes, paid for it myself), Still paying for it too. For me, college was more of a waste of money than the partying.
But, I wasn't going around saying that my money problems were anyone's fault but my own either.

I don't know how old you are Fin, but if you're still young, fuck it, do drugs, have fun... you have time to grow up later.
But, it will take some time to get your shit turned around. So if you want to be doing well financially by 30 I would get a start on it but 25 or 26.
I hear you on people not taking you seriously... you kinda have to adjust to what society wants from you, based on what area of work you go into. It kinda sucks, and coming out of you "free spirited" teen years, it feels like something you shouldn't have to do. But that's life.

Haha, I'm totally still paying for fun I had 10 years ago.

It helps ALOT if you can find work that you are genuinely interested in. Some people can go to work, call it work and not give a fuck about it and do well. Me... I need to be into it or I just won't apply myself. When I'm into it, I don't have a choice on the matter, I'm into it.

The money is out there though. Some people get everything handed to them... some people get fucked. All you can do is work with what you got and never forget where you came from if you get ahead in life. I've got a handful of friends in their mid 20s. I'm always getting the bill when we go out... I'll loan them my old truck for a week or two when their car breaks down... shit like that...
i remember being in the same position and I'm never going to be that asshole that calls anyone who doesn't have money "lazy".

And my point is that you can't blame kids like that for not talking like Harvard ass hats. Do you talk like a Harvard graduate? And would you feel ok being called lower class because of how you talk?

Who cares about class anymore? Anyone who does, has no idea what it means to be truly wealthy, and those folks would never comingle with the rest of us nothings anyway. Now shut up chinslappy.

Anymore, class is about how you carry yourself, not where you belong socially.

No, I don't talk like a Harvard grad.

I'm pretty secure with myself. I don't really care what people think. I have been working on my vocabulary and grammar over the last several years... like i said, I got a pretty shitty small town education... Talking a graduating class of 25 education... haha. But really, I don't give a fuck what other people think. Being able to present yourself as intelligent is all part of the game though. So, I try to pull off sounding as intelligent as I can,,, with moderate to little success... haha.

Agreed.

You walk up to a group of older women in your waiter uniform and say "hey... how are you guys doing?" and they look at you like a little punk.
You think they are looking down at you because you are a waiter... but really, you just called a group of women "guys".

Yep, speaking from experience here. I know better now.
