Question on how to run my carbon filter and duct muffler.

Thanks for the tip on the vortex. I checked them out and they look pretty good...But how much quieter are these than the growbrights?

why would you use a 6" fan that will remove about 750 square metres of air an hour, that would empty your tent of air roughly 12 times a minute. for christ sake your plants will freeze to death.

To be honest with you, I decided to get the 6" fan because everyone on RIU was telling me to in another thread (forget which one). I was originally going to get a 4"...I am totally a noob and I am trying to learn everything I can from reading books to coming on this site to have my questions answered.

So do you recommend using a 4" fan with my grow tent? I could really use the help because I plan on ordering most of everything by mid April. TIA.

Edit: This is just one of the replies I got regarding the 4" vs. the 6" fan,
Either fan/filter combo would be good for you. The 4" combo would be sufficient for that size of an area, but it never hurts to go a little bigger. I always recommend getting a larger fan/filter with a speed controller. When you run a larger fan at a lower speed, it will run more quietly and efficiently than a smaller fan at max rpm. Plus, your filter will last longer.

Go with the 6" DEFINATELY. Get a good speed controller. Then you can operate your room at idle speeds but you'll still have the top-end fan speed to instantly cool off your plants if nessesary. Go big or regret it later.

Thanks. I thought I was on the right track with a 6" fan/carbon filter....I plan on getting a good speed controller to run at idle for most of the time. Thanks again.

enough to matter if sound is an issue, apartments etc.
plus vortex are better quality and have a 10 year warranty. usually those fan/filter combos are chinese made crapola.

Sound will be an issue since I live in a fairly small apartment...What carbon filter do you (or anyone else) recommend pairing with the Vortex 6"? I am on a tight budget if you could please keep that in mind. TIA...

I assume everyone will tell you to get a larger filter but I've had great success with the cheapest smallest 4" filter I could find. My 6" fan is rated at 440 cfm and the filter at only 200 so as long as I slow my fan down by over 50% (don't know why I would run it any higher for a 4x4 tent) it works fine.

That carbon filter looks to be just slightly larger than mine, it should work well. Awesome speed controller - kinda want one of those myself.

yea speed controllers are badass, they reduce the sound big time as well as reduce the inward suckage tents get. are you using an intake fan to combat this?
when i didnt use an intake fan i got horrible circulation in my tent and got powdery mildew a few times.
