I am one who will get killed in either direction, if they come for my capital gains, I am screwed. If they come for the payroll tax reductions, I am screwed, if they come for the morgage deduction I am actress.
Now, what is the point? My point is that no matter what happens, the rich will NOT be screwed. Why should I take hits from every direction when they take them from none? In any situation my standard of living goes down, I will have to think twice about my common purchases - I will have to count pennies, eat less extravagant lunches, consider sending my daughter less money when she needs some help, my wife will worry even though we are fairly secure.
Now, explain how that one percent will suffer from a tax increase. Will they be forced to consider a 56 foot second yacht rather than the 62 foot one they were looking at? Will they stay up all night concerned that they may not be able to make the morgage on their home in the bahamas?
Now never mind me, how about the folks for whom that 1000 dollars represents their blood pressure medication or their cholesteral drugs? Are they going to have to make a choice between their third meal every day, every other day? and their ongoing and future health?
What is happening is what always happens - Republicans don't give a shit for those people, they never have, they never will - the question in future elections will be if they are able to pretend with enough vigor that they do. Oh, I forgot, the benevolent right wishes that these folks would contribute, they really want to help them.... pull themselves up by their own bootstraps - the elderly, the sick, the ones who need that thousand dollars, who can't make it up by selling a few bags of bud to their friends, the ones like my friend who is on the cusp of 65 and is pissing blood and is frightened because he fears he may have to make a choice between his home and his kidney. This is what Republicans are so willing to do to us and yet, for some reason I am unable to fathom - this same friend proudly voted for Romney.
