Happy Frog Japanese Maple 4-8-5 Organic Fertilizer has anyone used this for flowering?.....I'm going to give it a whirl...I’m just curious to see if anyone else has used it with any success.. I plan on scratching it into my soil and watering with a guano, sea kelp, and alfalfa, tea concoction after about two week or so. My base soil is Black Gold with all the usual suspects amended into it…the first strain I’m trying this out on is Sannies KO Kush

this is hilarious. i just got off the phone with fox farm to ask them what the difference is between the "peace of mind" line and the "happy frog" line of dry ferts because i couldn't tell based on the website, and another thread reminded me that i was curious.

she said, "absolutely nothing" i guess they changed the name to happy frog and put it in a plastic bag, but people complained because they thought the cardboard box that peace of mind comes in "displayed better on a shelf"...allrighty...


i have been using the peace of mind 5-5-5 all purpose. i first used it outside on my tomatoes and was blown away, so now i'm doing a run indoors on my cannabis. my tomatoes this year DESTROYED my buddy's miracle grow tomatoes and we both grew from the same pack of heirloom seeds. so far it's really doing a great job on my herb.

i can't say exactly what will happen with your particular setup and concoction since i used a different npk, but i bet you're going to get excellent results. it's a very high quality fert. i mixed mine into the soil before i transplanted and i figure i'll top dress every 30 days or so, depending on how she looks. no teas, no additional guanos, nothing. i just used gardner's gold potting soil and threw in some worm castings, perlite, lime, and a bit of "plant success granular" (whom i recently learned lost their "omri" rating but i'm gonna use the stuff anyway because i love it).

the japanese maple has a ratio that's more geared for flowering. i just went with the 5-5-5 because i plan on using ONLY that for the whole grow.

Thanks for the info T.H…..for veg I’m using the happy frog tomato vegetable at the rate of 2 tablespoons per gallon container. For flowering I’ll use the Japanese Maple at ½the recommended dosage and let the teas do their thing…I can’t wait to see this stuff in action….it almost feels like I’m cheating somehow. I love brewing teas and I have amendments all over the place and it drives me nutty …with the tomato veg and Japanese Maple I can consolidate my mess be a little more organized….plus the bags arecolor coded…that’s good when you’re all bobo’d and you’re doing some gardening..lol

I do all my own amendments, which is fine when I'm putting together the initial mix, or reamending recycled mix.

BUT!!!! A real pain in the ass when I need to top dress long term plants.

I've been thinking of either this, or some Espoma products for this task. Much easier to get some out of a bag or box than trying to get the correct amounts of 10-12 amendments to make up a couple cups for a top dress.

I really like how my garden plants responded to the Espoma plant tone...it's really good stuff, So I started using it on some of Sannies KO Kush that's veg’ing, The KO Kush went through a growth spurt about a week after using it (I was moving my light up an inch a day until I topped them)... So that got me thinking about using dry fertilizers…I wanted to get my hands on some Espoma’s bulb tone but unfortunately no nobody in Hawaii sells it....bo-hooo-hooo…poor me I know …lol. No biggie the hydro shop had the Happy Frog products and I’m sure they work just as well (hopefully better)….During flower I like to be a little more hands on that’s why I’ll be using the Japanese Maple at ½ the recommend dosage, and then blast the plants with teas…”we shall see”

funny you started this thread...I just bought a small bag of this for the same reasons. I do all my own mixes too, but mainly I wanted this to put in my re-used soil to get it back up to par, (it has alot of microbes), without using 15 things again.....great minds think alike!! yes?

Not really, Maybe 50~60 degrees for the lows a few nights out of the year....but it's usually around 65-70 for the lows and 80-90 for the highs....there's about a 5 to 10 degrees swing between Winter and Summer our weather is pretty stable...Believe it or not Mauna Kea on the Big Island gets snow a few times a year...trippy yea...They (whoever that is...lol) say Hawaii has two seasons Winter and Summer...but its more like Spring and Summer to me...the Photoperiod out here is something like 10 hour in the winter and tad over 14 hours in the summer time....we flower our plants outdoors all year long....we just need to veg a little longer in the winter....basscilly i veg indoors all year and throw them out to flower....I know I'm a spoiled asshole...lmao

LOL, I'm born and raised in Miami, Fl. VERY similar weather (except our hurricanes come from a different direction LOL), and most important, ... similar photo periods, ~10 min and ~14 max, winter and summer solstice.

I now live 800+ miles N of there, where the mountains smoke. Get to see snow, which I did quite well without for 58 years. LOL I don't miss SoFl, but 85* in Feb ...............

I garden also. If you can garden, mj is nothing. Indoors was/is a learning curve, but outdoors????????

I am new to gardening... I planted garlic last November and I wasnt home to really take care of it in the spring/summer but we did get beautiful garlic heads in August... I am not home that often in the spring/summer, which other veggies would be almost as good as garlic in terms of ease to grow and low maintenance? thanks!!

It works pretty good! just make sure to buffer your soil with Dolomite 1 tablespoon per gallon of soil. (I'd skip the garden lime it lacks magnesium) I've tested out most the FF/Happy Frog granules.... I've had the best results with Happy frog Marine Cruise, it's not totally organic, but it's pretty close.
